Myers Park loses two standout edge rushers from last year’s team, allowing some younger guys an opportunity. Johnson is the rare exception to our general rule preventing players without ample varsity film from being ranked. Typically, players who end up ranked before game film tend to break out, and we’d expect Johnson to explode onto the scene once he cracks the rotation.

It’s easy to see Johnson’s upside, and there’s almost no doubt he’ll move up the rankings as he earns more varsity playing time. We actually made an exception for him with our typical “varsity film” rule in the rankings just based on how explosive and twitchy he is off the edge. Right now, he’s a bit on the leaner side, but with his frame, it won’t be difficult for him to add some good weight. If he ends up in the top 25, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
