Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2025 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Sand Springs Sandites!

Sand Springs Sandites

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #3 In Class 6A-2

Head Coach: Bobby Klinck - 6th Season - 38-22 Record At Sand Springs

2024 RESULTS (8-4 Record - Lost In Class 6A-2 Semifinals)

Sept. 6th - Lost To Bixby 50-10
Sept. 13th - Lost To Owasso 48-17
Sept. 20th - Beat Bishop Kelley 38-3
Sept. 27th - Beat Bartlesville 41-20
Oct. 4th - Beat Capitol Hill 68-7
Oct. 11th - Beat Ponca City 44-6
Oct. 17th - Beat Putnam City West 56-0
Oct. 25th - Lost To Muskogee 49-33
Nov. 1st - Beat Putnam City North 41-26
Nov. 8th - Beat Sapulpa 21-0
Quarterfinals - Beat Piedmont 44-14
Semifinals - Lost To Choctaw - 31-21

2024 Offensive Scoring Average: 36.2 Points Per Game
2024 Defensive Scoring Average: 21.2 Points Per Game

The Sand Springs Sandites came into the 2024 football season expecting to contend in Class 6A-2. They knew they were going to come out of the gates swinging against a very tough non-district schedule. They faced Bixby and Owasso in the first two weeks of the season. Both would end up playing each other in the Class 6A-1 state championship game. Head coach Bobby Klinck didn't shy away from wanting to challenge his team and they certainly were challenged in the first two weeks. After the 0-2 start, they bounced back with a 35-point victory over Bishop Kelley to wrap up non-district play. From there, the Sandites would win their first four district games by at least 21 points, setting up a week eight showdown at home against defending state champion Muskogee. The Roughers got the best of the Sandites, winning 49-33 but Sand Springs would win their next two games to lock up the two seed in the district. After a first round bye, they would beat Piedmont at home in the quarterfinals. They met Choctaw in the semifinals the following week and there's no doubt that there is still a sour taste in their mouths from the ending of this one. With three minutes left in the first half, the Sandites were leading Choctaw 21-6. They gave up a quick scoring drive right before halftime and never scored again. Sand Springs was outscored 25-0 in the final 26 minutes and the season came to an end with an 8-4 record. It was their second semifinal appearance in the last five years but there is no doubt that they tasted that success and will be coming back in 2025 hungry for more.

2025 OUTLOOK

The 2025 Sand Springs Sandites are hungrier than ever for championship success and last year they were knocking on the door of a trip to Edmond. This season, they want to kick the door down. They are once again a top five team coming into the season and on paper, they look like the favorites in their district. Now, a lot can change between now and November but the Sandites look like they have the talent to truly contend this fall. Five starters return on the offensive side of the ball and while they need to replace the running back and find new faces on the offensive line, they bring back one of the state's best quarterbacks from last season. They'll have a four-year starter at the quarterback position and he brings back two of his top weapons in the passing game. Last season, they averaged around 36 points per game. This season, we could see that average going up north of 40 and they could be one of the top offenses in Class 6A-2. Defensively, the Sandites bring back six starters on that side of the ball. And just like with the offense, we could see some significant improvement on the Sandite defense from last year to this year. But just like last season, the Sandites are not easing into the season. They'll face 6A-1 powerhouses Bixby and Owasso in the first two weeks of the season. It will be baptism by fire for some of those new starters in the first few weeks. But the district slate sets up for the Sandites to possibly make a run at that district championship. And if they can secure the district title, that will set them up with a better path in the playoffs. It's been a decade since Sand Springs played for a state championship. It's been about six decades since they won a state title. The Sandites are hoping that 2025 is the year they get the job done.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Ali McCoy - Running Back (Signed With UCO - All State Honorable Mention)
Caleb Goodman - Wide Receiver
Hayden Bristow - Offensive Lineman

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1304614' first='Alex' last='Dudley'] will be one of the leaders of the Sand Springs defense this season. And this is a defense that we think can really take a step in the right direction. Dudley is one of the three leading tacklers from last season that will be returning this fall. Dudley came into last season expecting to be a two-way standout but there is no doubt that he was more impactful on the defensive side of the ball. In addition to being third on the team in tackles, he turned into quite the ball hawk and had a nose for the football. He led the team in interceptions and it wouldn't be surprising to see him do it again this season. Dudley is one of a handful of seniors that have started for multiple years.

Every year we see players have breakout moments and go from somewhat unknown to one of the top players at his position. That's exactly what we saw from wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1530080' first='Dom' last='Forbes'] during his sophomore season in 2024. Forbes wasn't exactly on our radar coming into the season but it didn't take long for him to establish himself as one of the top receivers in the game. Forbes would finish with 70 catches for well over 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns. He had seven games where he caught multiple touchdowns and would earn All State 2nd Team honors. Now, Forbes is back for his junior season and is one part of a legitimate two-headed monster at receiver for the Sandites.

(2024 All State 2nd Team Selection)

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] is going into his fourth year as QB1 of the Sandites and there wasn't another player in the state that improved more from 2023 to 2024 than Webb. The Sandite signal caller was off the charts good in 2024 and would run away with Most Improved Player and was an All State 3rd Team selection. He threw for over 2,500 yards in his first two seasons combined and would throw for more than 3,500 yards last year alone. After 19 passing touchdowns in 2022 and 2023 combined, he threw 41 touchdowns in 2024. Webb has firmly established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the state going into this season and with his top weapons back at wide receiver, he could be even more dangerous.

