The time we have been waiting for all offseason is finally here as we are just a couple days away from the start of the 2026 high school football season in the state of Kentucky. With that being said, I will be taking the next week or so to release my Preseason All-State Teams. After already covering the 6A Offense, here is my 2026 Preseason 6A All-State Defense.

Defensive Line:

[player_tooltip player_id='1278396' first='CJ' last='Hall'] caught my attention on the camp circuit a couple years ago and has continued to impress ever since. Hall lines up at defensive end where he has proven to be very dependable against the run. He does a great job of stacking blocks then using his strength to shed them quickly once he sees where the ball is going. Once he sheds the block, Hall uses his speed to run down the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle before they can get going. CJ finished last season with 47 tackles and 11 tackles for loss in 11 games. Hall has also shown promise as a pass rusher, using his speed and bend to blow by opposing offensive tackles off the edge. He recorded 3.5 sacks and several quarterback pressures as a junior. CJ currently holds multiple Division I offers and I wouldn't be surprised to see that list continue to grow this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1610711' first='Sebastian' last='Blue'] is one of the top returning defensive prospects in the entire state. Blue is a very skilled pass rusher off the edge as he uses his explosive speed to his advantage to burst into the backfield before opposing offensive tackles have a chance to block him. He has also shown the bend to dip under his opponents to avoid blocks. Sebastian does a great job of finishing at the quarterback, recording nine sacks in 15 games last season. He has also shown the ability to stop the run, finishing his junior year with 39 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Blue is committed to Louisville where I can see him developing into a productive player for them at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1907204' first='Lincoln' last='Weaver'] caught my attention with a very impressive junior year. Weaver is a very difficult matchup for opposing offensive tackles off the edge as a pass rusher. He has the explosive speed to run right by his opponents while also showcasing the strength to drive straight through them and pass rush moves to defeat blocks. Weaver finished last season with 9.5 sacks in 10 games. He has also shown the ability to use his high motor to run down ball carriers from all over the field to stop the run. Lincoln recorded 51 tackles and 18.5 tackles for loss as a junior. Weaver recently committed to Southeast Missouri State where I can see him having a successful collegiate career.

To round out the defensive line, I have [player_tooltip player_id='2157702' first='Preston' last='Bates']. Bates is a versatile defensive lineman who has shown the ability to line up both as a true nose and in a shade as a defensive tackle. Against the run, Bates has shown the ability to use his strength to hold his ground when taking on double teams and to fight through blocks on his way to the ball carrier. Once he gets through the block, he has shown the speed to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle in the open field. He has also shown the ability to put pressure on the quarterback, recording a sack and multiple quarterback pressures last season. Preston holds offers from Miami (OH), West Virginia State, Glenville State, and Kentucky State, and I expect that list to continue to grow over the next couple seasons.

Linebackers:

[player_tooltip player_id='1907207' first='Jess' last='Officer'] is a player who has started to truly make a name for himself over the past year as one of the top defensive prospects in the entire state, regardless of class. He lines up at middle linebacker where he is very reliable against the run. Officer diagnoses plays quickly then reacts with zero hesitation to flow to the ball carrier with a sense of urgency. Once he gets to the ball carrier, he does a great job of running his feet through contact to secure the tackle quickly. Jess finished his sophomore year with a team-high 100 tackles along with 10 tackles for loss in 10 games. He also recorded one sack and an interception last season. Jess has received several Power 4 offers and I expect them to continue to pile up for him moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='1284257' first='Tacori' last='Fields'] has consistently proven to be one of the best linebackers in the state over the past few years. Fields lines up at inside linebacker where he is a heat-seeking missile against the run. He has a true nose for the football, finding where the ball is going quickly then exploding downhill in a hurry to meet the ball carrier. Fields does a great job of finishing his tackles effectively once he gets to the ball carrier, meeting them before they have a chance to get going then not allowing for any extra yards to be gained. Last season, Tacori led his team with 95 tackles in 13 games along with 2.5 tackles for loss. He also recovered three fumbles as a junior, returning one of them for a touchdown. Fields is committed to Marshall where I can see him eventually coming a key contributor in their defense.

Defensive Backs:

[player_tooltip player_id='1217741' first='Allen' last='Evans IV'] has put himself on the national radar over the past few years, establishing himself among the top defensive backs in the entire country. He uses his physicality to jam them off the line of scrimmage then uses his speed and change of direction ability to stay in their hip pocket for their entire route. When the ball is thrown his way, Evans does a great job of reacting with perfect timing to make a play on the ball. Allen recorded two interceptions and several pass breakups in 15 games as a junior. He also finished last season with 28 tackles and one tackle for loss. Once the ball is in the air, Burns-Crump does a great job of breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Elijah finished his junior year with four interceptions in 15 games, returning two of them for touchdowns. He also recorded 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, and half a sack last season. He has a great feel for the game, showing the ability to read both the quarterback and route combinations to put himself in position to make a play. When the ball is thrown in his direction, Haskins has displayed impressive ball skills, coming away with three interceptions (tied for team lead) in nine games last season. He has also shown the ability to fill the running lane to make tackles against the run, recording 50 tackles and one tackles for loss as a junior. Haskins also recorded a sack last year and made an impact on offense, scoring four rushing touchdowns and throwing four touchdown passes.
