2027 Rankings: Meet the Top Five Defensive Backs

The new 2027 rankings are officially released. And with over 100 new players, and multiple players positions changing, and new additions to the top five at each position, we will take a look at the new top five at each position, and what makes them worthy of a top ranking in the state of New York.   The Summer Reigonal Exposure Showcases are back, and New York has one on May 23rd. Other states will also host events. The Iona Prep Prospect is a unicorn, who can play all over the field. Sangaray mainly plays as a DB/LB, and holds over 10 offers. Standing at 6'1" 205-Pounds, he displays an outstanding build for the DB Position.   In the run game, Sangaray can lineup across the field, and at the LB position, where he showcases elite versatility, and can plug up holes across the line to make elite tackles. As a DB, Sangaray is excellent in coverage, and displays the ability to track the ball, with an elite IQ, and good hands, that can make plays on the ball.     Heading up North to Monroe, we take a look at [player_tooltip player_id='1328863' first='Terrence' last='Barner']. The State Champion DB, saw a rise in his recruitment after an outstanding Junior Season, that led to a state championship. Standing at 5'10" 190-Pounds, he displays an outstanding frame for a DB.   Barner has outstanding instincts, and displays an elite IQ. His anticipation is outstanding, and he can read a QB, and showcases an elite ability to jump routes. He is an elite athlete, who displays outstanding versatility, and good speed.     Our third ranked Defensive Back takes us back to the Catholic League State Champions in Iona Prep's [player_tooltip player_id='1365123' first='Zander' last='Poole']. Poole had an elite season, and saw a rise in his rankings after watching his tape. The 6'0" 180-Pound DB, has an elite size for the position.   Poole can play across the Secondary, but I like him mainly at the Safety position, where he displays and elite vision, paired with a High IQ, that allows him to track the ball across the field. He has outstanding hands, and can bring in the ball with ease. The ball consistently finds Poole, and he constantly makes big time plays for the Gales. Poole is an elite playmaker.     Heading back up to Albany, we take a look at one of my favorite 2027 Prospects, in CBA-Albany's [player_tooltip player_id='751267' first='JT' last='Vogel']. The 6'3" 200-Pound Defensive Back, has an elite frame for the Position. Vogel I like better at the Safety Position, but he shows the versatility to play as a Corner.   Vogel is a vocal leader, and is consistently calling out plays from the Safety Position. Vogel has an elite IQ, and plays a major role in the Success of the Brother's Defense. Vogel is a two way playmaker, who has elite speed, and can take off with a quick burst at the snap off a finger. He is a ball hawk who always finds himself involved in a big defensive play.     Rounding out the Top Five, we head to Geneva High School, where we take a look at [player_tooltip player_id='211972' first='Travis' last='Tolbert Jr.'] The 2027 Geneva Prospect stands at 5'8" 170-Pounds, and displays a slimmer frame for the DB Position. I do want to see him reach 180-Pounds during his Senior Season to help fill out his frame.   On special teams, Tolbert, is an elite player, showcasing good speed and footwork, allowing him to burn pass opposing defenders. Tolbert Jr, is an elite athlete, who displays quick speed, and elite footwork, along with a high IQ. He can play anywhere, and showcases that ability across his film.
