As we continue our offseason content, we're moving to the watchlist players in the 2027 class. We try not to rank players before they have plenty of varsity film to evaluate, so these younger prospects are on the watchlist as most have been sitting behind more experienced quarterbacks. There's plenty of talent in these ranks though, and we expect most of them to make their way into the rankings by the end of their senior seasons. Here are the 2027 watchlist QBs.

Cater is stuck behind [player_tooltip player_id='896157' first='Zaid' last='Lott'] on Providence Day depth chart, but he was extraordinarily efficient in his limited action as a sophomore. He completed 13 of 17 passes for five touchdowns, spreading the ball around well. He has a strong arm and decent size for his age. He likely has one more year as a backup, before he's the likely candidate to take over as a senior. If he waits his time, he could be an excellent college prospect.

Shoulars transferred to South Garner from Clayton and while he didn't see a ton of action as a sophomore, the coaching staff loves his athletic upside and potential at quarterback. If he wins the starting job, expect him to be one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the Raleigh area. He has excellent size and when he gets a full opportunity, expect him to take advantage.

It might not look like it from his slight stature, but McGarrigan has a really strong arm. That and his pocket movement make him a candidate to have a breakout junior year. Though stats are scarce, his film tells the story of a guy who had a productive sophomore year in a limited capacity. He's developing and looks like a guy who could have a strong back half of his high school career.

Gillis doesn't have much varsity experience but looks like he could be the guy in 2025. HE has a quick release and pretty good footwork, which allows him top drive the ball. He has all the physical tools needed to be a quality varsity quarterback and we're excited to see him in a bigger role.

Watson earned a decent amount of playing time as a freshman but didn't see the field much sophomore year. That could change going forward as he has the size and arm strength to play extensively at the varsity level. He's looking to improve his accuracy and decision making and that should be better as a junior than it was as a freshman. The flashes are there and we're excited top see the steps he's taken to continue to improve.
