Our monthly scouting notebooks on each area/league of New York are meant to spotlight some of the guys who are amongst the top performers each month. Some are based on film evaluation and live scouting at games, and some are based on statistical performance. It will be clearly indicated if the film has been evaluated, players have been live scouted, or they have had a statistical month worth noting based on their expectation, and those players I have flagged in my database to get some film evaluated as soon as it is available. Players performing at expectation will not often be featured in these monthly breakdowns. Players performing above expectations or playing strong football after not being involved on the varsity teams or starting lineups will do well. Also, this article is rooted in each player's potential and ability as a college prospect from the Division One to the Division Three level, and film/performance will be analyzed with that top of mind.

NYCHSFL Player Of The Month

The Player of the Month is given to the prospect who has made strong steps in a positive direction as a college prospect through his performance; it is not given to a player who had the best statistical performance or impact throughout the month.

[player_tooltip player_id='1001144' first='Crew' last='Davis'] put some quality reps on film last season as his first season on varsity as a sophomore, and so far this season, Davis has been expanded on the all-around threat from the backfield he was last year.

Davis is one of the most versatile offensive players in New York. His ability to line up at WR and RB and consistently produce from those positions sets him apart from the other athletes in New York. He has a great frame at 6' 205, where he can play all three downs.

Through the first few games of the season, there has been a notable difference in his explosiveness, jump cuts, and acceleration. This season he is showing he can turn the corner quicker and is able to outrun angles that defenders may have gotten him with in the past. He is a very developed pass catcher out of the backfield who can run a route tree from the slot or impact the game on third down as a check-down option. Perhaps the best part about Davis this season is how he continues showcasing a physical running style. He consistently falls forward, using his shoulder to deliver contact, not brace for it.

Also, a standout midfield lacrosse player for Iona Prep who could end up playing either sport at the next level.

NYCHSFL AAA

Archbishop Stepinac

2025 WR [player_tooltip player_id='505387' first='Zaire' last='Spellman'] - Though it has been a rough start against a crazy four-week gauntlet of opponents, Spellman has had a strong start to the season as the focal point of the Stepinac offense. A few high-quality catches and the ability to make plays in space have been the highlight of his start.

Cardinal Hayes

2025 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='820131' first='Ken-G' last='Burnham'] - Burnham takes a big step up in his role and has answered the call for Cardinal Hayes - one of the more impressive WR prospects I have seen live this year. He took a screen pass 60 yards for a TD against Erasmus Hall, in which his explosiveness was on display; he also made a tough catch on that screen on a pass well outside of his body. I like what Burnham has done so far this year.

2025 SAF [player_tooltip player_id='1506307' first='Bodhi' last='Sabongui'] - Sabongui, who comes from Stuyvesant in the PSAL, is now the starting safety for Cardinal Hayes, and he has great measurables for the position at 6'2 185 but showed against Erasmus Hall good athleticism and consistent tackling ability. I like the size here, and he moves well and keeps part of the Hayes defense this season.

2025 OLB [player_tooltip player_id='1506308' first='Isiah' last='Thomas'] - Thomas is not a full-time started as an EDGE/OLB, considering how much talent Hayes has at the position, but he has a great-looking frame at a very well-built 6'3 215 and was an impactful player on special teams for Hayes.

2025 OLB [player_tooltip player_id='1506309' first='William' last='Thomas'] - Thomas was good against Erasmus Hall as a defensive end. He held the edge well with strength and shed blocks well. He also has the athleticism to collapse and make plays from behind when they go the other way. Impressive looking size and body at 6'3, 220+

Chaminade

2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1068356' first='Dean' last='Schmitt'] - Schmitt has been the heart of the Chaminade defense so far, making plays - I really like how versatile his skillset is. He is a impressive pass rusher, changing his tempo and pad level to avoid the hands of offensive linemen, and he has the burst to close on the quarterback. In coverage, he has put some solid stuff on film so far. Definitely a better zone cover guy where he shows on tape a good feel for his responsibilities and is able to process the routes in front of him and what the quarterback may do. The production is there - two defensive touchdowns and a game-winning forced fumble so far.

