. A full time varsity starter since his freshman year, Smith’s numbers exploded in year two. Despite his reception total only increasing by 8 catches, his yards per catch jumped from 10.3 to 20, while also scoring 7 times. On defense, Smith accumulated 84 stops (36 solo), 1.5 TFLs, and 2 ints. This production led to offers from schools like Maryland, Michigan State, Duke, and several others. Perhaps this was the impetus for Smith’s tremendous offseason where he totally exploded, Hulking up his physique as noted while at the FDU Mega Camp.

has earned his first offer. After working out like for Coach Nunzio Campanile for an on-field session, the Minutemen’s 4.0 GPA prospect impressed his fellow Jersey guy so much that he offered him on the spot. This is the first, hopefully of many, offers to come Smith’s way. Having talked and personally gotten to know Smith since I met him at last year’s FDU Mega Footbal Camp, I am stoked for this young man who only does all the right things.

Nahjae Smith from Elizabeth stands out as a promising wide receiver in the 2027 class, showcasing several impressive attributes that make him a valuable asset on the field. One of the standout features of Smith is his ideal body type for a wide receiver, standing at 5’11” and 175 pounds with a well-proportioned frame.Smith demonstrates potential to become one of the best separators in his class, particularly from the slot position. He shows solid route running skills and uses his upper body effectively to create separation from defenders. His ability to change direction and transition smoothly adds to his effectiveness as a route runner.Additionally, Smith has the capability to get open deep, despite not being the fastest player on the field. His speed is sufficient to get behind the defense, and he excels at tracking the ball and finishing plays downfield with his impressive concentration and catching ability. While Smith is already a solid player in terms of yards after the catch, there is room for improvement in this aspect of his game as his role continues to grow on the team. Overall, there is a lot to like about Smith’s potential, and it will be exciting to see how he progresses in his role as both an outside and slot receiver.

has left me impressed with is upside. As much as you can tell on film, Smith profiles as a “team player.” He gladly will give up his body in order to make a play break for a teammate, has a penchant for falling forward, astutely breaks off his route when the defense dictates he should, and acts as if he is a football sage in the 2-minute drill as he finds the sticks and gets down to stop the clock. However, as selfless as he is Smith is able to create for himself in the screen game as he easily evades linemen. At his best, we see Smith spin and never break stride on deep balls, extend and high point the ball, and catch with his hands. Already explosive, Smith’s ascension will continue has he continues tirelessly to improve his speed – which I am certain he will.

. Debuting as a freshman last fall Smith was 1/1 for 59 yards as a passer, 6/21/1 as a rusher, 26/268/1 as a receiver, and made 17 tackles (6 solos), with 1 TFL from the secondary.
For as young as he is, Smith showcased a strong lower half that keeps him balanced when possessing the ball and break poor tackles. The young buck is also unabashed in the face of pressure, delivering for his teammates and taking a big hit on the trick pass play he connected on. When in a groove, Smith can make linemen miss as the recipient of a middle screen and also can create for himself when his fellow receivers along the perimeter block poorly in the quick screen game. Relatedly, Smith fights hard to get upfield and gain every extra yard – grinding, working, lunging, and scrapping to do so in the process. On the other side of the same token, as a freshman Smith shows that he possesses situational awareness, dropping to the ground to kill the clock after he secures a first down in the 2-minute drill. He achieves top speed quickly, high points the ball, catches with his hands, makes the correct reads in scramble drills and – most impressively – adjusts to under thrown balls by turning, catching in rhythm, and accruing YAC. One area for Smith to improve on are his breaks. Marking sharper cuts when he breaks the stem of his route will lead to more separation and more easy yards. Oh, one final thing I forgot to mention that Smith does right: hit the books, as the youngster has maintained an approximate 4.4 GPA thus far.

is ready to to step into a bigger role come the 2024 season. Accumulating 268 receiving yards and a rushing and receiving touchdown, Nahjae is a pass catcher with a huge catch radius and natural ability to outjump the defender for the ball. He displays exceptional explosiveness as he leaps off of one foot to get elevated above his opponent. However, Nahjae’s biggest impact on the field may be as a ball carrier. With elite foot work and vision with the ball in his hands, Nahjae is the type of receiver you want to get the ball to quickly so he can use his agility to carve through defenses.

. Scoring 1 touchdown and catching for 268 yards in 2023, Nahjee has the potential to be a lethal deep ball threat. He can really turn on the burners and leave the defender in the dusk any time he is deep downfield. Equipped with great size already, Nahjee will be boxing out defenders in the near future to make those pivotal catches in the corner of the end zone.

Perhaps there is a youth movement going on in the Garden State right now because the class of 2027 is ripe with talent. Smith, who was one of the event’s top middle school combine performers with an explosive 106″ broad jump, caught my eye when he competed as well. Smith is an absolute warrior. I exchanged a few words with him, and as an 8th grader at the time he took it upon himself to compete on the game field with high school juniors and seniors. In other words, Smith opted to challenge himself against players who have had at least three off seasons of strength & conditioning and a varying number of varsity reps; where as in contrast Smith has not had any of either. In pass coverage he jostled and jockeyed for position all throughout the route’s progression. Smith also did a nice job recovering and playing the ball when it was up for grabs.
