Hughley had one of these performances last week when Opelika (7-1) faced off against Enterprise (4-3) in a 30-13 win- all throughout the game he made a bunch of crucial runs to move the chains and helped put this game away. Hughley is a really well-rounded and talented back that plays with a lot of physicality and finesse. Hughley has terrific contact balance, isn’t afraid of taking hits, and has the speed and quickness to make defenders miss at every level of the field. It’s been really impressive watching Hughley play this season- he’s been a work horse of this offense and consistently creates explosive runs out of the backfield each week. Opening up the season against Benjamin Russell, Hughley was more than ready to show the fans what makes him so special. Hughley has the ability to stop on a dime and make cat-like cuts that leave defenders grasping at air. He also features great acceleration once he sees an opening and excellent top-end speed. Hughley was key in Opelika’s 28-14 win over the Wildcats Friday night. The senior rushed for 156 yards on 14 carries and a couple of touchdowns as the Bulldogs got the season underway with an impressive road win.

Hughley has established himself as one of the best backs in the state with how well he’s played and produced for Opelika the last few seasons. Hughley is a really well-rounded and talented back who plays with a lot of physicality and elusiveness. On tape, he shows that he has some terrific contact balance, isn’t afraid of taking hits, and has the speed and ability to make defenders miss- making him a tough-to-stop prospect when the ball is in his hands. It’s super impressive watching him play when you consider his workload in Opelika’s offense- he frequently has games where he carries the ball at a high rate and never shows any signs of slowing down. Last fall was one of Hughley’s best seasons yet, he frequently was an impact player and consistently wore down defenses all season long. This week, Hughley made a big decision in his recruitment and committed to Arkansas State! He is on the smaller side at 5’8 190, but he is built from the ground up and runs with good balance through contact. He can stop on a dime, allowing him to get north on outside zone plays and quickly bounce the ball outside when searching for grass. His acceleration is impressive, allowing him to slow-play while blocks develop and eventually take off. He doesn’t waste any movement in the open field, staying on course to the endzone until he has to drop his shoulder and take on contact. Hughley is a bowling ball back and would perform well in a zone running scheme, where he can utilize his vision.
