Davis quarterback Dax Owens Dax Owens 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Davis | 2027 State OK is going to be a four-year starter for the Wolves this fall and we still don’t think he gets enough love around the state as one of the top playmakers in Oklahoma. Offensively, he is the engine of the Davis option attack and is the ultimate dual-threat weapon at quarterback. Just when they suck defenses in to sell out against the run, that’s when Owens has the ability to throw it over the top and make plays with his arm. Owens also has the potential to be a standout on the defensive side of the ball. Owens is the perfect example of some football players where we have no idea where they fit in at the next level. BUT they do fit in at the next level. Owens is going to make a college coach look very smart for bringing him in at the next level. 

There’s no doubt that when you’re talking about the Davis Wolves, you have to start the conversation around quarterback Dax Owens Dax Owens 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Davis | 2027 State OK as he prepares for his senior season. He’ll be a four-year starter for the Wolves this fall and in our opinion, he’s already established himself as one of the best overall players in the state, regardless of class. The last two seasons, he’s been absolutely terrorizing opposing defenses in Class 2A-2. He’s an outstanding runner, that’s a given considering the offense. But he’s also been able to showcase his throwing ability in the last two seasons as well. Owens is the kind of player that can put this team on his back and lead them to a title.

We don’t know what Davis standout Dax Owens Dax Owens 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Davis | 2027 State OK projects to at the next level but we know that he’s a winner and he should be playing at the next level. He runs the Davis option offense to perfection and led the Wolves to a state title as a sophomore. This season, the Wolves are throwing the ball more and Owens is showcasing the arm quite a bit. Now, Owens might not have as high of a ceiling as a quarterback prospect but we can envision him playing several different positions at a very high level. Owens also has the Wolves right back in the mix for the state title hunt this season. He’s a big game player that’s capable of breaking a big play on almost every snap.

Junior quarterback Dax Owens Dax Owens 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Davis | 2027 State OK was one of the best players in the state last season so we’ll just start with that blanket statement. Owens was just a sophomore and ran the flexbone offense to perfection last fall. He would finish with well over 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground. He also threw for (yes he can throw even though he runs the flexbone) over 500 yards and eight touchdowns. Owens also had one of the biggest moments in last year’s state title game. He returned a kick for a touchdown that ultimately put the game out of reach. And the scary part for the rest of Class 2A-2 is he’s just going into his junior season. He has two more years to terrorize opponents.

Right after our last 2027 ranking came out in October, we saw Davis quarterback Dax Owens Dax Owens 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Davis | 2027 State OK and knew immediately that he belonged, and would debut in a relatively high spot. Owens debuts at #41 overall and it’s going to be very interesting to see how his recruitment will develop. Owens runs the Davis option attack with an explosive but efficient ability but there aren’t many offenses at the next level that will be looking for an option QB. But here’s the thing with Owens, we got a chance to watch him in person three times in 2024 and then again at our January camp, he’s a terrific athlete and can help a team in a variety of spots. The athleticism is there and the on-field IQ is definitely there. He can become an extension of the coaching staff on the field and he was doing that as a sophomore. Not to mention he helped lead his team to a state title. Owens will only help a team get better.