2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1506310' first='Louis' last='D'Agostino Jr'] - No film on D'Agostino yet, but for the stats that teams have input, he seems to be the CHSFL leader in sacks with 8. He has football genes, as his Dad was captain at Rhode Island and spent a year in the NFL. I'm interested to see some film when it comes out because the Chaminade defense has been really good through the first few weeks of the season.

Iona Prep

2026 QB [player_tooltip player_id='735876' first='Julian' last='Guzman'] - Guzman has had a really solid start to the season; the Maryland baseball commit has had to play some really tough opponents and, coming in with no starting experience, has handled himself well showing off the dual-threat ability and has protected the ball well so far.

Kellenberg

2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='735860' first='Nicholas' last='Kramer'] - Kramer is a guy who is just a football player - the type of player where you can forget about the measurables and a player who will consistently make plays in any phase of the game. Offensively, he has good FB tape so far, is physical, and is willing to block guys bigger than him. Defensively, he plays an OLB/Nickel role as a physical tackler. Special teams he has made several plays on kickoff and while LBs don't often get a lot of coverage reps he has some solid stuff on tape against Pope John.

2025 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='735863' first='Donovan' last='O'Toole'] - One of the most dangerous return men in New York - committed to Palm Beach Atlantic for Lacrosse is a guy who will stick on that Lacrosse path, but there are some intriguing traits on the football field. Elite quickness and twitch and shows some long speed on tape. A similar type of player to former DII All-American and current NFL return man Deonte Harty.

Monsignor Farrell

2025 RB [player_tooltip player_id='805689' first='Nafis' last='Muhammad'] - Muhammad is a well-built back and listed on the most recent Monsignor Farrell roster at 185 - physically defined body, and he has been one of the few dominant workhorse backs in New York this season. Muhammad runs tough and displays great contact balance on tape this year. He sometimes shows some burst and explosive movements on tape, but I was impressed with his patience and vision when I saw Farrell live this season.

2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='805692' first='Gerard' last='Sheehan'] - Sheehan is the main guy on the Monsignor Farrell defense, and there was more to his game than what was on the field. Through the 14 games I have been to so far, he stood out visibly as a leader both on the field and the sideline. He plays with a great motor on the field, is always involved around the ball, and does a solid job attacking blockers and shedding. The best ability for Sheehan is coming downhill, and he is one of the more consistent blitzing linebackers I have seen live this season.

2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1506670' first='Alex' last='Ustun'] - On a team with some intriguing WR prospects, Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1506670' first='Alex' last='Ustun'] has stood out to me, a name I learned about when seeing Farrell play. Ustun was reliable in week one and has been Farrell's go-to guy since. Individual games are posted on his HUDL, and you seen how well he tracks the ball down the field. Additionally, he shows on tape he can be a hand catcher in tight windows and against tight coverage. So far, he has also shown a solid variety of routes on tape.

St. Anthony's

2025 WR [player_tooltip player_id='612739' first='Will' last='Hart'] - Hart has been excellent through the start of the season for St. Anthony's - he missed all last season, which was his first season with St. Anthony's after making the move from Shoreham-Wading River. With the offensive backfield and running the ball being the focal point of St. Anthony's offense, Hart has become a really nice compliment in the passing game. A well-built body at 5'11 and a filled-out 195 with really solid weight room numbers, Hart is quick and physical when he has the ball in his hands. As a receiver, he has soft hands and shows on tape he has an impressive catch radius for a WR at 5'11. He is the type of athlete who can be used more than just from the slot and has had a strong start to the season after extended time off.

2026 SAF [player_tooltip player_id='1208765' first='Kevin' last='Moore'] - Some guys have the luxury of looking the part, and Moore is certainly one of those types of athletes; he gives you a little flash of what we saw when Ian Strong, Jayden Platt, and Kenyon Miles manned the St. Anthony's backfield. Moore, at 6'1 195 as a Junior, plays primarily safety for St. Anthony's and was exceptional when I saw them play UPrep and one of upstate top passing attacks. Moore is a consistent tackler and his length helps him wrap up in open field while he also flashes some ball tracking and ball skills in coverage. You don't see him in a ton of man coverage situations, but his overall measurables, movement, and the production he has had so far have been impressive.

