Jer’Rick showed up as a dependable and polished receiver at the Battle of the Regions, consistently showcasing strong, reliable hands and the ability to secure catches cleanly through contact. His route running stood out as disciplined and efficient, creating separation without wasted motion and giving his quarterbacks a trustworthy target on timing concepts. After the catch, Irvin demonstrated an impressive ability to shift into another gear, accelerating quickly and turning short gains into chunk plays. Overall, he looked like a well-rounded wideout who combines solid technique with playmaking upside.

Perhaps it’s a no-brainer to say, but the best teams typically have the best players at key positions — and that was the case with Region 2. The (now) back-to-back KYMSFA BOTR champs picked up a 16-0 win over an upset-minded Region 1 in the opening game before a gutsy 26-24 victory over Region 4 in the championship game.

Prior to this year’s BOTR tournament, I nicknamed Jer’Rick Irvin Jer’Rick Irvin 5'8" | 135 lbs | ATH/WR St. Xavier | 2030 KY Mr. BOTR due to his memorable MVP performance in the 2025 tournament. Well, he did it again in 2026. In the opening game he was on the receiving end of TD passes from both of Region 2’s Quarterbacks. He added a third touchdown on the weekend in the championship game on a kick return. He was dynamic.

If MLB has Reggie Jackson as Mr. October, and the NHL has Gordie Howe as Mr. Hockey, the KYMSFA has Jer’Rick Irvin Jer’Rick Irvin 5'8" | 135 lbs | ATH/WR St. Xavier | 2030 KY as Mr. Battle of the Regions. In last year’s opening game victory over Region 4 Irvin had a pair of TD receptions, highlighted by his game-winning TD reception as the clock hit 0:00. He’s going to be a special player.

Irvin had an uncharacteristically quiet afternoon offensively, other than being targeted on back-to-back plays by Brody Shannon Brody Shannon 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Paducah Tilghman | 2030 KY (listed above) late in the fourth quarter on what appeared to be the same play. Irvin brought in the second of the two attempts, an 11-yard third-down reception, and showed great balance as he was nearly brought down, but managed to stay up.

As of this write-up (6/9/2025), based off film and what I’ve seen in person, if I had to pick a potential No.1 WR for this 7th Grade Kentucky Future Stars — Irvin would have my vote. He’s a playmaker that can line up as a Running Back or Wide Receiver right now and find immediate success. At the KYMSFA Battle of the Regions in March 2025, he was named MVP of the championship-winning Region 2 squad.
