St. Thomas commit Herny Bern was one of the highest-touted athletes on this roster at the start of the season, and through 7 games, he’s had a significant impact on both sides of the ball. Heading into the playoffs, he has 373 rushing yards on 61 carries with 7 TDs on the ground, earning himself the RB2 role for the Raptors. On defense, he finished the regular season with 17 total tackles, 5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, and a fumble recovery. In his film, he’s got an explosive first step off the line and can disrupt plays with his forceful bull rush. Big fan of this kid’s potential going forward.

We recently broke down East Ridge’s athletic 2026 EDGE

and his renowned pass-rushing capability for a PRzMN sack master special, but today we’ll be highlighting the 6’2, 235 lber. and his XL RB skillset. More than a hard-charging RB, Bern carries the ball like a runaway train that got off the tracks, tensing up all those around him anticipating contact with him and needing more than a single would-be force to try and corral and stop his massive momentum. Bern is a strong, well-rounded verified athlete to boot, creating an intimidating 1v1, 2v1, and 3v1 tackling assignment for worried opponents.
The 235 lber. shows great fight with the ball in hand, works to stay upright, and punches, drag, and claws opponents for every inch of possible yardage. He absolutely bowls would-be tacklers off their feet and onto their rear ends when he squares them up and makes contact, displays good vision, sees and attacks the hole, and gets vertical and up to the second and third level of the defense well. Bern also demonstrates some cutback and COD ability in space and is overall one of the last players in MN I’d want to see 1v1 in the hole. Gotta like the dynamic ability of the 6A product as well.

Representing the rare and aggressive EDGE/RB hybrid combination, there is a lot to like about East Ridge’s

besides the fact that he moonlights as a 6’1+, 235 lb. ball carrier. A rising three-year starter in the 6A ranks and trenches, Bern is a well-filled-out EDGE prospect with good testing times (4.71 shuttle, 8’7 broad) on this past summer’s camp circuit, transferring the momentum, as well as his impressive weight room numbers like his 500 lb. squat and 365 lb. bench, to a strong junior season on the gridiron. The younger brother of current St. Thomas freshman LB Charlie Bern, Henry owns hard-to-find versatility at the 6A level, stepping in as a productive RB with guaranteed go-forward when he’s not chasing down RBs and QBs for sacks and TFLs. Bern is a hard hitter and can overwhelm blockers with his power, and he shows good quickness that helps him execute twists and stunts effectively. The pop he uses to knock blockers backward at first contact, especially if it’s a RB in pass pro, stands out particularly well on tape. Plus, he demonstrates good speed as a blitzer off the edge and when pursuing and running down ball carriers out to the sideline and thump as a tackler. As a RB, Bern displays good burst, which helps him resemble a F150 of a RB when he hits the hole with a full head of steam, and he shows good vision as a ball carrier who requires multiple defenders to bring him down, keeping his legs pumping for extra yardage after contact. Northwestern and Indiana have reached out with camp invites and St. Thomas sent a junior day invite as well.

A menacing edge rusher who has seen time carrying the rock on offense, Bern looks to step into a prominent role on that East Ridge Raptors defense during his senior year. Totaling just shy of 100 rushing yards on 23 rushes on offense, and 22 total tackles with 1 TFL on defense, Bern had a bunch of encouraging tendencies on tape that make me think he could take a big leap in 2025. Bern blows up run plays by displacing the lead blocker with a tough collision, creating chaos once he’s in the backfield. Keep a look out for this Raptors edge rusher in 2025!