AISAA

Long Island Lutheran

2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='473976' first='Jacob' last='Butler'] - This is a situation where I already knew Butler was a very good college prospect, hence why he is in the Top 5 and already is sporting a lot of offers. Still, the WR for Long Island Lutheran, who also stars as a sprinter on the track team, has been exceptional to start the season. 599 all-purpose yards through 3 games, averaging 199.7 YPG compared to last season's 93.1 YPG. The film is great also; he is really fast, and the speed you see on tape is verified on the track, making his speed legitimate. He is really good in space due to his twitchiness as an athlete and does a great job of using hesitation and tempo in his route running.

2026 QB [player_tooltip player_id='839182' first='Peyton' last='Robinson'] - Robinson made a move to Long Island Lutheran from St. Anthony's late, which had me wondering how the start of the season would go. The first game was filled with ups and downs. He was benched at one point, but then he came back in that same game and led a pretty serious comeback. Limited time in St. Anthony's offense last season was enough film for me to feel confident about his potential, and he has shown a lot in the first few weeks. Robinson has filled the box score for 700+ yards, 11/3 TD to INT ratio, and nearly 70% while adding a few solid runs. But tape-wise, it's the ability to push the ball down the field and consistently showcase some nice touch and ball placement that stands out. LuHi has some serious competition later in the schedule, so I'm excited to see how Robinson continues this season.

Poly Prep

2025 QB [player_tooltip player_id='505529' first='Connor' last='Igoe'] - Igoe has been extremely efficient this season with 0 interceptions so far and leading Poly Prep to three 30+ point games in the first three of the season. Igoe's tape in those three games is solid two - a huge prospect at 6'6, 200+; Igoe moves well in the pocket, has a strong arm, and consistently shows the ability to drive the ball down the field.

2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1506311' first='Nate' last='Rosenblatt'] - I was wondering before the season who would become Igoe's top target, and [player_tooltip player_id='1506311' first='Nate' last='Rosenblatt'] has been exceptional so far, looks fast on tape and has some quickness and twitch and tracks the ball really well down the field. For a prospect who is a little undersized, he stretches the field well with his speed. Rosenblatt's full-season tape should be really exciting.

Rye Country Day

2026 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='820004' first='Amir' last='Hogans'] - Hogans is the true definition of an athlete as he could probably play all 11 positions on defense and multiple more on offense. At 6'2, 220lbs, his first few games of the tape show a player with football instincts on a level above the competition. Hogans after the catch has some wiggle and the ability to make guys miss, you don't often get to see him hit full speed on film but he has a very impressive catch radius and some of the best hands I have seen on tape so far this season.

NYCHSFL AA

Fordham Prep

2025 QB [player_tooltip player_id='820134' first='Jonathan' last='Bailey'] - You don't often get track kids at QB. Still, Bailey is one of the top hurdlers in the state and seems to have built a little bit after becoming the starter last season with an injury to Fordham Prep's starting QB. Very limited film out on Bailey. Still, he put up good numbers last season and has done some solid work so far. With his track accolades indicating his explosiveness, he is a player that I am excited to see some stuff on. He will also probably force me to see Fordham Prep before playoff time.

2027 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1506315' first='Lake' last='Chiesi'] - Chiesi has had some solid numbers to start the season, and with Fordham seemingly having a very strong passing attack this year and Chiesi being one of the top producers at WR, I am intrigued to see some film when it comes out. Fordham Prep's offense should have some opportunities to put up some big numbers after facing Gonzaga (DC) and AAA Kellenberg early on.

Holy Trinity

2025 WR [player_tooltip player_id='505537' first='Chase' last='Cruz'] - Cruz is a part of a three-headed group at WR1, WR2, and QB1 for Holy Trinity and while they lost a ton of talent the past few years and have not been able to replenish much Cruz and co have started the year off with some big offensive plays. His ability after the catch with his quickness and burst to make guys miss along with the speed on tape to pull away from guys and turn anything to a touchdown is what has made him one of the better wide receivers so far in New York.

