Tons of close games in Minnesota's Week 4 of the 2025 regular season! From Class 9Man to Class 6A, there were upsets galore, as well as class-shifting, tone-setting victories and defeats that created some major shakeups in the Minnesota prep football playoff scene. Class 5A was the biggest victim of this shakeup, with #1 Elk River, #2 Chanhassen, and Top 5 ranked Mankato East all dropping inter-classification matchups, plus the #3 ranked 6A team got upset, game-breaking individual performances were had on gridirons across Minnesota, and new Game Heroes were crowned by PrepRedzoneMN. 300+ yard rushing games, a 6'6, 210 lb. QB new to the recruiting scene, backup QBs finding glory, and more, exclusively at your comprehensive source for MN high school football only. Dig in!

Like an competitive football team - I'm talking to you, Minnesota Vikings - you need to have a good QB, and just like when your favorite NFL team's QB1 goes down, it can feel like you're in the furthest row back in football purgatory. However, just like the Vikings, the 2025 Spuds may have some grit, as well as a good backup, enter 6'7 standout junior [player_tooltip player_id='1662721' first='Austin' last='Dryburgh'] into the conversation. With a big arm and lot of tools and exciting traits in his football skillset, Dryburgh stepped up to the tune of a 66% completion percentage and the game-winning, go-ahead TD pass to his P4-offered wideout [player_tooltip player_id='1629849' first='David' last='Mack'] with 1:15 left in the ball game. From Dryburgh's perspective, it helps to have two B1G prospects in his WR1 [player_tooltip player_id='1629849' first='David' last='Mack'] and RB1 [player_tooltip player_id='1288313' first='Taye' last='Reich'], who both earn honorable mention nods for their performances on Friday, but the position that Dryburgh is stepping into is one of the toughest in sports, and PrepRedzoneMN is impressed.

Good to see the Burnsville Blaze - in their first season down in Class 5A - pick up their first victory in Week 4 with a tight takedown of a scrappy Two Rivers squad. The Blaze's win was no-doubt powered by one of the best individual performances of the entirety of Week 4, as senior RB [player_tooltip player_id='1289981' first='Caleb' last='Kamara'] - who just so happens to be one of the fastest high schoolers in the state of Minnesota - popped off for an insane 17+ YPC average as he totaled 18 carries for 307 yards and 3 TDs, plus a 2pt conversion for good measure. A walking big-play machine, Burnsville was actually down 14-0 at half but powered back in front thanks to a terrific individual effort by the unsigned senior tailback, as Burnsville scored 13 in the third and 21 in the fourth, just enough to power past the Warriors 14 points in the 4th. Kamara is easily one of the best unsigned seniors remaining in Minnesota's 2026 class.

Down goes #3 in the state! Big-time 6A upset on Friday night in Minnesota's Week 4 as the tough & physical Rosemount Irish take Shakopee in a Big School thriller that required a new name to the PRZMN radar and some gritty defense to squeak out this W by the Irish. Rosemount's well-built 6', 200 lber. Jeru Bean, who I am very excited to get on the rankings, powered in what ended up being the game-winning touchdown with 6:03 left in the ball game, requiring the Irish's stingy defense to step up for a couple key stops to finish out the win on the road. Bean finished with 9 carries for 184 yards and 2 TDs on the ground, including a 76-yarder he popped off in the third quarter. Both teams also successfully connected on a FG in the first half, with Shakopee's Quinn O'Fallon nailing a 33-yarder and Rosemount's [player_tooltip player_id='1234621' first='Bennett' last='Simmering'] crushing a 38-yarder before half.
One of the bigger surprises of Friday night's result sheet, I think this Buffalo squad may be a legit 5A contender, folks. The Bison took down Robbinsdale Armstrong, one of the best prep football programs in Class 5A and the state of Minnesota year after year, in a a four-quarter thriller that once again was the [player_tooltip player_id='1201408' first='Grant' last='Benson'] show. Benson, an oak tree of a 6'4, 220 lb. gunslinger who has absolutely made this year and 2025 season his own and really thrown a wrench in the 2026 MN QB rankings, once again went off for a superb personal stat line on Friday night, going 16-21 for 271 yards and 2 TDs to 0 INTs + 23 rushes for a tough 86 yards and another touchdown. This kid has done nothing but score since the 2025 season started, not to mention take care of the football, throw with accuracy to all three levels of the field, and run the rock with consistent effectiveness. Buffalo led 27-14 going into the 4th, but did manage to extinguish an attempted comeback by the feisty Falcons, who put another TD on the board in the 4th but couldn't manage a second. Keep an eye on Buffalo in the developing - and now wide open - 5A race, I think we got a dark horse on our hands!

