CCC Spartanburg: Diving Deep Into the Class of 2029

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>SPARTANBURG</strong> | The rising seniors had plenty of time to shine during the Carolinas Coaches Combine stop in Spartanburg.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Two sessions featured nothing but Class of 2027 standouts, the players who are next in line for all-star game consideration and college signing ceremonies.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Plenty of eyes were on the Class of 2028 in the third session, as that group contained a mix of guys who were young starters this past season or are the ones who are next in line.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Joining them in the final session of the day were the ones who have next after the ones who have next. Or, in some cases, ones who have already made a name for themselves from day one on the varsity roster. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It'll be time for the Class of 2029 to take over before we know it, so here's a look at some of the up-and-coming talent in action at Spartanburg that could become household names sooner rather than later.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Mason Anderson</strong> WR, Lake Wylie</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 160-pounder impressed during individual drills with his sure hands, and that combined with a good pro shuttle time suggests he'll be a nightmare for defensive backs trying to keep pace.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2106792' first='Jamar' last='Brown'] LB, Mountain View Prep</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brown did some of his best work in pass coverage against running backs, as the 197-pounder was able to match them step-for-step to keep them blanketed.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Andrae Dash</strong> LB, Blackville-Hilda</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There's another Dash up and coming at Blackville-Hilda, and in this particular case the Fighting Hawks have a 5-foot-8, 153-pounder with good fast-twitch movement. Don't be surprised if he shows some shiftiness on the offensive side of the ball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1632107' first='Emavian' last='Gibson'] DL, Dorman</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gibson (pictured) displayed a lot of quickness at 261 pounds, utilizing a clean swim move to slip right by opposing offensive linemen during one-on-ones.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1825516' first='Jyree' last='Grady']</strong> DB River Bluff</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grady put in quality work with his hands to knock balls away from receivers during drills, and during the combine he clocked in at a blazing 21.2 miles per hour that was one of the top speeds of the day.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Paxton Higginbotham</strong> WR, Lake Wylie</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Higginbotham showed off some crisp route-running to find openings against defensive backs, backing up the quick change of direction he displayed in the pro shuttle.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1856770' first='Travaris' last='Johnson'] LB, Blackville-Hilda</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Blackville-Hilda mantra of "Hawks hit harder" continues on with Johnson, and the 198-pounder put out plenty of power to gain separation from whoever was in front of him.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Victor Kaczenski</strong> WR, Lexington</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kaczenski started the day with a nice combine showing that included a 4.67 40-yard dash, then showed off a solid set of hands in the drills that followed.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2167554' first='Ashton' last='Moore'] QB, Chapman</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Moore was sharp during his reps at quarterback, quickly and securely delivering balls to his receivers to both sides and at multiple depths.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1824696' first='Josiah' last='Poindexter'] DL, Southside</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Poindexter flexed his muscle with a powerful inside move, as the 308-pounder quickly shed opposing guards and left them hoping to drag him down before he could reach the tackling dummy.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1818034' first='Gavin' last='Pyles'] DL, Fountain Inn</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Pyles has a nice blend of power and quickness, with emphasis on the latter. The 209-pounder has a reliable spin move that could be a dangerous go-to in pass-rush situations.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1818200' first='David' last='Quattlebaum'] WR, Gray Collegiate</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The sturdy Quattlebaum's ability to accelerate was the eye-grabber, and that was backed up by the data with a top speed of 20.6 miles per hour. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1612450' first='Landon' last='Robinson'] QB, Lake Wylie</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Robinson threw the best-looking ball of anyone taking reps at quarterback, with a good release point and a tight spiral that found its target in exactly the right spots.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Davion Williams</strong> DL, Barnwell</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Williams could be the next youngster from Barnwell to break out, and his ability to repeatedly win the leverage battle in the middle of the line should free up everyone around him.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
