Nate Wahl | Prep Redzone Scout
Got a chance to watch Cooper last summer during a 7v7 tournament outside of Sioux Falls and was highly impressed as we await his freshmen tape to come out. I loved watching this kid explode with his route-running and showing off competitive hands in my evaluation last summer. At 5’11, I thought he played way bigger than what I saw and not just on offense, but both sides of the ball as there was plenty of length for Cooper to grow out of his frame over the next-3-4 years in the weight room. Head Prep Redzone Dakota Scout, Nate Wahl: Cooper, in my eyes looks like the best athlete I saw out of South Dakota’s upcoming 2027 class, not just from passing the eye test on Sunday, but from the skillsets he showed off in his plethora at Battle of the Borders. He struck a chord for me most with his route-running ability as he was extremely efficient with his routes and got ample separation with the length from the bottom to the top of his body he showed off en-route. He also demonstrated excellent hands in my eyes for his age. The best fit for Cooper positionally certainly stood out at wide receiver, however he also made some key plays for the Midwest Miners in their secondary showing how well he was able to utilize his size in pass coverage as a safety looks like his best fit defensively. I said it on Sunday, Cooper is likely one of South Dakota’s best athletes I have seen this spring out of this upcoming freshmen class out of Tri-Valley. He is certainly a prospect I will be watching heavily over the coming years.
Prep Redzone Next National Scouting Director, AL Pops: Absolutely looks the part in terms of build, length and demeanor. Admittedly, I don’t see a lot of upper Midwest football but when Nate Wahl texts or calls me on a weekend excited about a kid, I make it a priority to look into it. Nate’s assessment above is spot on and I agree with him being a matchup nightmare over the next four years of high school football in the Dakota’s. I would be very interested to see testing numbers on him to see actual size/speed.