State rankings were shattered on Friday night, both in the all-class power rankings and especially in Class 5A, as Alexandria Area took down defending Class 5A state champ and #1 ranked Elk River in a rematch of last year's 5A state championship game. Not only did Alex take down Elk River, the Cardinals absolutely stomped the Elks in more-than-surprising fashion, leading by as much as 45-8 heading into the 4th quarter after racing out to a quick 16-0 start near the end of the first quarter. I didn't think it was possible for Elk River to get trounced like this, but we are not in 2024 anymore and it seems like Class 5A, in particular, is very much up the in the air this season. Additionally, PrepRedzoneMN wants to give another shoutout to 2025 season Breakout Star Talan Witt, who stepped into the gaudy shoes of now-Clemson Tigers hooper Chase Thompson at the QB position without seemingly missing a beat. Could Alex make another Prep Bowl appearance in 2025? After Friday night's Week 4 results how could you not think yes?

Upset alert, upset alert! The days of Sartell being are walk over are no longer, as the Sabres picked up their second win of the season in a huge one-score win over Brainerd, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season last Friday in Minnesota's Week 4. 20-16 is a tight one, and the Sabres defense had to work their darnedest to contain 2026 breakout contender [player_tooltip player_id='1652933' first='Jayden' last='Barnum'], a PrepRedzoneMN Showcase Top Performer with some serious pound-for-pound explosiveness built into his 200 pound frame. However, Sartell hung tough on the road, led by junior Breakout Star and Week 4 Game Hero Jonah Ambrosier, who is having a strong start to his junior season as a now-upperclassmen. With Sartell up 14-10 going into the 4th quarter, Brainerd found pay dirt behind a 1-yard Barnum push into the endzone, but the ensuing PAT was unsuccessful, and with 2:24 left in the ball game, Armbrosier found six on six-yard scamper. Brainerd failed to score again, with Sartell's stud St. Thomas DE commit [player_tooltip player_id='1602698' first='Peyton' last='Allen'] putting pressure on the Warriors offense, and Sartell sent themselves into the back half of the 2025 regular season with a huge win on the road to kickstart some momentum and hopefully a win streak to boot.

Sleepers all over the field of this one, but I am incredibly interested in continuing to watch Lachermeier and this explosive Polars passing attack the rest of the year in 3A.

Friday night's Rocori vs. Willmar matchup was the [player_tooltip player_id='1576392' first='Caleb' last='Maddox'] Show. With his Rocori Spartans trailing Willmar 20-14 late in the 4th quarter, the verified speedster went 41-yards from his stud senior QB Max Fredin to take the rock to the Cardinals 19-yard line, and the next play he caught a 15-yard pass the next play. After three-straight stuffs by Willmar's defense, Maddox took a direct snap and went airborne over the LOS, scoring the game-tying TD that his kicker Noah Mick added to the next play, successfully hitting the PAT and putting Rocori up 21-20 with 12 seconds left in the ball game. Maddox also scored all three of Rocori's TDs on the night, two with his legs and one through the air, the latter of which being a 71-yard bomb from Fredin to Maddox for an electric TD play. Rocori is gritty in 2025, everyone. Just wanted to put that out there.

Arguably the most dynamic player at the midseason point of the 2025 season, Andover's Joe Mapson has been dynamite with both his arm and his legs this fall, proving himself as the sparkplug and go-to playmaker in Andover's inaugural season in Big School Class 6A. Mapson accounted for all three of the Huskies TDs this past Friday, the last of which being a go-ahead, eventual game-winning 13-yard pitch & catch to Aidan Wiegert with 4:27 left in the ball game, after which Andover's defense held tough to surrender zero remaining points for the rest of the contest. So far in 2025, Mapson has rushed 77 times for 483 yards and 11 TDs in 4 games, as well as completed 56% of his passes on 73 attempts for 513 yards and 5 TDs to only 1 INT. Additionally, these North/NW suburbs are very interesting in the 6A race in 2025. I think that Maple Grove/Centennial/Andover/Blaine/Anoka/Osseo (sorry, Coon Rapids) area is only getting more competitive and even, not to mention the fact that they seem to be taking over the 6A scene from the southern suburbs in terms of competitiveness. Talk about it!
