Few players in the state have taken the type of leap in one year under a new staff that Johnson has this fall. Johnson, who is all of 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds, has already eclipsed his freshman year figures in just about every category and has become one of the most dangerous linebackers in the zone.
The Hawks have developed as a whole right along with him. Thanks in large part to his 40 tackles and a handful of impact plays, Blackville-Hilda is allowing a meager 12 points per game this fall and looks like a likely No. 1 seed in the playoffs for November.
That’s all key, because Johnson and some of his teammates are still very much in the early phases of their high school careers. Every additional week in the postseason is another opportunity for him to impress and improve. Considering he’s already proving himself, we can envision a monster couple seasons ahead for him.
