Player Of The Year Watchlist – Week Four

Enjoy!</strong></em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Every Friday throughout the 2026 season we will be adding three new players to our Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year Watchlist. Anyone is eligible to be added but this is a list that is reserved for the best of the best. This is our fifth week of adding names and this is the start of district play so more names are emerging every week. But these three additions have already stood out this fall and all three came into this season, firmly established as some of the best players in the state and names you needed to know coming into the year. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1522515' first='Cole' last='Rolland'] - 2028 Quarterback - Checotah</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Checotah is off to a 3-0 start and junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1522515' first='Cole' last='Rolland'] has almost been a one-man wrecking crew for the Wildcats. We talk all the time about the jump that quarterbacks make in their junior season. Rolland is making that jump this season. Through the first three games, Rolland has thrown eight touchdowns with no interceptions and has also run for nine touchdowns. We knew coming into this season that Rolland was going to be one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in Class 2A-1 but it looks like he's not settling for just 2A-1, he's been one of the better dual-threat signal callers in the state. He's run for at least 100 yards and multiple touchdowns in every game this season. But now that Checotah is entering district play, we're looking forward to seeing how he plays against tougher competition. They are in the same district as Lincoln Christian and Tahlequah Sequoyah but Rolland looks like he's ready for that challenge. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] - 2027 Quarterback - Davis</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Davis senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] is on this watchlist for the second consecutive year. And coincidentally, he was added to last year's watchlist in week four. Owens is a four-year starter at the quarterback position and helped guide the Wolves to a state championship during his sophomore season. Ever since then, in our opinion, he's been one of the top playmakers in the state. So far this season, Owens has continued to lead this Davis offense and he has the Wolves as one of the top contenders in Class 2A-2. Despite the 1-2 record, we still consider Davis one of the top teams in their class and Owens leading the way at quarterback is a big reason why. We got a chance to watch Owens in person last week and he once again passed the eye test. He nearly marched the Wolves right down the field to beat Plainview. Owens came into this season as a Preseason All State 1st Team Selection and he's played like that through the first month. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1164601' first='Jett' last='Frankum'] - 2028 Running Back/Defensive Back - Plainview</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We mentioned that Davis-Plainview game and on the other sideline, junior running back and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1164601' first='Jett' last='Frankum'] was playing like the stick of dynamite that he is on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Frankum is one of the toughest running backs in Class 3A and he played like that against a hard-hitting Davis defense. Frankum got his junior season off to a major start with 300 yards in the season opener. As physical as Frankum is on the offensive side of the ball, he brings that same physicality to the defensive side of the ball. After playing Davis and Holdenville's run-heavy offenses the last two weeks, he's racked up the tackles. He has 40 on the season so far and he was always around the football in the win last week. Frankum is a 2028 prospect that we've known about for a while.
