4A OVERVIEW

The Elgin Owls are your defending state champions and they come into the playoffs having won 24 consecutive games. The Owls have arguably the best running back in the 4A playoff bracket and they are hungry to capture another gold ball. Right behind them is the team that they beat in the state title game in 2024. Tuttle is also 10-0 as they head into the playoffs and you can make a solid argument that they've been the best team in Class 4A this season. That will all get sorted out over the next month. Looking at Class 4A as a whole, it feels like a class that could be dominated by those two programs. More on that in a bit. But both teams will be challenged along the way.

Ada is back in the playoffs and the Cougars once again begin their pursuit for their 20th state championship in school history. Cushing is a district champion and they've been playing very good football all season, led by a quarterback that might be the best two-way player in Class 4A. Grove is 9-1, with the only loss coming to Cushing but under their first year head coach, the Ridgerunners aren't going to back down from anybody over the next few weeks. Similar to those three teams, Broken Bow is another team coming into the postseason with a 9-1 record. And the Savages have an offense that can score on just about anybody. They're hungry to make a run after narrowly missing the playoffs a year ago.

Then you have a few cinderella stories in the playoff field. Hilldale stunned Poteau late in the regular season to steal the last playoff spot in that district. The Hornets were 2-5 heading into the last few weeks but they've now won three straight. Then you have an unlikely team that could be wearing the cinderella label. Perennial powerhouse Wagoner has gone through an up and down season but they have a ticket to the dance and they'll make the most of it in their first round match-up with Broken Bow.

TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id='382955' first='Brady' last='Scott'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Hilldale

Hilldale senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='382955' first='Brady' last='Scott'] has been one of the more underrated playmakers in the state over the last few seasons. Scott helped lead the Hornets back to the playoffs this season and he's been incredibly dynamic. He has over ten rushing touchdowns and over ten receiving touchdowns. Simply put, he's one of the best playmakers in Class 4A and Hilldale will lean on him and that playmaking ability as they try to take down district champion Cushing in the first round. When you're talking about the best players in 4A, Scott is a no doubt selection.

[player_tooltip player_id='1326361' first='Caron' last='Richardson'] - Senior Running Back - Ada

The Ada Cougars have one of the highest scoring and balanced offenses in the state. Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1326361' first='Caron' last='Richardson'] has been a fun player to watch over the last few seasons but he's taken his game to another level this season. Richardson has well over 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season this fall. He's definitely a player that is on the shortlist for most improved when you look at his production in the past against what he's done this year. He's been a very fun player to watch and keeps the Cougars in a position to beat defenses in different ways.

[player_tooltip player_id='1837059' first='Cash' last='Keys'] - Junior Athlete - Fort Gibson

The future is bright for Fort Gibson as you can make the argument that the majority of their top players this season are juniors or sophomores. One of the leaders of that group is junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1837059' first='Cash' last='Keys'] and he's been one of the breakout stars this season. Keys has been the ultimate offensive weapon for the Tigers this season. He's heading into the playoffs with over 700 yards rushing and over 700 yards receiving. Keys has been one of the best all purpose athletes in the state this season, regardless of class and it'll be fun to watch this group for a while.

[player_tooltip player_id='473754' first='Cruz' last='Campbell'] - Senior Quarterback - Tuttle

Tuttle senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='473754' first='Cruz' last='Campbell'] is one of the best quarterbacks in Oklahoma, regardless of class and he's led the Tigers to a 10-0 record and in position to make another run to Edmond. Campbell might not have the numbers that some of the other quarterbacks in the state have this season but it's pretty easy to see why. Almost every game Tuttle has played this season has been decided by halftime. Campbell has only played in the second half on a handful of occasions. He's playing outstanding football this season and looks to continue that this month.

