after the La Salle Malvern Prep game. In that column, I spoke about how Kumpon’s drop on our ranks will be reverted, as his two-game tape was enough reminder of his special the young man can be on both sides of the ball. Since then, Colgate and Towson reached out to Kumpon and offered the LB/TE/DL scholarships. Just yesterday (at the time of writing), Ben Jumpon announced he’s shutting down his recruitment and committing to Towson University. A huge get for the program who offered within the same week.
I’m glad that FCS programs were equally impressed with Kumpon’s first three, I was worried he wouldn’t see the same traction, was worried he wouldn’t be able to build on the momentum established when he secured the Marist offer. Now, Kumpon’s recruitment is closed, huge congrats from us over at PRZ!

took a slight dip on our ranks solely because of slow recruiting contrary to the type of ceiling we thought Kumpon provided. What’s great to know, Kumpon doesn’t look to have lost a step. I’m more inclined to leave Kumpon among the Top 150 prospects in his class after seeing him move the way he did against LaSalle. Backer reps behind a star-studded defensive front, Kumpon was spotted flying around the field making stops against the run close and far from the initial snap of the ball. Backer reps are great, tack on tight-end reps fully displaying to potential collegiate suitors that Kumpon can both provide impact blocking in-line or split-out (crack blocks). Kumpon also caught two passes, linking up well with an improvising Melconian on each occasion. Kumpon had his hands on this game, clutch first downs, seal blocks in the run game, nearly ten tackles on the night. I’m happy to learn Kumpon is still a Division One caliber football prospect. Stock is back up.

Kumpon is rated as a tight end but I think he has the chance to play either side of the ball at the next level whether that be at tight end or at linebacker. His size probably allows him to project better as a linebacker notably at 6-foot-1. Kumpon is a good athlete overall who shows strong fundamental at both positions, the more I watch him, the more I probably like him at linebackert than at tight end. Qucik react-and-react skills at a linebacker. Quick to the balll and a very sound tackler, always wrapping up the ball carrier, acting much like a brick wall. Rarely does he allow a ballcarrier to pick up extra yards on his tackles. As a tight end, he’s a smooth route runner and presnts a nice target for his quarterbacks to hit. Strong and consistent hands.

Kumpon has a chance to develop into quite the tight end over the next few years. As a freshman at Malvern Prep, he showed quite an advanced understanding of the position. He’s got quality speed and looks to be a great athlete as well. Not to mention his 230 bench and 400+ pound deadlift as a freshman is quite an impressive feat in itself.
