Film Evals: North Bay Prospects Earning First Offers

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Deep dive into the North Bay prospects that have seen their recruiting stock on the rise earning their initial college offers.</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Breen is a solid OLB with the versatility to be equally effective in run support and dropping into coverage allowing him to play all three downs. 6'1” 200 lbs. he's got a good combination of size, speed, and football IQ to read and react. Good eye discipline to diagnose run/pass as the play develops and trigger to the ball. In the run game, he plays downhill with good leverage and physicality at the POA. He can set the edge while taking on blockers showing he can disengage and free himself up. Flashes good closing speed and efficient angles in pursuit with the ability to adjust on the fly. In coverage, he can drop into zone or carry vertically with a slot, TE, or RB while staying in phase to limit separation and play the ball in the air. Picked up his initial college offer from Sacramento State last week.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Cargill is a dynamic athlete with a wide skillset that makes him recruitable on either side of the ball at WR or DB. 6'0” 170 lbs. he's fluid with his movement and possesses track level speed running a 10.8 100 meter and 21.96 200 meter. At receiver, he can attack all three levels of the field using his speed and advanced route running. He accelerates hard off the ball for a strong drive phase and carries a good variety of release moves to avoid contact and get into his route. Natural ball skills, he shows good judgement and tracking skills with the body control and coordination to adjust. Extends at the catch point to play the ball away from his body and make tough contested receptions in traffic. Explosive after the catch, he's able to weave his way through defenders and then accelerate out of his cuts to extend gains. Recruitment is just getting started with D1 offers coming in from Sacramento State and Portland State.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Caturegli is a highly productive back with the versatility to impact the game in a variety of ways. With excellent vision, spatial awareness, and footwork he's able to read his blocks well and create running lanes. Displays good patience to allow the play to develop but also shows good awareness of when to attack an open gap with speed. Quick and sudden cut ability allows him to make the first defender miss at the LOS and then accelerates out to work to space. Does a good job planting his foot in the ground and getting north/south without hesitation. Once in space, he's got deceptive long speed to extend gains and finish carries in the endzone. Scored a rushing touchdown in every game last season finishing with 28 to lead St. Vincent to a state championship. Also shows good hands and route running ability out of the backfield. Racked up nearly 2,000 yards of total offense as a junior and earned his initial college offer from Sacramento State.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/MasonCaturegli/status/1873899714732843208 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Even after picking up two D1 offers, Penney is an under recruited 2027 corner. 6'3” 195 lbs. he checks all the boxes as a major D1 prospect with a skillset that combines his length, athleticism, and natural coverage instincts. Shows he can play both press and off coverage while being physical with his hands and body usage to create positional leverage. Great ability to match lateral movement and stay attached allowing him to run the route with the receiver. Length gives him a huge advantage in all aspects but especially when playing the ball in the air. Shows sustained long speed to cover vertically and does a good job squeezing receivers to the sideline to limit space. Like his reactionary quickness to plant and drive out of his transition to close separation and recover. Sacramento State and Portland State came through last week but expect P4 programs to follow.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Solid all around skillset for the 6'0” 220 lb. defensive lineman out of St. Vincent that gives him the ability to play both interior or the edge. He's a plus athlete that shows good movement skills and initial quickness out of his stance. High football IQ to understand his assignment and diagnose the play to put himself in position to make a tackle. Shows he can set the edge, rush the passer, and be an aggressive run stopper. Athleticism and bend allow him to redirect to the ball and chase in the short area. Flashes good hand usage and leverage to take on and shed blockers without giving ground and while maintaining his gap. High effort player that chases hard and brings strong contact at the POA. Finished the 2024 season with 75 tackles, 19 TFLs, and nine sacks. Smooth with his mechanics and footwork in the pocket, he shows good rhythm and balance from his drop back to his delivery. Ball jumps out of his hand with velocity and knows when to mix up speeds based on the route and defenders movement. Strong ball placement skills, he able to anticipate and put it in a spot where only his target can make a play. Flashes good timing and ability to layer the ball over second level defenders. Feels and avoids pressure with confidence showing he can move the pocket and create second chance throwing windows. Plus athleticism and speed to be effective as a runner. Runs hard on both designed carries and on broken plays. Earned his first offer from Portland State and will see more programs come through as the cycle progresses.</p>
