USF Prospect Camp: Nate's Dakotas Standouts, Part 1

There was a ton of Dakotas athletes at the USF Prospect Camp to uncover from a live eval perspect at "The Coo" on Friday night. We start with our first batch of names that caught our attention from both sides including a couple 2027s that have started to pick up steam in July with their recruitment.   North Dakota    The amount of talent I have seen at this USF Prospect Camp in recent years come out of West Fargo Sheyenne, is starting to grow as a new name that caught my attention from the Mustangs is 2028 defensive linemen [player_tooltip player_id='2248985' first='Isaiah' last='Johnson']. He's got some size and frame to fill out as of yet, but the athleticism I saw from Isaiah during the reps I watched point at that upside that is coming for him in my eyes. He showed off a solid get off in the live reps I watched that had the springs in them to point at some position flexiblity in the defensive trenches as he fills out that frame. Isaiah is an intriguing one to watch for in the North Dakota 2028 class to see his growth in the upcoming season and into the offseason. Long 6'4 wingspan that again is learning how to be utilized, but there were glmpses in his reps that caught our attention.     Atreyu was all over my notebook for his camp performances last summer and let's just say this summer college coaches in the NSIC have surely taken notice. What has intirgued me most with Atreyu in the reps this summer, is the reps have been mixed on both sides of the trenches with more emphasis from what I have grasped at camp as a DT fit at the next-level and with how balanced Atreyu is on both sides, I see the slight translation that they are seeing. He shows off the agile yet aggressive hands you wanted to see in the defensive trenches that is persistent with his engagement yet can get off to be an effective run-stopper. Atreyu is one that is an ideal fit on either side of the line and is one that is surely going to have a recruiting battle in the NSIC with five offers in the conference I could track, which is one of a couple West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs in the trenches that has a hot commodity along with [player_tooltip player_id='1625480' first='Grayson' last='Mowery'],    South Dakota    Devyn we haved rated as our QB1 in the 2029 South Dakota class and watching his live eval at the USF Prospect Camp under the Friday night lights at Bob Young Field, told us why. He showed off the growing arm mechanics that are already blossoming entering his sophomore year at Tea Area and was another quarterback that I felt the progression in the more I watched his reps elevated from start to end of camp at the Coo. I would also say that out of the entire group of QBs in attendance, Devyn would rate in my top-tier regardless of class as I liked how his ball placement porgressed. The 5'10 190 pounder also boosts more athletic traits that we identified in testing with a 2.82 20-yard sprint, 4.56 pro agility and a 30' vertical.     It's been a hot minute since I saw Martin in a live eval at our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase a couple years ago already, but getting that live eval at the USF Prospect Camp was key for our live evals we got on Friday night in Sioux Falls. He has grown by showing off more natural hands with his receptions and I also came away intrigued with how natural his hands look when catching the ball thru contact in the later reps I saw at the USF Prospect Camp as despite not being the biggest WR out there, he was not overwhelmed by the corners he went up against. Martin is surely due for an update within our 2028 rankings group in South Dakota.     Another Sioux Falls area quarterback that got on our board early in our notebook at the USF Prospect Camp was Harrisburg 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2159897' first='Jonah' last='Young']. The 6'0 190 pounder is another one that showed off the athletic traits I wanted to see from a testing perspective, The throws I got to watch show the growth he 's made from his sophomore season with the Tigers from a ball placement perspective as I saw more downfield precision in the handful of throws I got to watch. He came in as our top 10 quarterback in this 2028 SD class, but surely one that I like the opportunity that is there to move up a few spots in that QB group.     One of my favorite 2028s in attendance not only on the defensive side of the ball, but probably overall in the Mount Rushmore State at the USF Prospect Camp was DB2 Darieion Smith of Sioux Falls Christian. His elusive movement didn't take long to show off during the live eval on Friday night and the testing numbers Darieion Smith tell the tale with how well-rounded he was athletically. He went 2.67 in the 20-yard sprint, 4.28 in the pro agility, nearly 35' in the vertical, and a 9'4 broad jump as well. He paints as a cornerback at the next-level as the quick trigger I noted during camp that Darieion could get down to the ball with how sudden he was surely show why we had him as one of the best DBs in the state in the 2028 class. Surely has a opportunity to push for that #1 spot in the DB group with his junior season upcoming.     A 2027 linebacker with growing stock during camp season in my eyes has been Brandon Valley's [player_tooltip player_id='1152876' first='Miles' last='Fokken']. He's showed off to have grown more agile movement especially with his crossover running ability that he showed during the USF Prospect Camp. He was one of a few linebackers that I really was connected to his football IQ, as anything that USF coaching staff gave him to do, he was able to have success with during the Indy period of camp especially with how well he attacked the hip of the ball carrier coming in from a far. He just picked up his first offer the other day and is one that I think his recruitment will pick up even more in the month of July and beyond.     I continued to be impressed with the defensive back group that was in attendance from the Dakotas, as Sioux Falls Washington's 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='1264213' first='Kaden' last='Carroll'] is another one that hit my radar more than once during the USF Prospect Camp on Friday night. Kaden's our DB2 in the 2027 class for a reason, as watching his reps you could quickly lock into the physicality this young man plays with especially as a press corner. Kaden quickly understood the balance you needed to have in physical 1v1 coverage to press WRs buttons, but not draw a flag from the reps I watched. There's a reason why other NSIC schools just recently bit on Kaden with his first offer that came in from Northern State the other day as he plays with a presence that would be a great fit in that conference as one that I feel more dominoes will fall for soon on his recruiting trail.
