Berninzoni first landed on my radar from our PRZ combine events, and he has been a stud all season for Ponderosa. The CB/FS/returner has 48 total tackles on the year (31 solo, 17 assisted), 2 INT, and 7 PD. He has good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, good jumping, and change of direction. He has a good back pedal and jams up receivers at the line of scrimmage. During the route, he stays glued to the receiver in man coverage, and shows very good anticipation. Jumping in front of the WR to make the INT and get some good return yardage. He has good timing to create pass deflections and pass break ups. Very fluid hips to match the wideouts, and very good closing quickness. Berninzoni has good read and reaction speed and consistently watches the QB’s eyes to make the big play. Kid’s a dawg.

Berninzoni is a defensive back who thrives on his natural ball instincts. His ability to read through receivers to the quarterback’s eyes allows him to break on passes with precision, often disrupting routes or coming away with an interception. Berninzoni’s knack for playing physical at the line and disrupting timing makes him a formidable presence. His football intelligence and ability to anticipate plays make him a constant threat to opposing offenses. With a critical offseason ahead, Berninzoni will look to solidify his place on the radar and lock down a starting role for the upcoming season.

Berninzoni really caught my eye during the Stock Up Showcase. Measuring in at 5’11 150-pounds, the 2026 DB made a name for himself at the combine. Berninzoni was making plays all afternoon during the 1 on 1 drills. He has very good athletic ability due to very good jumping, acceleration, good speed and change of direction. Gavin showed his ability to stay physical throughout the route, without causing pass interference. He’d jam the receiver at the line of scrimmage, and stay stride for stride in man coverage. He’d swat the ball away, or pick it off. He got himself an interception. Berninzoni has a good back pedal, and keeps his eyes on where the ball is always. Very good ball tracking skills. A couple of times Gavin got beat, however he kept fighting resulting in an interception. He’s a scrappy corner who fights through the whistle. Great job from the Ponderosa corner!

. Berninzoni is a fantastic ball hawking safety who deserves more eyes on him. He plays as a deep safety, who will come into the box for run support. He measures in at 5’10 155 pounds. Gavin has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration, change of direction, and jumping. Berninzoni showcased good mental processing throughout this play in multiple ways. He shows it through being a patient tackler, diagnosing a route and jumping it for an easy interception, punching the ball out of the wide outs, or watching the QB’s eyes. Gavin has a high motor, and is consistently helping his teammates with tackles. He excels in zone coverage, locking down his zone. One thing that stands out to me his is his very good ball tracking and catching. The ball hawking safety was consistently tracking the ball with ease and plucking it out of the air before the WR could get a chance. He’d use his home run speed to occasionally bring it back to the house. I’m looking forward to seeing Berninzoni put together another stellar season.

Berninzoni is a DB that has good hands and when he gets the chance can come down with INTs. He has the ability to come up and make a tackle in the open field. He shows the ability to anticipate and make a play on the ball. He will be an under the radar guy to keep on the radar and will be looking for a chance to make an impact when his number is called.

Bernunzoni was a player that got better as the day went on and he began to get more comfortable as he got going. He showed good footwork in drill work and was smooth in his execution, planting his foot in the ground and exploding out to break on the ball. He is a young talent that has the ability to cover multiple positions on the field and can stay in the receivers hip pocket. He has good instincts and can play through the receivers hands, punching through and knocking the ball out. He will be one of the younger DB’s to keep an eye on.

Bernizoni caught my attention during the defensive individual drills where he displayed polished stance and start techniques. It quickly became evident that he puts time and effort into honing his skills as a free safety. He does a great job at staying disciplined with his eyes and breaking at the correct times. His ability to read the offense and flow well in coverage is built upon a solid foundation of pad level and hip flips.
During the three-on-three competition portion of the event, he continued to impress with how well he picked up threats on crossing routes. Bernizoni is a freshman from Legend who proved that he is on a path that leads him toward becoming a prospect that will make a name for himself in the state.