Moore Catholic

2026 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1248861' first='Gerald' last='Green Jr'] - Green Jr is a player that is intriguing not only because of his measurables at 6'1 175 for a young athlete but also because he is a proven track performer in the 200m and long/triple jump. On a Moore offense led last year by multiple upperclassmen, there was not a ton of opportunity, but against Curtis, he was easily the best athlete on the field. His game had a different level of explosiveness compared to other prospects on Curtis and Moore Catholic.

2026 LB [player_tooltip player_id='806628' first='Elijah' last='Jones'] - With all the talented college prospects on this Moore Catholic defense, [player_tooltip player_id='806628' first='Elijah' last='Jones'] has stood out through the first few weeks of the season; when I saw Moore live vs. Curtis, he stood out with a sack, a few TFLs and helped stop Curtis' strong RB duo. He plays an EDGE/OLB role, and at 6'1, 200lbs, he may be better as an off-ball linebacker at the next level. He moves well, showed he can change direction when I saw him in person, and played with both good effort and finish to his tackles.

Mount Saint Michael

2027 DT [player_tooltip player_id='505864' first='Jaire' last='Edwards'] - Edwards has been a player on our radar for a while now, and this particular season has been a big part of the Mount Saint Michael defense, only allowing 14 points through three games. No film so far, but with his youth and measurables (6'2 290, most recently updated on HUDL), he is a player whose midseason and full-season film will be a must-watch.

St. Francis Prep

2026 SAF [player_tooltip player_id='1506353' first='Troy' last='Fason Jr'] - Fason Jr, also a standout basketball player, has had some quality performances early in the season for a St. Francis Prep team that looks like a legit player in CHSFL AA. No football highlights yet, but he was a solid performer last season and started the season off hot again.

2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1506358' first='Rocco' last='Petronella'] - Petronella has been one of the leading WRs in the CHSFL so far and is excited to see some film drop midseason or at the end of the season. The Junior has a few clips on X, including this catch below.

https://twitter.com/Rocky51871/status/1838253525341819052

St. John the Baptist

2025 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1506367' first='Maxwell' last='Bowers'] - Bowers has been a solid dual-threat prospect for St. John the Baptist so far this season, leading the team in passing and rushing. Last year was a few guys at QB, and this year, Bowers was able to hold off an incoming transfer to be the guy. He responded by being responsible for multiple 235+ yard games to start off the season and has been the offense for the Cougars while also playing safety. He's a good athlete playing QB who may be a SAF or WR if he plays at the next level, but he's a really tough player so far in September.

St. Joseph by the Sea

2025 SAF [player_tooltip player_id='1506360' first='Anthony' last='Lavezzoli'] - Lavezzoli has film out from his first few games with St. Joseph-by-the-Sea and the SAF/ATH has had a strong start to the year - some decent offensive reps but I like what he has done at safety so far, consistent tackler on film and has some quality coverage reps both in man and zone coverage so far.

St. Peter's

2025 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1205421' first='Marco' last='Aruta'] - Aruta has started off the year well and has taken a big step forward throwing the ball through the first month of the year upping his efficiency. One of the top run-first quarterback prospects in the state.

2025 RB [player_tooltip player_id='1213000' first='Jeremiah' last='Williams'] - A smaller RB prospect, Williams has built off of last season and has done some solid blocking this year in addition to his strong reputation as a playmaker. Size may make him more of a DIII prospect, but in space, he shows a lot of burst and wiggle.

Xavier

2025 TE [player_tooltip player_id='1283608' first='Jackson' last='Lent'] - On a Xavier team with multiple committed Seniors, Lent, who is uncommitted but currently has a couple of DIII offers, has stood out at the tight end position. A player who could potentially also be a OLB/DE prospect I like his movement and athleticism from the TE position and has the size and strength to put his hand in the ground and block.
