It's 300 degrees every day," head coach Bobby Collins said. "I just always go back to what we do in practice will help us be successful in games."

The Stallions return four starters on offense, headlined by star sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1816732' first='Rasean' last='Brown'] (pictured above) at running back. [player_tooltip player_id='1825084' first='Devin' last='Dixon'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1604450' first='Joshua' last='Norris'] along with [player_tooltip player_id='1856560' first='Bryce' last='Collins'] on the offensive line. King Davis is the lone senior at wide receiver while the rest will be underclassmen, like sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='1660274' first='Tarion' last='Starnes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1818037' first='Tyriq' last='Backstrom']. [player_tooltip player_id='2083002' first='Lawson' last='Miller'] will be back at kicker as well.

Four starters return on defense for the Stallions, including [player_tooltip player_id='1591712' first='Seth' last='Tillman'] who recently committed to Clemson. [player_tooltip player_id='2254211' first='Josh' last='McClure'] is a guy that Collins said is unblockable and heads into his senior season as one of Unsung Hero selections in the Catawba River Region for 2026. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1809702' first='Amari' last='Dogan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1822182' first='Willie' last='Dye'] along with [player_tooltip player_id='1112733' first='Micah' last='Walker'] will anchor things in the secondary.

The Stallions will face a tough opener at home against Ridge View on August 21. Factor that with a new region, the defending state champions know they will get everyone's best shot, and they are embracing the target on their back.

“What excites me about this year is the doubt that everybody has about our team like we're not what we say we are but we've just got to show them what we're about,” Brown said.

STARS SET TO SHINE

[player_tooltip player_id='1591712' first='Seth' last='Tillman'] DL, 2027 – The Clemson commit had an outstanding junior season on the defensive line, with 61 total tackles and 27 of those were for a loss. He's been embracing his leadership role of bringing the younger guys that will come behind him and making sure they know what to do.

Tillman on Clemson commitment: “(I've) been going there since the fourth grade and (they) have been really consistent recruiting me and it felt like home on my OV (official visit) so I just committed.

[player_tooltip player_id='1816732' first='Rasean' last='Brown'] RB, 2029 – Brown made an impact as a freshman, rushing for 581 yards and six touchdowns in 2025. He is aiming for new heights in 2026 now that he is expected to be the featured back. He's been working on improving his vision running the football in order to have more explosiveness.

[player_tooltip player_id='1819631' first='Ty'Quan' last='Brice'] LB, 2027 – Brice will be one of the leaders on the Stallions front seven at linebacker. He finished 2025 with 35 total tackles and 13 tackles. He is all around the ball and can dislodge the ball at the right time to prevent completions or strip the ball free to create turnovers and get the ball back for the offense.

Tavius Wylie OL, 2028 – Wylie returns for his junior season after anchoring things down on the offensive line at left guard. He excelled on opening up lanes in the run game as a pulling linemen and didn't allow the opposing defensive linemen to get penetration. He has great size and can move well. With Brown back in the backfield, you can expect Wylie to lead the way on the line.

FILM REVIEW

Braydon Walden QB, 2028 – It appears the Stallions have found their quarterback of the future in the dual threat capabilities of Walden, who transferred to South Pointe from Lincoln Charter School in Denver, N.C., about 30 minutes northwest of Charlotte. To watch him extend plays and find an open man downfield is impressive. He has great presence in the pocket to be able to put it where only his receiver can go up and get it. Collins said Walden battled an injury back in the spring but is progressing well and is expected to be ready for the season opener.

BIGGEST LOSSES

J'Zavien Currence ATH – Now currently playing football at the University of South Carolina, Currence was Mr. Do-It-All for the Stallions in 2025 with 87 total tackles on defense at safety, while on offense, he played quarterback, throwing for 2782 yards and 24 touchdowns.

RJ Brown RB – The older brother of Rasean ran the ball 164 times in 2025 for 1218 yards and 22 touchdowns.

UP-AND-COMING POTENTIAL

[player_tooltip player_id='1134792' first='Jaden' last='Dixon'] DB, 2029 – Dixon transferred from West Charlotte to South Pointe this offseason. He should provide a boost to the Stallions secondary with his coverage skills. He has great closing speed on the ball, like what we saw in a game against Independence on a quick out route where he got there at the exact right time to dislodge the ball and force an incompletion.

Izayah Robertson DB, 2029 – Robertson is tough to run against and get quick yards. He can diagnose plays quickly and has good instincts for the position. Sometimes the coaching staff will put him on the front line as a linebacker and he defeats the blocks quickly to make a tackle and get into the backfield.

Watson is another transfer from West Charlotte. He's expected to play in the secondary for the Stallions and has close to a dozen offers, including SMU, Tennessee and UNC.

He played both ways last year and was fun to watch. At running back, he had the vision to find the open hole and then explode with speed out into the open field. He wouldn't go down with first contact, either. At linebacker, he takes great angles to the ball and will come and lay the lumber on the ball carrier.
