Detroit Catholic Central made a statement on Friday Night. They turned what was supposed to be a competitive game into a first-half blowout. Excellent special teams play, a pick-6, and a few explosives on offense led the way to a 29-0 lead with less than a minute to go in the half.
I'll be back at DCC in a few weeks for The Boys Bowl. For now, here are my quick and honest impressions of five of DCC's best.

I didn't know it was possible for the #6 player in my rankings to impress me even further, but he did. Up until yesterday, all of my knowledge of Gideon has come via a computer screen. Some tape, some word of mouth, but zero Friday night evaluations.

I have never seen a DB over 6'0" move as well as Gideon. Extremely fast feet, fluid hips, and excellent change of direction. Most tall athletes struggle with change of direction and overall athletic fluidity- not Gideon. I also watched Gideon play tight man coverage against a very good WR. Good fundamentals, great athlete, need to watch more regarding ball skills.

Eziuka is the best interior offensive lineman in Michigan. Heck, he's proably the best offensive lineman regardless of position.

Eziuka made a very good defensive tackle a non-factor. When scouting that defensive tackle, it was actually Eziuka that I kept getting impressed with. Excellent run blocker, and able to move just about anyone in the state. I don't think there's a single MI interior D-Lineman who can go toe-to-toe with Eziuka.

I didn't go into this game planning on watching Samson, but he was impossible to miss.

I'm not going to say anything surprising. Samson has elite burst, and he's an extremely well-rounded WR. There was one instance where Samson mossed a defender and displayed excellent hands, body control, and balance. Amazing athlete, very little wasted movement on routes, and great polish.

Nothing shocking. I expect Samson to earn early playing time at Michigan State. He'll also get a rankings boost come next update.

We all know what Janda is capable of on offense. I was very pleasantly surprised with his defensive abilities.

Primarily playing on the interior D-Line, Jack sported great anchor and motor. The OLSM O-Line is quite good, but they struggled to get anything done against Jack. Not his primary position, but still an excellent asset on the IDL because of his strength, anchor, and motor. I see why Janda was such a highly-touted prospect. He'll do great things at Wisconsin!

I like what Duke showcased in the first half.

For one, he looks very comfortable in the pocket. Very few jitters, not run-happy, always looking downfield. Duke had a couple of impressive deep balls, including one perfectly-placed 40-yard throw right at the pylon. Plus, a few other quick reads that were on the money. Accuracy was good, with a few perfect balls, but there were also a few inaccurate passes. I usually don't comment on mechancis, but it did look like Duke struggled to bring his full upper-body into his throws- looked like his mechanics hurt his velocity a bit.

On the sidelines, Duke always looked locked in and confident. Plus, the strength of schedule will only serve to accelerate Duke's development. Great upside, and I'm looking forward to getting another look at Duke in a few weeks.
