Best Wide Receivers - CFI MEGA Showcase

Charlotte Football Insiders (CFI) hosted over 230 players this past Saturday, May 16th, at Ballantyne Ridge High School in Charlotte, NC. Players at all positions played well, and as of this article, 17 players have received offers!   In this article, we will continue with our positional breakdowns, moving on to the wide receivers! This group was the most talented in the showcase, and it was hard even to narrow it down to 12 players here. Let's take a look at what made these guys stand out!    Doc was the most complete receiver in attendance at the showcase per feedback from showcase coaches. He's got everything you want - height, catch radius, speed, agility, consistent hands, and excellent route running. Reports had him dominating in the 7 on 7 circuit during the offseason, and that translated very well here. It's only a matter of time before college football programs see what we are currently seeing and increase their interest in Doc, and potentially offer him this summer with a strong camp season.     I've seen Andrew before at the quarterback position, and his physical abilities are always what have stood out before. In this showcase, he was able to show just how good of an athlete he is by being a top performer at the receiver spot. Andrew is long with good speed, and he was able to make some impressive catches throughout the day. I think he can garner some interest this summer on the camp scene for sure.     Tahlib was new to me here, but he was just another young player from West Charlotte who impressed with a strong performance on the day. Speed was the main thing people mentioned to me about him, and I can see him being a big part of the Lions' offensive attack in a number of ways this upcoming season.     The leading receiver in North Carolina this past season, Ryder certainly didn't disappoint and showed why he's going to have another big season for the Trojans on the outside. Ryder is an excellent player who knows how to setup leverage to win against man coverage on a variety of routes. He's faster than you would assume, and he catches everything thrown his way. He's got college football in his future, he just has to be patient through the process, but I have no doubt he will find a program on the next level in the right time.     I really liked CJ before the showcase, and if there was a player who really helped themselves here, it was him. CJ doesn't get a lot of coverage at Bessemer City, so people got to see him up close really for the first time. The body control CJ exudes is really impressive. He runs his routes well, and he's got excellent speed to create consistent separation against man coverage. Shortly after the showcase, CJ picked up an offer from Campbell, and I think he's going to have more come his way from similar schools with a strong summer camp season.     People came away really impressed with Miles. He's already a very good athlete, and what he showed at this showcase is that he's more than just a changeup player that can do a lot of things. Miles showed he's a very good receiver who can run the full route tree, and win in the slot against man coverage. The bonus you get with him is that he can be a threat in the run game, special teams, and on defense - but if he focused as a receiver 100 percent of the time, he would be a player who's just as good as some of the top receivers in Charlotte. I'm excited to see him once again in the fall.     Carter continues to show that it doesn't matter where you play, good talent is everywhere in the Charlotte Metro Area. Consistency is what I love to see in receivers, and Carter did that very well. Watching him up close during the individual period, his cuts are precise, route running is focused, and his hands are strong when he plucks the ball out of the area effortlessly. He will have another big season for a good Christ The King program, there's no doubt in my mind.     I heard a little bit about Tony before the showcase, but I never expect a 2030 receiver to come in and show the things that he did. Like his teammate Jordan at the quarterback spot, Tony's level of football understanding is at a high level above where you expect it to be. His releases and footwork off the line of scrimmage are impressive, and he made some high-level catches against good coverage on multiple occasions against 1 on 1 coverage throughout the showcase. I feel like he's going to be on the receiving end of some big plays a lot throughout his career in Cleveland County.     Racere was a good looking receiver physically first and foremost. He played with a lot of confidence and was not afraid in getting a lot of reps and getting the work done against a lot of different defensive backs. I really liked seeing that. The Comets have a couple of good-looking young receivers who can make a strong impact on their offense this upcoming season, and Racere might be the best of the bunch right now.     DJ is another receiver who I suspect the Bulldogs will deploy in a number of ways to attack defenses this upcoming season. Speed was the first thing I noticed, as DJ has the ability to close the cushion and get behind defensive backs who don't respect that ability he has. I think he's got good hands and agility with the football in his hands. I can see him being a threat on Special Teams and in the running game on reverses and jet sweeps because of that talent.     Jaylen hasn't shown a lot on film yet for Jordan, but wow is he a good-looking prospect. A lot of us didn't know much about him because of the lack of film, but he's waited behind some talented players in that program, and I think he could burst onto the scene pretty strong this season. The height allows him to win jump balls on the outside against single coverage pretty easily. He's got some big hands as well that could project a little more physical growth also, but they're strong now in making tough catches. And he's got really good speed for his size. Exciting prospect.     Xavier has been a great contributor for the Sabres on both sides of the ball in his career so far. Offensively he showed at the showcase that he can win consistently against defensive backs against man coverage. He was another player who looked good to me in the individual period. He's got some fast feet that allow him to make some nice cuts and burst with speed when he changes direction. I've always said that's a special talent no matter what side of the ball you're on, and Xavier has that. I'm excited to see him be a playmaker once again for South Mecklenburg this upcoming season.
