Quarterback is such a layered and complex position. There's so much involved in playing the position at a high level. It's not just athleticism, it's not just about the smarts, it's not just the throwing motion, it's all of the above. This doesn't even account for adjustment to the speed of the game that comes with transitioning to the high school level. Today I talk about 5 players who are ones to watch out for as the embark on their high school playing careers.

Knaack is a fun watch on film. He's a guy who can play either side of the ball. At QB he's a mix of explosive athlete and big-time arm. At 6'3 210 pounds he already has plus size and frame. He's a load to bring down when he tucks it and runs. He has the arm strength to drive the ball into windows. He throws a nice deep ball that's stretches the field vertically. On defense he plays linebacker. To go with his size, he can run and hit like a ton of bricks. It will be interesting to see how things play out and what side over the next several years. Whether it's at quarterback or linebacker his ceiling is high.

Watching Shea it's easy to see a bright future for this young quarterback and why he's already getting major Power 4 interest. At 6'3 and 180 he has a great frame to build on. As a thrower he possesses a compact throwing motion and the ability to drive the ball in his intermediate and deep throws. Not everything is a fastball though, he has the ability to make the touch throws as well. While he'll make his bones with his arm talent, Kinzy is no slouch of an athlete. He's an accomplished baseball player and can already dunk a basketball. Shea already holds football offers from Kent State and Miami (OH).

Really like what I see from Claxton both in game film and 7v7.T The incoming freshman shows a ton of polish as a thrower. He's a fluid athlete who creates a lot of whip in his throwing motion. The ball jumps off his hand. He throws a great ball with a lot of spin. He shows the ability to both drive the ball and drop it in the bucket. Julian also has the ability to get out on the perimeter and make yards with his legs.

Wafzig is a young quarterback who will get to be groomed and developed in a St. Xavier program that has had a lot of success at producing college talent. At 6'2 180 pounds he has a good frame to work with. As a thrower, he creates easy arm strength. He doesn't ever look as though he's muscling the ball it's always a sound and smooth motion. He throws a nice deep ball and can stretch the field vertically. Emmet is plenty mobile and can get yards on the ground when it's given to him.

Wilmink is a smooth operator at the quarterback position. He has a short throwing motion and a quick release. He has the accuracy to throw to spots not just the receiver. When you watch him in in the pocket you see a calm and confident thrower. Along with his throwing ability you see a quarterback who understands the game at a higher level than most at his age. You see a quarterback who has an internal clock and the ability to go through his progressions.

Nashi is a dual threat quarterback from Roger Bacon High School. When you watch him, you see a quarterback who is comfortable and who's patient. He has strong mechanics that feature a compact throwing motion and a quick release. Where I think Caleb really flashes is his ability to throw on the run. When he gets out on the run, the throwing mechanics don't change. That ability to be a dual threat puts a lot of stress on defenses.

Quarterback is such a layered and complex position. There's so much involved in playing the position at a high level. It's not just athleticism, it's not just about the smarts, it's not just the throwing motion, it's all of the above. Today I talk about 5 players who are ones to watch out for as the embark on their high school playing careers.
