Top Attribute: Decptive
Phillipsburg may not necessarily be known to be a receiver factory, but Matthew Scerbo Matthew Scerbo 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Phillipsburg | 2025 State NJ looks to change that narrative for years to come. Deceptive is the word for Scerbo. Everything from his routes, speed, and double moves screams “do not sleep on me.” His fakes, in particular, are what make defenders shake loose from him. He also does a great job deceiving defenders who are in their head by playing off of crack blocks.

For some time now I have been belling you about Matthew Scerbo Matthew Scerbo 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Phillipsburg | 2025 State NJ , a recent Sacred Heart commit. Outstanding when selling double moves (which is something he does often), Scerbo uses his head to sell the fake. More of a strider, he gains a lot of ground with each step he takes. High pointing the ball and using his hands are two things he is also exceptional at. Scerbo has good vision with the ball in his hands and sells crack blocks well, only to release and get open.

Another player I have covered extensively from Phillipsburg, Matthew Scerbo Matthew Scerbo 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Phillipsburg | 2025 State NJ is now one of the most recognized players on the roster. Already receiving offers from Sacred Heart, Lehigh, Colgate, and Lafayette, Matthew is on a path towards another four years of excellence. Matthew has proven over his high school career that he is a legitimate talent that every opponent needs to be concerned about. This is the type of receiver that a QB can be confident in, as he has a good shot of coming down with the ball anytime it is thrown his direction. Ranked as the #11 receiver in the 2025 NJ class, there are few that play the position as well as Matthew does.
What separates Matthew from the rest of the receivers in the state is the combination of speed and size that Matthew is equipped with. Matthew can take off downfield with a fast start out of his stance and use his height and length to outcompete the defender for the ball. Matthew shows excellent body awareness as he can tip toe down the sideline and contort his body in air to put himself in position to come down with it. There are two situations in which Matthew will terrorize defenses in 2024. The first is when he takes off down field for a deep route, and the second will be in the back of the end zone. Either way, defenses are not slowing Matt down in 2024.

Matthew Scerbo from Phillipsburg, is a two-sport athlete excelling in both basketball and football. His standout abilities in both sports underscore the advantages of being a multi-sport athlete, particularly in transferring skills to the football field.Standing at 6’2” and weighing 180 pounds, Matthew is a polished wide receiver who can line up in the slot or outside. One of his standout traits is his ability to get downfield and use his frame to stack defenders, consistently putting himself in an advantageous position to win down the field. Additionally, he possesses surprising agility and shiftiness for his size, making him adept at getting open. While he continues to develop the elite suddenness required to be a top-tier receiver, his work ethic and dedication to his craft are evident.Matthew’s hands are particularly impressive. He is a natural hands catcher, capable of making catches in traffic and with defenders draped over him. His performance at the PSR Combine caught my attention, prompting a closer look at his game tape, which confirmed his abilities.Currently holding offers from Colgate, Lehigh, and Lafayette, Matthew’s senior year could see him earn Power Five scholarships. His ability to win in multiple ways as a receiver makes him a compelling prospect and one to watch closely as he continues to develop.

- Sells double moves with head and route fakes very well; seems to perform them often
- Deceptive route runner because of his fakes, not necessarily their precision or crispness
- Strides when he runs, seems to gain a lot of ground with each step he takes
- Catches with hands, high points the ball
- Sells crack blocks hard, only to release into a pattern
- Want to see him come back to/attack the ball – the ball is in a good place when it is in his hands
