We mentioned earlier in this breakdown how Mustang’s strength was going to be on the defensive side of the ball. Leading the front seven is senior Bear Meadows Bear Meadows 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Mustang | 2024 State OK at the linebacker position. Last season, the Broncos were led by Hudson Conrad at the linebacker position and Meadows has taken that spot as a prototypical middle linebacker that absolutely flies all over the field and when he shows up to the ball carrier, he usually has bad intentions. Coming into last week’s game with Edmond Santa Fe, Meadows had racked up 80 tackles and has been one of the top linebackers in Class 6A-1 this season. And after watching some of his film from the first half of the season, it’s hard not to be impressed with the way he hits in the open field.

In arguably the biggest game in 6A-1 this week, we’ll see #7 Mustang hitting the road to face #3 Owasso. The Rams are coming off a tough loss on the road against Union. For Mustang, a win here will keep their district title hopes alive. For Owasso, they can’t afford another district loss if they want to fight for the district crown or a bye week in the playoffs. We’ll go ahead and admit that we were wrong on Mustang prior to the season. We thought the Broncos would be rebuilding this season but they have just reloaded. The Broncos have a talented and young offense but they have key seniors on the defensive side of the ball. Leading the group is linebacker Bear Meadows Bear Meadows 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Mustang | 2024 State OK and he’ll be a big part of their game plan on Friday night. Owasso’s offense has been at their best when they’ve been able to air it out on that side of the ball. If Meadows and the Mustang front seven can get a good mix of pressure as well as coverage on the underneath stuff, they’ll be in a good spot. Meadows is one of the more underrated linebackers in the class.

Mustang 2024 linebacker Bear Meadows Bear Meadows 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Mustang | 2024 State OK is on our shortlist for breakout star heading into the season. We got a chance to watch Mustang back in the spring and Meadows was outstanding at the linebacker position. He was a tackling machine and we anticipate him to be in that role this season. Last year, the Broncos had an outstanding linebacker in Hudson Conrad and we think that Meadows could end up filling that hole in the defense and be one of the more productive linebackers in the state. He still has to go out and prove it but we like Meadows to have a big season. He’s your prototypical middle or inside linebacker that is excellent against the run and has the ability to move around and rack up the tackles and we think he’ll be one of the best in 6A-1.
