PRZAL 2029 Rankings Release: Setting the Stage

This class will continue to take shape over the next few years, but today is about setting the stage. Here is everything you need to know about the 2029 class in Alabama.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top 10</h2>    Van Dyke Jr moves into Auburn as already one of the more recognizable and buzzy 2029 prospects in the nation. He has truly rare measurables, listed at 6'4 with manipulative length. He is still growing into his frame and finding his top gear, but his foot speed and ability to open up at his size are impressive. Van Dyke is a 6'4 corner with functional athleticism, room to grow, and varsity production. He will only continue to develop into one of the most talented 2029 prospects in the country. His upside is elite.     Munnerlyn is a talented, well-developed player who has already blossomed into a national name as a youngster. He has truly impressive cover skills as a corner, playing with a patience pace and the mechanics to always stay in phase and around the catch point. A prototype blend of length and athleticism certainly helps. He is explosive and quick to his top gear, which is put on full display when coming downhill to attack the football. Munnerlyn does everything well and has some of the most polished freshman DB film I have seen.     Washington is the most juiced-up, talented EDGE prospect in Alabama's 2029 class, and everyone I talked to about Washington agrees. In fact, one FBS DPP thinks he will be the best 2029 in the state, period. Washington is an easy player to dream on when you turn on the tape. He is an athletic, explosive player who contributes on both sides of the ball. He is quick off the line, has the length and athleticism combination to chase the ball, and will turn speed to power as more strength comes around. Washington is everything you want in an edge player, and I expect him to develop into a priority P4 prospect in Alabama.     [player_tooltip player_id='1420769' first='Bralen' last='Coleman'] is the prototype receiver in this 2029 class, and his recruitment has reflected that. He is a long, lean, cut player with traits and a physique beyond his years. He is a long, gliding athlete who acts as a mismatch down the field. He naturally can out-reach defenders, but he also attacks the ball in the air and has good body control. He is a good athlete now, but he should only grow and tap into his athletic potential. Coleman is an easy eval and should maintain as a premier receiver in the southeast.     Averett exploded onto the scene last fall as a freshman and generated national attention as a result. He is a smaller but incredibly explosive and twitchy athlete. He absolutely has the traits to compensate and contribute at each level of the field, at least better than most receivers at his size. He has a truly elite ability to separate, both with and without the ball. As of today, Averett is the most complete and polished player out of AL in the 2029 class. According to one source, he is "one of the best HSFB players I have ever seen." He has several P4 offers under his belt, and that will keep rolling.     The 2029 OL class in AL is still taking shape, but at this stage, I am most intrigued by [player_tooltip player_id='2140667' first='Brayden' last='Jones'], and it really comes down to the traits. He is all of 6'6 330, equipped with truly manipulative size and length. He is a functional athlete with good balance and hand placement for being so big at a young age. He is only going to improve as he learns to move with his size, so I don't see a world where he doesn't continue his trend towards being a premier player in the state. He already holds P4 offers.     Johnson is another traitsy, well-known OL name also on the P4 radar. He is a tall, lean prospect who played tackle as a freshman, but there is still a window to slide inside. He plays hard, straining the most out of each rep. There are flashes of twitchy movements, and he is fleet enough to reach the second level. He will play heavier as a sophomore than he did as a freshman, and as that mass and strength continue to develop, Johnson will play with more power and tie together his game. I would consider Jones and Johnson 1A and 1B right now regarding the top 2029 OL names in Alabama.     [player_tooltip player_id='2237930' first='Janzen' last='Currie'] has several major P4 offers under his belt, and he debuts as the top 2029 ATH in Alabama. Currie is best as a ball carrier, especially in the direct snap game. He is patient, follows his blocks, and has the twitch in the short areas to create his own yards. He runs hard and strains against contact, allowing him to stay upright. He flips around and plays DB, and will even split out at receiver. He is a positionless player at this stage, but it's his playmaking ability with the ball in his hands that really sets the intrigue here.     