Heading into his fourth year as a starter, the recent Campbell commit is looking better than ever. He’s a true coaching win. Not only has he steadily progressed, but the Trojans have surrounded him with more and more talent this season. The Trojans have worked their way into true contender status, and he should put an exclamation point on his high school career this season.

I’m really excited about this fit for the Camels. Ormandy is the rare multi-year high school starter whose progression has been largely linear. He arguably started a year early for Garner, relying heavily on simple reads and easy throws to win as a freshman. In just two years, he’s morphed from an athletic project to one of the top all-around quarterbacks in the state, improving his accuracy and completion percentage while being asked to make more difficult reads, deeper, and more difficult throws. He’s also learned how to use his legs as a true weapon, and averaged eight yards per carry as a junior against stiffer competition. Can Campbell continue his development? At this trajectory, he’s a high-level FCS starter by Year 2 or 3.

Ormandy’s growth as a passer has been something to behold, as he’s gone from an athletic guy with an arm to a true quarterback. After a deep 7A playoff run, Garner isn’t sneaking up on anyone, and there’s a ton of pressure on Ormandy to continue to elevate both his own play and the talent of those around him. We think he can do it, though, and another step up in production wouldn’t surprise anyone.

Ormandy has grown more as a passer than any quarterback in the class. He’s been ranked in our system for years, but it was at first as an athlete, and to be completely honest, I never thought he’d earn a true quarterback designation. I was way off on that one, as he went out as a junior and completed 64% of his passes with a 15-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He was more efficient on the ground as well and currently ranks as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state.

Ormandy has grown tremendously as a quarterback over the years. He broke onto the scene as a younger player known for his erratic arm and athleticism. Now, he’s a veteran quarterback who leads the offense well and he’s a huge reason Garner is one of the most improved teams in the state. He still has that athleticism and big arm, but he’s a more complete passer as well.

One of the few true stock-risers at the quarterback position in this rankings update, I think Ormandy could have a huge junior season. He grew as a pure passer as the season progressed last season and should be better than ever in that regard, and last year showed that he has some excellent dual-threat capabilities as well. He’s more polished and refined than when he first started as a freshman and Garner Magnet quietly things it has the chance to make a run under Ormandy.
