About Jamel
Expert Analysis
Connor Jackson | Prep Redzone Scout
Griffin capped off his productive junior season with a buzzy offseason up to this point, and that buzz should continue to build once spring ball and camp season rolls back around. Griffin is a versatile player in the second level who could probably handle a few different spots in the secondary. Tall, skinny prospect with a lot of space to add mass. He can be trusted to carry routes and has the desired foot speed to match routes, but he flies like a rocket to the football and will go for violent contact, so a future home as an S might make the most sense. A violent, energetic defender with plenty of upside.

Jamel Griffin is a talented FS/DB from Opelika who’s seen his recruitment take off this offseason.
“Griffin is a versatile safety who can defend the run and pass at a really high level. I’m super impressed with Griffin’s skills in coverage. He’s quick on his feet, has excellent ball skills and timing, and frequently breaks underneath passes to force PBUs and INTs.
I’m most impressed with Griffin’s instincts, IQ, and sideline-to-sideline speed. He flies around the field every snap to create stops, regardless of how far away from the action he is. It’s seriously impressive to watch; he’s a defender you have to pay attention to every single snap. Opelika’s secondary will be a must-watch unit this fall.”
Griffin’s recruitment has been on fire this month, picking up offers from Kentucky, UT Martin, Utah State, and many more.
I’m seriously impressed with the season Griffin had last fall. He’s a talented DB who flies around the field to create highlight plays every snap, see for yourself below:
