American Fork and Orem 7v7

This past Saturday, May 3, 2025, Coach Behm and Coach Manu invited me. American Fork hosted Orem and Maple Mountain. It was a 7's with varsity and junior varsity squads, with American Fork having its Sophomore squad as well. We got a good look at some high-level players and some new potential playmakers for the upcoming season. Let's dig in. Matsen was the star of the day and made elite-level throws all day long during the 7's session. He showcases quick processing, elite arm talent, pinpoint precision, and he knows when to take off his velocity when needed. He stressed defenses with deep shots all day, and the ball jumps out of his hands. It was an exceptional showing, and he'll be a nationwide recruit and a top-five quarterback nationally if he continues his trajectory. Elite upside with substantial talent. Ka'awa has put on great size during the offseason and his arm talent was on display this afternoon. Ka'awa was quick to get through his reads and his throws were crisp and had good accuracy and velocity. It was a good session where he showcased his howitzer of an arm. Childs has good size and showcased a good arm with multiple throws throughout the session. He had good ball placement and was decisive with where he wanted to throw. Childs had a good command of the offense and pushed it downfield. His arm and prototypical size makes him an interesting prospect Manuela made some good throws during the session and moved the offense along, but his main asset will be his legs. In 7s, you get to see more of his throws, and he continues to get more and more accurate. He has command of the offense, and his legs will add intrigue under the Friday Night lights. He's a dual threat specialist and it was nice to see him in a setting where he tested his arm. Wesley has been active this offseason with official visits and baseball but he was a particapant and has a large catch radius and moves well. He continues to be a mismatch and a weapon as he can be detached from the line and is too athletic for most linebackers and too big for most safeties. During the 7's he ha a route where he got separation from his defender and was wide open down the field. Wesley is set up for a fantastic season and should be a mismatch in nearly every situation. Coy is an athletic mover and has exceptional size. He showcased good ball tracking skills and made good adjustments on the ball. He has a large catch radius and made an impressive showing. Coy is an X-Receiver who will do well playing above the rim on key plays where the offense can take advantage of his length and catch radius. Wesley had a great showing and moves well for his size. He lined up in the slot and out wide during the 7's and was a mismatch due to his skillset. He's going to develop into a chess piece and I prefer him as a move tight end. A few reasons for that, his frame is already quite big and he's continuing to grow and get bigger, he can be a mismatch against linebackers as he's too quick and athletic for them, and too tall and strong for safeties. He projects as a high ceiling player with Power-Four tools and traits, he will be recruited as such. Dean was exceptional during the 7's session with the varsity team and routinely created separation and got open for big plays including a touchdown where he showcased his speed to get by his corner. He's set up for a big year and is a big target for his Quarterback and that frame should allow him to win most jump balls. Wilkinson is an excellent, twitchy mover who should play a role in the slot for the upcoming season. He got open several times and made the most of his opportunities. Richards has good size and moves well. Made a couple of nice plays during the afternoon. It was a great afternoon getting to scope out a couple of good teams and skilled players.