[player_tooltip player_id='1525562' first='Greydon' last='Howell'] - Junior Quarterback - Broken Bow

Class 4A and Broken Bow specifically is home to the most electric football player in the state. Junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1525562' first='Greydon' last='Howell'] helped lead the Savages to the district championship and this is a team that will not back down from making a run to Edmond. Howell is one of the state's top prospects in the 2027 class, fielding offers from multiple D1 programs at multiple positions. We've said this before but Howell is one of those players where you just put him on the football field and you're going to have a chance to win. For Broken Bow, they could win big with Howell at the helm.

[player_tooltip player_id='1045560' first='Isaac' last='Sheffield'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Grove

Grove senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1045560' first='Isaac' last='Sheffield'] is another example of a player in Class 4A that has gone under the radar and that should change this month. Look at the production and throw on the film and you see an absolute game changer at the wide receiver position. He has had some big time performances this season and it's not entirely surprising that the Ridgerunners are heading into the playoffs with a lot of momentum at 9-1. Sheffield is also a standout on the track and the speed and playmaking ability is real. He'll be a fun player to watch this month.

[player_tooltip player_id='1678737' first='Jackson' last='Harris'] - Senior Running Back - Sallisaw

Sallisaw is back in the playoffs and the Black Diamonds head to northeast Oklahoma to face Grove. Sallisaw is once again led by a dominant rushing attack where multiple players can go off on any given night. But senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1678737' first='Jackson' last='Harris'] definitely leads that group. The former quarterback has made the most of his move to running back this season. He's flirting with 1,000 yards on the ground again and has nearly 20 touchdowns. If Sallisaw finds more playoff success in the next few weeks, it's easy to suggest that Harris is going to play a huge role in that.

[player_tooltip player_id='1307135' first='Noah' last='Smith'] - Junior Quarterback - Blanchard

Blanchard has had an up and down season but the Lions are back in the playoffs and ready to make some more noise. The path for Blanchard is actually one that could see them make it back to the semifinals or further. Junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1307135' first='Noah' last='Smith'] is a good example of the growing pains that the Lions have through this season. They have a new head coach and lost a lot of talented players to graduation. But Smith has been able to improve throughout the season and he's playing really good football right now. The Lions are definitely a dark horse that could stun some teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] - Senior Running Back/Linebacker - Elgin

Defending champion Elgin is back in the playoffs and they are the team to beat in Class 4A. When they won the state title in 2024, it was running back [player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] leading the way with a 40+ carry performance in that state championship game. Meyer is once again one of the best players in the state and he's ready to put the Owls on his back this season and carry them across the goal line to win another gold ball. Meyer is also a very underrated linebacker that deserves more attention. Overall, there is no debate that Meyer is one of the very best in Oklahoma.

[player_tooltip player_id='1719591' first='Roman' last='Tucker'] - Senior Quarterback/Linebacker - Cushing

The Cushing Tigers ran away with the district championship this season and senior [player_tooltip player_id='1719591' first='Roman' last='Tucker'] is a big reason behind their run this fall. Tucker is another example of a player that should be talked about more for the production he's had this season. Tucker threw for over 2,500 yards and 34 touchdowns while also adding over 600 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. As if that wasn't enough, Tucker is also the second-leading tackler on defense with nearly 100 tackles. The Tigers are a team that looked primed for a long run in the playoffs this month.

BIGGEST STORYLINE

Elgin-Tuttle Sequel Inevitable?

Elgin and Tuttle squared off for the 4A gold ball last season and it ended up being one of the better championship games of 2024. Those two teams were hands down the top two teams in Class 4A last season and it doesn't look like much has changed as we get ready for the 2025 playoffs. Elgin is still holding on to that number one spot. Tuttle is right behind them at number two and both teams enter the playoffs with a 10-0 record. So when it comes to Class 4A as a whole, right now it feels inevitable that these two teams meet again for the state championship. Both teams have been absolutely dominant this season. Both teams feature some of the best players in Class 4A football and nobody from Class 4A have been able to push the Owls or the Tigers this season. We could see teams step up this month but this certainly feels like a class where it's easy to predict. We will more than likely see Elgin-Tuttle part two and if we don't, it's safe to say that it will be considered one of the bigger upsets in any class during the playoffs.
