Ashton Jones Ashton Jones 6'2" | DL St. Xavier | 2024 State KY is a defensive lineman that took a huge jump in our recent rankings update. Jones had a strong junior year, finishing with 35 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four sacks. He lines up in the interior at defensive tackle where he is a very impressive pass rusher. Jones has the speed to burst into the pocket before opposing offensive linemen can react and also has some impressive pass rush moves that he uses to defeat blocks. He is also reliable against the run, showing the ability to read the play and fight through blocks to get to the ball carrier quickly to make tackles in the open field. Ashton currently holds offers from Navy, Austin Peay, Wofford, Bucknell, Ball State, Columbia, Army, Lehigh, Forham, Southeast Missouri State, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania, and UAB, and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at the Division I level.

Jones is coming off  a strong junior season in which he finished with 35 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four sacks. He is an athletic defensive tackle that is very impressive as a pass rusher. Jones explodes out of his stance and uses his speed to shoot into the backfield before opposing offensive linemen have a chance to react. He also has an impressive variety of pass rush moves to defeat blocks quickly. Against the run, Jones has shown the ability to read the play quickly and fight through blocks to get to the ball. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Jones is a very reliable open field tackler. Ashton currently holds offers from Ball State, Columbia, Army, Lehigh, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania, Fordham, Southeast Missouri State, and UAB, and I expect that list to continue to grow as he is a Division I caliber defensive lineman.

Jones is a highly productive back who’s shown that he can carry the load. Shows solid knee bend and a low pad level. Runs with patience and shows impressive burst when a hole opens. Has clean footwork behind the line of scrimmage and shows impressive suddenness to make defenders miss when he gets into space. Works well in congestion. Shows some ability to pinball off of contact and pick up additional yardage. Runs with determination and strong leg drive, doing a better job of pushing the pile than anticipated.
