A QB who can step up and deliver in whatever way the game calls for is a rare find, and Smalls showed exactly that against Southern Nash. While he’s known for his arm, his performance as a runner—150 yards and 3 touchdowns—is a testament to his adaptability and competitive drive.

It speaks volumes that Smalls doesn’t care whether he’s throwing for 300 yards or running for 150—he just wants to get the win. That kind of mentality is exactly what you want from a leader, especially someone who’s already committed to a program like NC State. His ability to read the game and take advantage of what the defense gives him is a huge asset, and defenses can’t afford to key in on just one aspect of his game anymore.
