There is a big advantage to defensive backfields when you have a safety like [player_tooltip player_id='909369' first='Colton' last='Romanoff'] playing back there. Romanoff is a safety that moves well in all directions and is athletic enough to play some corner as well. Aside from moving well, he also runs well as he stays in stride with his matchups with ease. In run support, we see him scrap, fight, and claw in order to maintain his run fit. A physical player with his hands, Romanoff matches those of his assignment and does a great job defending the pass when doing so.

If you are quarterbacking Jefferson now a days, you ought to be able to sling the rock just a bit. [player_tooltip player_id='1454050' first='Connor' last='Consiglio'] has no issue doing exactly this, especially when things break down. Under durress and flushed out of the pocket, Consiglio keeps his eyes down field and has shown an uncanny knack for being comfortable in such situations. A lot of the time, it may appear that Consiglio is running for his life, but he does a masterful job of evading pressure and moving around to actually buy his receivers time. Once the ball is released, Consiglio's intended targets have just enough space to gain a few additional yards after the catch. Touch is also a part of Consiglio's throws, as we see him get loft on daring throws, such as over a deep middle linebacker's head, just in front of split safeties in a Tampa 2 look.

An interesting two-way prospect out of Haddonfield is [player_tooltip player_id='1551134' first='Dan' last='Keenan']. Despite being effective at both positions, by my judgement, Keenan is likely a better linebacker than quarterback. I think Keenan does an outstanding job of reading holes and hitting holes - getting down hill in a hurry. On perimeter plays, he is a tough out on a footrace to the sideline as well. The ability to read his keys well is also something Keenan excels at. He uses his hands well when apexing in space, fighting blocking receivers with authority for him to get in on a piece of the action. Keenan takes solid angles and tackles with appropriate leverage.

A quarterback that, frankly, I was pleasantly surprised by their film is [player_tooltip player_id='1300160' first='Daniel' last='Lewis'] of Orange. Lewis can get the ball downfield up to 50 yards with his very raw, unrefined mechanics, relying on his shoulder alone. As though he was playing dodgeball, he has the presence of mind to duck and run when trouble closes in, showing his elusiveness in the pocket. After that, we see his natural ability as a play extender, stepping up and side stepping defenders with ease. A "we before me" type of player, Lewis will take a big hit to deliver the ball he wants to, and also tends to lead his receivers well on verticals so then can run under the ball without breaking strides.

A prospect that had a breakthrough, multi-sack game last week was Rancocas Valley's [player_tooltip player_id='1533565' first='David' last='Ogunsola']. Ogunsola has a good, quick get off and that twitchy burst of closing speed you hope to see all defenders possess. At moments, however, his get off is dangerously explosive. In those moments you see him work hands into-and-up-into his matchup, particularly on down blocks, which allows Ogunsola to have superior leverage over his opponent. Ogunsola also changes direction well, specifically when having to redirect on line stunts - also at the same time showing his quickness.

Now if I had to guess, [player_tooltip player_id='1530233' first='Donte' last='Shuler'] of Irvington might just be related to another Shuler who was formerly of Irvington, but is now rostered by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With, apparently, strong bloodlines, the younger Shuler is a linebacker who faithfully takes his read steps. Moreover, his athleticism is on display in how he elevates to high point and catch the ball using his hands. Unafraid to win in large spaces, he aggressively fills wide open gaps, wraps well, and uses the full force of his power and momentum to make tackles. This technique and power makes him a sure-bet tackler. His ability to make good breaks allows him to change direction with ease. On tape you never really see Shuler beat or out of position and plays solid team defense; however, this makes it a bit difficult for me to judge his speed. I do, however, just think he is a naturally gifted athlete based on what my eyes tell me.
