January Stock-Risers: 2027 QBs

We recently released our January <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/01/updated-2027-north-carolina-rankings/">2027 Rankings Update</a>, and it's time to break down the players who tell the story of the update. I've hit a couple of big-picture items so far, namely <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/01/three-things-to-know-about-the-class-of-2027/">three things to know</a> about the class and my traditional <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/01/behind-the-scenes-of-the-2027-rankings-january-update/">behind-the-scenes piece</a>. Here, we're starting on our stock-risers, looking at the quarterbacks who rose in our rankings.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 QB Stock-Risers</h2>    An electric athlete, Greenfield averaged nearly 10 yards a rush during his 1,000-yard, nine-touchdown junior season as a runner. As a passer, he's remarkably accurate, especially against zone coverage, often throwing receivers open and putting the ball in a spot to maximize yardage after the catch. That works well because he's too athletic to play man against, even with a spy. If teams play zone, he picks them apart. If they play man, he runs all over. If they bring pressure, he's heady enough to evade.     Harris is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the state, and defenses in the playoffs had no answers for his legs. He led all non-triple option quarterbacks in the state in rushing, and flashed accuracy and arm strength as a passer. That's an area of his game he's grown in over the last year, and we like his upside.     In his first year as a starting quarterback, Ishman led the entire class with over 3,200 passing yards for Northeastern. He has excellent size and refined mechanics. He improved as a decision-maker as the season progressed and has the athleticism to both move in the pocket and take off when needed.     You could see Sevilla adjusting to the speed of the varsity game as last season progressed in his first year as a starter. Once the playoffs came, he stepped up his game and was firing on all cylinders. He's a big-bodied quarterback who gets his hips and legs into his throws, allowing him to fire balls into tight windows with extra velocity and accuracy.     We've had Hough in several camps, and every time, his arm strength is the first thing we notice. It's hard not to start there, as he's a guy who can bomb it deep or put zip on it over the middle. He improved his functional accuracy as a junior, and his completion percentage jumped as a result. He also flashed some rushing ability, and while he's never going to be a guy who runs first, he was dangerous in 2025 as a scrambler.     The ball jumps out of Meador's hand like you'd expect from a guy who's 6-foot-5 and not 6-flat. In his first year as a starter, he earned All-Conference honors while throwing for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns. He has some of the better footwork in the state, and his mechanics are refined for someone his age. He's a guy I'm looking forward to scouting more in the offseason.     Ormandy has grown more as a passer than any quarterback in the class. He's been ranked in our system for years, but it was at first as an athlete, and to be completely honest, I never thought he'd earn a true quarterback designation. I was way off on that one, as he went out as a junior and completed 64% of his passes with a 15-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He was more efficient on the ground as well and currently ranks as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state.     Watson won the starting job at Myers Park after an intense offseason battle, and he played well for the Mustangs. It will be interesting to see how he progresses as a senior after he loses three of his top four targets, plus a 1,000-yard rusher. Watson has a strong arm and flashed an impressive deep ball against quality competition.     Royal does so much that goes beyond the box score,l and while Hough didn't play many close games in 2025, when they needed a clutch play, it was Royal who stepped up to provide it. He became a bigger rushing threat this year, but it's his arm talent that has him ranked as the top 2027 quarterback, and I'm told by several of his training partners that his arm strength and accuracy haven't hit their respective ceilings.
