Enjoy!

The 2026 football season continues this week as the long offseason is finally over! Every Thursday, we'll put the spotlight on ten players to watch in some of the biggest games across the state of Oklahoma. On Wednesday nights, you can get a sneak peek at the ten players to watch by checking out our YouTube channel at 7PM.

RELATED

- Week Two Players To Watch Video

[player_tooltip player_id='1717266' first='Brody' last='Smith'] - Sophomore Quarterback - Metro Christian

Metro Christian sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1717266' first='Brody' last='Smith'] got off to a great start in Metro's week zero win over Poteau. He filled up the stat sheet and has established himself as QB1 for the Patriots moving forward. There is no doubt that he has the natural talent to be one of the better quarterbacks in the state's 2029 class. He established that last year with Regent Prep and is continuing to do the same thing this fall with Metro Christian. But Friday night, the Patriots face another tough test as Cascia Hall comes to town and they have a defense that can shut an opponent down. They will also have a chip on their shoulder after Metro came to Cascia last year and dominated the Commandos in the second half. Smith will look to continue his hot start and make more of a statement to the rest of Class 3A on Friday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1642495' first='Caleb' last='Peterson'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Lincoln Christian

We wrote about Lincoln Christian junior wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1642495' first='Caleb' last='Peterson'] this summer, saying that he had the potential to be a breakout star for the Bulldogs this fall. On the opening kickoff of the season, Peterson nearly took it to the house against Jones. On that first possession of the season, he caught the team's first touchdown. In the final minute of that first game, he had the game-clinching interception on defense. There are players that impact the game in all three phases and then there are players like Peterson, that not only impact the game but they are an absolute weapon in all three phases of the game. That will certainly be something to watch as Peterson and the Bulldogs put their 44-game winning streak on the line Friday night when Lincoln Christian hosts Arkansas powerhouse Shiloh Christian.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680012' first='Cayden' last='Belletto'] - Senior Quarterback - Elgin

It's Elgin and Tuttle part three after these two faced off for the 4A state title in each of the last two years. It feels like this game should be played at UCO but with Elgin moving up to 5A, this is just a very great non-district game in Elgin on Friday night. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1680012' first='Cayden' last='Belletto'] certainly has had this game circled on the schedule after watching how last year's game ended. Tuttle stunned Elgin in the final minute and prevented them from going back to back. Belletto is an outstanding quarterback that might have been overshadowed last year because of the star running back in the Elgin backfield. But he was solid last year and has taken a major step forward this year. He's spreading the ball around and keeping everyone involved. But there's no doubt that facing Tuttle's defense will be one of the toughest challenges this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='216547' first='Colton' last='McComb'] - Senior Running Back/Linebacker - Edmond Memorial

Edmond Memorial senior and Kansas State commit [player_tooltip player_id='216547' first='Colton' last='McComb'] is one of the better prospects in the state's 2027 class so every time he steps on the field, he's going to be a player to watch. The Bulldogs are off to a 2-0 start this season and they've been rather dominant in wins over Piedmont and Edmond Santa Fe. This week, they are going on the road to face a Deer Creek squad that is also 2-0 on the young season and this is a team that is not lacking talent on either side of the ball. At his core, McComb is a linebacker and has been one of the best linebackers in 6A-1 and the state since his sophomore season. But through the first few games of the year, McComb has also been productive on offense, racking up yards and touchdowns as a runner and also as a receiver in this Edmond Memorial offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] - Senior Quarterback - Davis

It's Murray County Bedlam as Davis goes on the road to face Sulphur in a massive week two rivalry game. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] is heading into his fourth season as QB1 of the Wolves and he's done just about everything he can do in a career, but he's 1-2 against the Bulldogs and they've lost the last two meetings. That could be something in the back of his mind as he takes the field to face their rivals just one last time. Owens is without a doubt one of the best playmakers in the state and last week was a good example of that. In their season-opening win over Lone Grove, Owens ran their offense to perfection and spread the ball around. He was one of three different Davis players that had over 100 yards on the ground. They'll look to continue that balanced success against a very stout Sulphur defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1164601' first='Jett' last='Frankum'] - Junior Running Back/Defensive Back - Plainview

