With the Elite All-State Team taken care of, we'll spend the month of December handing out Class All-State awards. Now, we move to the offensive side of the ball in Class A.

In writing these articles, we want to cast a wider net, expanding on the names that have already been established as the best of the best across classes, so we won't repeat names that were already listed on the Elite Team.

QUARTERBACK

[player_tooltip player_id='1221942' first='Beau' last='Burns'], SR, BGM

An all-timer in the state of Iowa, Burns solidified his legacy as one of the best football players the state has seen, continuing to put up ridiculous numbers following BGM's move from 8-man to Class A football this year. With the second-most touchdowns in 11-man football this season, Burns took 229 carries for 2,181 yards (9.5 yards per carry) for 36 touchdowns on the ground. Through the air, he completed 86-of-133 passes (64.7%) for 1,243 yards and ten scores, totaling 46 touchdowns.

RUNNING BACKS

[player_tooltip player_id='1242828' first='Jaxon' last='Gordon'], SR, Riverside

Second in rushing yards in Class A only to Burns, Gordon took 257 carries (the second-most for a player that didn't reach the UNI-Dome) for 2,112 yards and 28 touchdowns. The only other player that took the same amount of carries in Class A this season as Gordon finished with over 800 fewer yards, establishing how difficult a player like Gordon was to bring down for the Bulldogs this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1615327' first='Korben' last='Michels'], SR, Saint Ansgar

Speaking of bulldogs -- that's one of many descriptive words that provides somewhat of an accurate picture of the way [player_tooltip player_id='1615327' first='Korben' last='Michels'] played football this season for the Class A runners up. At 5-foot-4 and 160 pound running back/linebacker hybrid was nearly impossible to stop on the ground. Taking 135 carries for 1,752 yards and 31 touchdowns, Michels averaged a Class A-leading 13 yards per carry, third in all classes.

WIDE RECEIVERS

[player_tooltip player_id='2048867' first='Michael' last='Schmillen'], SR, MMCRU

One of the main standouts in the Dome, Schmillen showed off some of the best ball-skills in the state on MMCRU's run to the state championship. A mixture of go-up-and-get-it abilities that look like that of prime Randy Moss, plus the speed to get behind the defense, Schmillen looked like the best receiver in Class A by a long shot this season. The numbers bore that out, too, as Schmillen finished the year with just 26 catches for 704 yards (27.1 yards per catch) and a Class A leading 15 touchdown catches.

[player_tooltip player_id='1925483' first='Braylon' last='Lopez'], SR, West Sioux

One of the more dynamic playmakers in Class A that could beat you through the air, on the ground or in the return game, Lopez's speed separated him from the rest of the class. Leading his team in receptions with 43 for 756 yards and six touchdowns, plus taking 152 carries for 1,336 yards and 13 scores, Lopez was a handful to deal with this season. He also returned five kicks for 281 yards and three scores.

TIGHT END

[player_tooltip player_id='1693438' first='Carson' last='Edney'], SR, Logan-Magnolia

The top pass-catching tight end in Class A, Edney finished with the sixth-most catches in the class, grabbing 45 receptions for 532 yards and five scores. At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, Edney provided a big target to go to when the Panthers needed a big play.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Brayden Dunn, SR, MMCRU

Well, someone had to keep [player_tooltip player_id='2048882' first='Eli' last='Harpenau'] clean so he could hit all those long bombs to Schmillen. One of several big guys up front that pass-protected with the best in the state and created holes for [player_tooltip player_id='1242834' first='Brayson' last='Mulder'] to run through, Dunn was key in the state title run for the Royals.

Luke Riordan, SR, Wapsie Valley

Blocking for another offense that put up silly numbers on the ground this season, Riorden did much of the work on behalf of Wapsie Valley's 2,000-yard rusher, [player_tooltip player_id='1360044' first='Hunter' last='Curley']. Riorden and the rest of the Warriors OL pushed WV to being one of just three teams that rushed for over 3,000 yards.

Adyn Bissen, SR, St. Ansgar

Getting push for the top rushing team in Class A, Bissen helped propel the Saint Ansgar offense to 3,838 yards on the ground, including Class A leading number in with 9.5 yards per carry and 62 rushing touchdowns.

Wyatt Bell, SR, Riverside

Gordon couldn't do it without somebody upfront. Might as well get behind the 5-foot-10, 250-pound unit that was Bell and ride the wave of the rushing attack to six straight wins and a playoff appearance.

Jack Sheeder, SR, ACGC

Coming in at No. 2 on the team side of running the ball, ACGC was the second of two schools to post at least 50 rushing touchdowns in Class A, totaling 449 rushes for 3,598 yards and 51 scores this season, thanks in part to the 6-foot-4, 287-pound OL, Sheeder.

With the Elite All-State Team taken care of, we'll spend the month of December handing out Class All-State awards. Now, we move to the offensive side of the ball in Class A.
