Camdin committed to Miami in late October and will follow in the footsteps of his talented father, Clinton Portis, who starred at Miami as a running back before going on to have a great NFL career as well. Camdin excels in man coverage, being that lockdown corner that colleges and teams covet year in and year out. Camdin has great speed and excellent burst out of his breaks and turns and can play outside or in the slot. It will be fun to see how his career continues to progress this upcoming season at Myers Park.
While he’s probably an outside guy at the next level, Myers Park likes to use Portis in the slot to get him a bit closer to the action in the running game. He’s physical, not just against receivers, but also in run support. While he’s not the biggest guy, he has a lot of length and uses that to help him in pass coverage. The tackle numbers are there and the ball production will come as teams target him more over the course of the season.
The son of former NFL running back Clinton Portis, Camden was a strong defensive back prospect who moved to Myers Park HS this season from South Carolina. It was a no doubt decision to place him highly in this rankings update. Camden is a highly recruited player with offers from schools such as Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina. Camden has electric long speed, which is one of the traits that has him highly sought after. Also, Camdin has elite change of direction ability and breaks on the ball well in man coverage. His addition to the Mustangs secondary gives them one of the best overall defensive backfields in the state of North Carolina.