Plainview goes on the road to face Holdenville on Friday night and this is one of the more underrated games across the state in our opinion. Holdenville has been lights out so far this season but Plainview could be their toughest test that they'll see in the regular season. Plainview kicked off their season in week zero with a big win and junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1164601' first='Jett' last='Frankum'] was a player that backed up all the preseason hype. We've liked Frankum as a legitimate two-way star for a while now. That thought was backed up when we saw him in person back in the spring and then, in their season opener, he ran for 300 yards and found the end zone several times. Frankum's play on defense will also be important as they try to slow down a Holdenville rushing attack that can light up the scoreboard in a very efficient way.

[player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] - Junior Athlete - Owasso

In a game that we're fired up to watch in person, Owasso goes on the road to face Broken Arrow Friday night. Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] is hands down one of the best players in the state and has established himself as one of the state's top 2028 prospects. But we were curious how he was going to look going from Rejoice Christian, where he dominated Class A-1 competition to Owasso, where he'd face 6A-1 competition every week. He passed the first test in their season opener against Bixby. He had a one-handed catch that we still don't know how he came down with it for a touchdown. There is no doubt that whenever he steps on the field, he's one of the best players on that field. But now, he's stepping on the field against a Broken Arrow secondary that has three P4 commits in their lineup.

[player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] - Senior Quarterback/Defensive Back - Talihina

Talihina is a heavy favorite to capture another state championship this season but they might be playing their toughest opponent this week as Mansfield, Arkansas comes to town. They are a defending state champion and will be a huge test for senior [player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] and the Golden Tigers. Griffith is without a doubt one of the best players in the state. He threw for over 4,000 yards and ran for over 1,000 yards last season while accounting for an eye-popping 75 touchdowns on offense. He comes into this season looking to lead Talihina to another state championship but Friday night's test against Mansfield will be very interesting to watch play out. We're used to seeing Griffith dominate Talihina's opponent on a weekly basis but the challenge level has definitely elevated as they look to take down a defending Arkansas state champ.

[player_tooltip player_id='1831002' first='Nathan' last='Hobbs'] - Senior Linebacker - Bixby

Bixby squares off with Jenks at TU's Chapman Stadium on Friday night so we had to go with senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1831002' first='Nathan' last='Hobbs'] as a player to watch in this one. First off, Hobbs got on our radar in their win over Owasso last year, in a game that was played at TU. Also, he just picked up an offer from Tulsa while on a game day visit on Saturday. So you have those little background notes but on the field, Hobbs is an absolute mad man and usually plays at his best against the top competition. He's a linebacker that can get after the quarterback and live in the backfield or drop back in pass coverage. And we've said this plenty of times but we don't think there is another linebacker that is better at disrupting the quarterback by getting in the middle of the passing lane and getting hands on the ball. He's one of the best in the state and looks to do it again Friday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1837321' first='Zechariah' last='Robinson'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive End - Mount St. Mary

Mount St. Mary head coach J.D. Runnels is on the record that Friday's game against Jones is one of the biggest games in program history. It's an opportunity to prove to the rest of the state that the Rockets have arrived. And senior wide receiver and defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='1837321' first='Zechariah' last='Robinson'] should be ready for the match-up. In last year's game against the eventual state champs, Robinson performed incredibly well on both sides of the ball. He was a match-up nightmare on offense, making big catch after big catch. We've said this before but Robinson is an absolute alien and has the ability to flip a game in the blink of an eye. Then you watch what he's able to do as an edge rusher on defense and it's another match-up nightmare. We believe that Robinson should come into Friday night's game with a ton of confidence.