(2024 Most Improved Player - All State 3rd Team Selection)

We mentioned with Dudley how the Sandites bring back their three leading tacklers from last season. Senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1636070' first='Emory' last='Smittick'] led Sand Springs in tackles last season with just under 100 on the season. He had seven games where he finished with double digit tackles. Needless to say, he was all over the football field last season. Having an absolute monster in the middle of their defense is going to make this Sandite defense better in 2025. And Sand Springs does need to bring along some new names on that side of the ball. An experienced and productive player like Smittick will certainly help that. Look for Smittick to be a 100+ tackle guy in 2025.

Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1297670' first='Tristian' last='Birmingham'] was another breakout player in the Sandite offense after moving from Owasso. Birmingham didn't take long to establish himself as one of the top targets in the Sandite offense. In his first four games, Birmingham would catch a touchdown in each game. He was averaging nearly 100 yards per game in that first month of the season. Birmingham wasn't able to produce in the playoffs and the Sandites certainly missed that in November. All in all, he would finish with nearly 50 catches for over 600 yards and five touchdowns. Birmingham got off to a hot start in 2024 but he's looking to finish hot as well in 2025.

(2024 All State Honorable Mention)

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Brock O'Dell - 2026 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Grady Harris - 2027 Defensive Lineman
Isaac Sensintaffar - 2026 Linebacker/Defensive Back
Joe Farmer - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1699968' first='Shawn' last='Hatcher'] - 2026 Offensive Lineman
Trey Pope - 2026 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Waylon Jeffers - 2026 Tight End/Defensive Lineman

2025 SCHEDULE

Sept. 5th - Bixby
- The 2025 season begins against the “measuring stick” in Oklahoma high school football. Reigning 6A-1 state champion Bixby comes to town in week one. When Class 6A split into two divisions, these two teams had a nice rivalry for a couple years. Bixby has won 11 straight in the series.
Sept. 12th - AT Owasso
- A week after hosting Bixby, the Sandites will go on the road to face Owasso in week two. These two teams met last year for the first time in over a decade. The Rams rolled to a 48-17 victory. But as we said earlier, head coach Bobby Klinck is not afraid of putting his team in the pressure cooker early.
Sept. 19th - Bishop Kelley
- After the Bixby-Owasso gauntlet in back to back weeks, Sand Springs will wrap up non-district play against Bishop Kelley at home. The Sandites have won two straight in this series, including a decisive 38-3 victory over the Comets last season. That would spark a five-game winning streak.
Sept. 26th - AT Bartlesville
- The Sandites will open up district play on the road against Bartlesville in week four. Sand Springs beat the Bruins 41-20 to open district play a year ago and they've been pretty successful against Bartlesville in the last decade. They've won five in a row and seven of the last ten.
Oct. 3rd - Capitol Hill
- Sand Springs will host Capitol Hill in week five and here's a good example of how geographically unbalanced Class 6A-2 is. There aren't many true east side teams in this district. Sand Springs met Capitol Hill for the first time last season and had no problems, winning 68-7.
Oct. 10th - AT Ponca City
- After a decade plus of being district opponents, Ponca City and Sand Springs were in separate districts in 2022 and 2023 but that changed immediately going into 2024. The Sandites have owned this series, winning five straight and 12 of the last 13, including last year's 44-6 win.
Oct. 16th - Putnam City West
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Sand Springs will welcome in Putnam City West to town. Similar to Capitol Hill, this is another example of how spread out this district has become. These two have been district foes since 2020 and the Sandites have dominated the series, winning all five meetings.
Oct. 24th - AT Muskogee
- The district championship could very well be on the line here in week eight as the Sandites hit the road to face Muskogee. The Roughers will have a new head coach but expect to continue their dominance in Class 6A-2. The Sandites will be looking to end a three-game losing streak to Muskogee.
Oct. 31st - Putnam City North
- Another OKC-area team will come to town in week nine as Putnam City North comes to Sand Springs and the playoff race will definitely be on fire at this point. These two teams met for the first time in recent memory last season. The Sandites would prevail 41-26 in 2024.
Nov. 7th - Sapulpa
- The annual Highway 97 rivalry game will take place in the final week of the regular season for the second straight year. Sand Springs will host Sapulpa and they'll look to continue their dominance in this series. They'll be looking for their tenth straight win this year. They won 20-0 last year.

NOTABLE

Going into the 2024 football season, there was no doubt that the Sandites were going to be one of the more battle-tested teams in Class 6A-2. They would open up the season against Bixby and Owasso, two teams that would end up playing each other in the Class 6A-1 state championship game. The interesting thing about how Sand Springs' season turned out had everything to do with those championship games in Edmond. All four losses in 2024 came to teams that played for the state championship. They lost to Bixby (6A-1 state champion) and Owasso (6A-1 runner up) but then lost to Muskogee (6A-2 runner up) in the regular season and then Choctaw (6A-2 state champion) in the semifinals. So as we start looking ahead to the 2025 season, it wouldn't be surprising if one or more teams on the Sandite schedule end up playing for that gold ball in Edmond. But this year, the Sandites want to make sure they are one of those teams when it comes to playing for the state championship in December.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2024 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 6A-2 Semifinals
2023 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 6A-2 Quarterfinals
2022 - 7-5 - Lost In Class 6A-2 Quarterfinals
2021 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 6A-2 Semifinals
2020 - 7-5 - Lost In Class 6A-2 Quarterfinals

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

1 State Championship

1966 - Beat El Reno 14-7
