Prospect Sheet Deep Dive: Clay-Chalkville Cougars

Year in and year out, Clay-Chalkville is one of the premier programs in Alabama. Here is a deep dive into their prospect sheet. I am projecting several of these guys to contribute at the college level.    S projection. Committed to Cincy back in February. Comes in around 6'0 185, stout but still has some room to add weight. Clicks and drives hard on the football. I would consider him a striker, he hits with good pad level and doesn't get blown back on contact. Attacks the trunk against bigger, downhill RBs. Does an excellent job of deceiving blockers and getting them to hesitate. Patient, flows laterally with the direction of the offense. Doesn't get lost in traffic and doesn't overpursue. Most reps on tape show off his pursuit and tackling skills. He looks to have the hips to turn and run with receivers. Starks has a high floor. He reminds me of current Cincy DB Quavo Saboor.     Listed as a corner, might project best as a nickel given his stouter frame. Elite pursuit skills and desired hustle in a DB. Makes several long-track tackles on tape, some TD saving. Shows off his burst and acceleration when chasing the football. On tape, plays strictly with some cushion between him and receivers. Gets depth quickly with fast, effective backpedaling and kicks. Gets hands on receivers at top of routes. He survives at the top of route, will need to prove he has the hips to turn and run. Callins is another hot pursuer of the football. I think he projects as a nickel or safety long-term. Holds several D1 offers.     Athletic, stout OL prospect who projects on the interior. Has room to add weight to his frame. Pops out of his stance and gets to the next level in a hurry. Consistency in pad level varies, but will drive the screws of his helmet into the face of defenders. Strong upper body, rips and steers blockers off their feet. Fleet-footed, keeps his feet firing to help him drive and displace defenders. Jones is athletic enough to combo block and flashes his play strength when ripping and punching defenders. Jones will get bigger from here. His physical development and subtle tweaks in pad level and hand placement are the next steps in his development.     Smaller, athletic QB prospect. Good enough with his legs to garner respect as a runner. Will scamper for big gains when given room to create. Real smooth mechanics as a passer. Clean, smooth drop. Keeps two hands on the ball. His eyes lead his feet and he calmly clicks through progressions. Long, natural, snappy arm action puts some life on the ball. He can muscle out-breaking throws and smaller windows over the MOF. Hits his receivers in stride and will hang back a second to take on contact and wait for his receiver to get open. Frye has good mechanics and plays the point guard role well, which he pairs with dual-threat ability. Holds a D1 offer from UT Martin.     Well-developed around 5'10 198. Still has room to get bigger. North/south, one cut runner. Violent, sudden cuts help him jump across faces into new running lanes. Runs hard with space in front of him. Feet constantly remain active as he searches. Flashes good contact balance. Patient. Puts a hand on blockers and lets them climb. Vision is impressive in the open field, weaving around tacklers. Doesn't have elite breakaway speed, but explosive enough to take advantage of yards available. Targeted as a receiver on the outside, where he gets the ball in space with blockers in front of him. Holds a few smaller school offers.     Smaller DB prospect with most of his time outside at corner. Speedy enough to rally down the field with receivers on the outside. Sudden change of direction. Clicks from one assignment to another without lagging. Aggressively fires downhill and not afraid to hit. Gets his hands on receivers in their routes. Pesky throughout the route and at the catch point to make receivers uncomfortable. Holds D1 offers. If he's too small to stick at corner, his speed and willing pursuit of the football will be projectable to any spot at DB.    2027/2028 Standouts    Stout, fast DL prospect. Versatile with NT experience. Explosive off the snap, consistently shooting gaps and running right past blockers. Rallies like a maniac to the football. Will chase football across the field. Inflicts violence at the point of attack. Leverages all that with impressive play strength, having his way with blockers. Will toss blockers out of his way and also create vertical push into the pocket. McIntyre plays how he needs to play to compensate for height and length. Already holds D1 offers and I expect that list to grow.     Recent eval of Ivy:   "[player_tooltip player_id='1610259' first='Josh' last='Ivy']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/josh-ivy/"></a> is a productive DB prospect who should be viewed as a breakout candidate on the recruiting trail. He is a rail-thin prospect who is a blank canvas physically, offering room to easily tack on another 20+ pounds to his frame. Ivy is a real reactionary player at the top of routes, proving difficult to separate from. He has the ball skills to execute at the point of attack, leading his team in INTs as a sophomore. He has plenty of range, gliding across the field. As a tackler, he settles down and does a good job of attacking the trunk of bigger ball carriers to upend them in space. Ivy is raw, but has plenty of upside and should tack on recruiting buzz in the future."     Stout, true MLB projection given his thick frame. I like his closing speed for his size, doesn't look out of place when operating in space. Impressive lateral patience. Plays low to the ground and stays on his toes. Play strength flashes at contact. Ragdolls and absorbs ball carriers with ease. Tends to stand straight up upon contact, really crumbles ball carriers when his pad level is lower. Brown moves well for a second-level defender in the 230's. He has time to refine pad level and unlock the rest of his game.     Solid mix of on and off-ball versatility. Might project best to EDGE given his dimensions and upside. His motor runs hot. Purely a run-and-chase defender at this stage of his development. Closes space quickly and fires his feet upon contact. He is consistently one of the first hats to the football. He is raw, but he does everything fast and violent, which is a good sign as he grows and inches toward the next step in his development.     Young OL prospect who consistently knocked down older defenders as a freshman. Big 6'3 265 who is steadily packing on weight to his frame. His motor runs hot, driving his feet at contact to displace defenders. Finishes blocks through the dirt. He is raw in his pass set and could get more depth in his kick, but shows off his athleticism in space. He glides in the open field and can act as a convoy blocker. Bennett holds an offer from UT Martin. Given his athleticism, hot motor, and upside, I am willing to bet Bennett sees some FBS buzz come his way.
