On Monday, we updated our 2024 rankings and released the Top 50. We saw plenty of new names in the rankings and plenty of prospects who soared up the rankings as stock risers. Check out the complete 2024 Top 50 Rankings RIGHT HERE. For now, let’s take a look at the quarterback position and specifically three quarterback prospects who were ranked high in the recent update but are still waiting for their turn on the field. Some are waiting behind the best quarterbacks in the state and the other is waiting for his opportunity to get on the field for his new team. Let’s take a look at three QB’s who appear to be the next big names at the position.
[player_tooltip player_id="215199" first="Clayton" last="Creasey"] - Jones
Well it appears that Jones is going to go from one great quarterback to another one next year. Right now, the Longhorns are led by [player_tooltip player_id="38671" first="Carson" last="May"], the top quarterback prospect in the state’s 2022 class and is a top ten overall prospect. The Iowa commit will finish up his time with Jones this fall and then it’ll be time for [player_tooltip player_id="215199" first="Clayton" last="Creasey"] to step into that role. We shouldn’t be surprised at this point that Jones has another quarterback waiting to take over the Longhorn offense. The Longhorns have had a decent run of quarterbacks in the last decade and Creasey could be the next guy up. We got a chance to see Creasey during the spring at a team camp. It was apparent that the Longhorns wouldn’t experience any kind of drop off at the quarterback position when May graduates. Think about that for a moment as the Longhorns will be replacing one of the best quarterback recruits in the last few years and they might not experience much of a drop off. Creasey doesn’t have the physical size that May has right now but he still has time.
[player_tooltip player_id="110745" first="Knox" last="Dyson"] - Union
[player_tooltip player_id="110745" first="Knox" last="Dyson"] is one of the top quarterbacks in the state’s 2024 class and has been considered that since he stepped into high school. Dyson spent last year at Owasso and then transferred to Union during the offseason. We got a good chance to see Dyson throughout the offseason when he participated in 7v7 tournaments and he certainly passed the eye test. Dyson looks the part physically and can throw the ball all over the field. Now, Dyson is at Union and waiting for his opportunity to make a name for himself across the state. Dyson is currently serving as a back up in a Union offense that is certainly a run-first offense with running backs [player_tooltip player_id="67771" first="Antonio" last="Smith"] Jr and [player_tooltip player_id="38703" first="Rovaughn" last="Banks"]. Now, next year, Union might shift things around and look different on offense with the passing game as they have several wide receivers that are also featured in the top 50 for 2024 prospects with [player_tooltip player_id="110754" first="Brendon" last="McQueen"] and [player_tooltip player_id="110747" first="Jino" last="Boyd"]. Union is in the middle of contending for a state title behind a strong running game but moving forward, potentially with Dyson under center and two playmakers at receiver, we expect Union to throw the ball a little more.
[player_tooltip player_id="127357" first="Luke" last="Milligan"] - Lincoln Christian
A lot of what we wrote about Creasey and the Jones football program can be repeated right here with Lincoln Christian. The Bulldog football program seems to always have one of the best quarterbacks in the state. This year is no different and next year they probably won’t take a step back. This year, Central Michigan commit [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] is not only one of the top quarterbacks in the state, but he’s one of the top overall players in the state. He’s put up monster numbers in the passing and running game. Lincoln Christian will once again have one of the better quarterbacks in the state next year as [player_tooltip player_id="127357" first="Luke" last="Milligan"] will take over for Brown. And he’s gotten plenty of reps this year as Lincoln Christian has absolutely blown out the majority of their opponents. He’s thrown passes in six of Lincoln’s seven games and has a few touchdown passes already. We saw Milligan this offseason and he definitely passed the eye test. Then we got a chance to see Milligan this fall taking some reps as Lincoln had the game in hand and he once again looked the part and the Bulldogs are going to have one of the top passers in the state. Milligan’s game is different from Brown and he’s definitely more of a pocket passer. Lincoln will once again have one of the best passing offenses in the state moving forward.