Hooper, who just moved into Pleasant Grove, has debuted as QB1 in the 2029 class. Simply put, he is the most polished and cleanest passer at this stage. He has a quick, explosive, clean release with notable pop on the ball out of his hand. He is reined in as well, proving he is capable of moving the ball up and down. He will have to prove it in the fall, but as of now, I am most bullish on Hooper in the 2029 QB class. A recent offer from Alabama sets the stage here.     [player_tooltip player_id='2138673' first='JaCauri' last='Swain'] is the true definition of a traits eval. While raw, with his blend of size and athleticism at his age, he surely has his best ball ahead of him, and P4 personnel offices will continue to fall in love with what they see. He is a long strider in space who is tough to bring down after the catch. He has room to grow as a blocker, but will toss himself into people and lay some devastating blows on defenders. He is learning how to move, which is typical with youngsters at this size with a basketball background. His best ball is ahead of him.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Key Storylines</h2>   The Race for Number 1   Each player in the top 5 received heavy consideration for number 1, and trust me, the race isn't finished. What I do know is that Demarcus Van Dyke Jr, Captain Munnerlyn Jr, [player_tooltip player_id='2231823' first='Dotarius' last='Washington'], [player_tooltip player_id='1420769' first='Bralen' last='Coleman'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1593520' first='Braylen' last='Averett'] will hang around the top 5 range and continue the race for the top spot over the course of their high school careers.   Demarcus Van Dyke Jr is the prototype. He is a 6'4 corner with varsity production, manipulative length, soft feet, and truly booming potential when you factor in his age and development. Captain Munnerlyn Jr is one of the most polished freshman DBs I have ever seen. [player_tooltip player_id='2231823' first='Dotarius' last='Washington'] is the best blend of size, length, and speed coming off the edge, and at least one FBS DPP believes he is the best 2029 in the state. [player_tooltip player_id='1420769' first='Bralen' last='Coleman'] is a prototype at receiver and is just tipping the iceberg. He is a natural mismatch, but he attacks the ball and has good body control, so he knows how to use his size. [player_tooltip player_id='1593520' first='Braylen' last='Averett'] is smaller, but has every tool to compensate. He had a ridiculous freshman season, and his explosiveness and speed translate to each phase of the game.   Each player has a legitimate case, and this conversation will be revisited with each update.   QB Focus   This QB class is just taking shape, and I expect many challengers to emerge over the next few years. [player_tooltip player_id='1694164' first='Elston' last='Hooper'] gets the nod at QB1, but [player_tooltip player_id='1420719' first='Tucker' last='Wade'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1475559' first='Jack' last='Floyd'] closely follow after productive freshman seasons.   Behind them, we have several prospects to monitor, with most of them still waiting in line behind veteran QBs. [player_tooltip player_id='1398208' first='Jamaurie' last='Jasper'], [player_tooltip player_id='1592855' first='Dillon' last='Kimbrough'], [player_tooltip player_id='1420641' first='KG' last='Whatley'], [player_tooltip player_id='2225385' first='Land' last='Sharpless'], [player_tooltip player_id='2233301' first='Alex' last='Randolph'], Jonathon Hampton, and [player_tooltip player_id='1424076' first='Bennett' last='Schorfhaar'] are all intriguing prospects with the traits to make some noise as they creep onto the varsity radar.   Expect plenty of shuffling over the next few years.   Outside looking in...   I am closely monitoring these prospects right outside the top 10:   [player_tooltip player_id='2131292' first='Kingston' last='Reed'], [player_tooltip player_id='2115472' first='JaKobie' last='Bates'], Corey Dailey, [player_tooltip player_id='1420708' first='Ean' last='Williamson'], Marquis Maze   The one to watch here is [player_tooltip player_id='2115472' first='JaKobie' last='Bates']. He has one of the most impressive offer lists in the 2029 class, comparable to the top 5 guys in the draft. I can't fully grade what I can't see, so I am eager to watch Bates this fall and get a good feel for where he truly lies.   By the numbers...   85 unique high schools are represented here.
