It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July and into August, we are publishing well over 100 in-depth team previews to get you completely ready for the 2023 football season. This is something that began in 2021 and has continued to get bigger every single year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champions, to top contenders and plenty of dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A, all the way down to the addition of 8-man coverage this year with Class B and C. In this post, we take a look at the Sand Springs Sandites.
Sand Springs Sandites
Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #5
Preseason Coaches Ranking: #6
The Sand Springs Sandites are entering year four under head coach Bobby Klinck and they are ready to take the next step in Class 6A-2. Last season, the Sandites would go 7-5 and lose to Choctaw in the quarterfinal round. The year before that they upset district champion Del City and made it to the semifinals. Coming into the 2023 season, the Sandites appear to have what it takes to potentially shake things up in a class that has become more wide open with the departure of Bixby to 6A-1. Last season, the class was headlined by Choctaw, Deer Creek, Muskogee and eventual champion Stillwater. This season, it appears that it’s going to be even more wide open with teams reloading to make a run at not only making it to the semifinals, but going all the way to Edmond. Standing in the way of Sand Springs of breaking down that door is one of the tougher districts in the state, regardless of class.
The Sandites are going to benefit from having seven starters back on the offensive side of the ball. The strength will be along their offensive line and in the backfield as the quarterback and running back return. But the quarterback is going to have to find some new weapons in the passing game as he lost several of his top receivers to graduation. The defensive side of the ball will be a work in progress throughout the season as they return five starters from last year’s team. To compete for the state championship, the Sandites are going to have to contend with all four of the teams that we already listed and that doesn’t include teams like Bartlesville, Booker T Washington and Tahlequah, who are all in Sand Springs’ district. The district race is going to be a fun one to watch unfold as there are going to be some close match-ups throughout the season. But watching the Sandites last season, it felt like they were building something with young but very talented players, especially on offense. They could surprise some teams this fall.

is the first of two 2026 prospects that Sand Springs can be very excited about moving forward. Webb has already committed to Oklahoma State for baseball but we think that he’s going to have some options by the time his high school career is over because he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the state’s 2026 class. Webb eventually took over the starting job at quarterback early on in the season last fall. And he definitely went through some predictable growing pains as a freshman playing against some tough competition. But Webb should take the next step this fall as he runs the Sandite offense. The biggest question surrounding Webb will be about his wide receivers as he loses his top three targets from last season.

was one of the best running backs in Class 6A-2 last season. He would run for nearly 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. We anticipate Page to take the next step and become one of the top backs in the state, regardless of class. As Webb continues to break in some new playmakers at the wide receiver position, Page is going to give the Sandite offense a reliable weapon at the running back position. Page has performed incredibly well every time we’ve seen him in person. Page continues to be one of the best backs in the state’s 2024 class and there’s a good chance that he sees his recruitment really take off this fall with another strong season in the Sand Springs backfield.

and he has already firmly established himself as one of the best prospects in the state’s 2026 class. He hadn’t even started his freshman year in high school and Kester had already established himself as one of the top guys along the offensive line for the Sandites late last spring and into the summer months. During his freshman season, Kester was dominant and he only continues to get better. We watched him in the spring a couple times and he was primarily lining up at left tackle and having plenty of success. He has a mean streak that is unmatched by defenders and he takes full advantage. He’s already being recruited by schools all over the country and he’s just scratching the surface.

2023 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 25 – Sapulpa
– The annual Highway 97 rivalry game is back on as the Sandites will welcome in Sapulpa in week zero. This has been a match-up that has been very friendly to the Sandites as they’ve won seven straight in the rivalry, including a 35-21 victory over Sapulpa last year. But this year’s match-up feels like it will be much more competitive as the Chieftains bring back a good amount of talent on the offensive side of the ball and are one of the top contenders on the east side in Class 5A. This match-up will set the tone for how the Sandites are going to look before taking a week off and then hosting powerhouse Bixby in week two.
Sept. 8 – Bixby
Sept. 15 – AT Ponca City
Sept. 22 – AT Muskogee
– The district opener is a big one as the Sandites will hit the road and take on preseason favorite Muskogee. The Roughers come into the 2023 season as the preseason number one team and if the Sandites can pull off a win here, despite it being week four, that’s going to have a massive impact on the playoffs. Muskogee beat Sand Springs 48-26 last season in a game where the Roughers did all of their scoring in the first and final quarters. The Sandites will look to avoid a slow start and keep up with the high-powered Muskogee offense this season.
Sept. 29 – Tahlequah
Oct. 5 – AT Stillwater
Oct. 13 – AT Putnam City West
Oct. 19 – Bartlesville
Oct. 27 – Booker T Washington
– A massive game late in the season takes place in week nine as the Sandites will host Booker T Washington. Just like last season, the top four teams in this district appear to be Booker T Washington, Muskogee, Sand Springs and Stillwater. If the Sandites can get a win or even go 2-1 in those match-ups, that is going to set them up for a strong playoff seed. The Sandites will host the Hornets and look to turn things around in this district rivalry. The Hornets have won seven straight against the Sandites but there have been some close match-ups during that stretch.
Nov. 3 – AT US Grant
Notable
It’s going to be interesting to see how the ADM numbers turn up when they are updated in August. Starting in 2024, the districts will be shuffled again and there’s a good chance that 6A-2 gets shaked up with new teams entering the class and the districts changing. Last season and even on paper going into the 2023 season, the east side district of 6A-2 feels completely loaded and top-heavy. Four teams in this district were in the top six of the rankings for the majority of last season. And unfortunately for Sand Springs, that means that the Sandites are in an absolutely loaded district. We mentioned this with a few of those district match-ups. Since 6A-1 and 6A-2 now have six teams from each district making the playoffs, qualifying has become easier. But the Sandites are going to be hungry to finish as high in the standings to possibly steal a first round bye or at the very least, have a home game in the first round.
