A full, healthy year of Shoulars at the quarterback position would do wonders for the depth of the Greater Neuse River Conference. Shoulars had just under 250 yards per game and 16 touchdowns in six games as the starter before going down with an injury. After that, the South Garner passing attack collapsed, ruining a promising season. He’s bigger, stronger, and healthier this year, and the Titans have the pieces around him to make noise in the conference.
If you want to know where it all went south for South Garner last season, look no further than how the Titans played once Shoulars went down with an injury in late September. After averaging over 215 passing yards and 30 rushing yards per game, Shoulars went down, and the passing game went dormant for the Titans. He’s added some weight, which should help him as a runner and with his durability, and he’s poised for a big senior season.
Shoulars transferred to South Garner from Clayton and while he didn’t see a ton of action as a sophomore, the coaching staff loves his athletic upside and potential at quarterback. If he wins the starting job, expect him to be one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the Raleigh area. He has excellent size and when he gets a full opportunity, expect him to take advantage.
Devin has a commanding presence while operating in the pocket. He displayed confidence in his ability to complete accurate medium range throws to receivers. He displayed good arm strength and ball velocity on his throws. Devin will continue to improve his skillset during offseason training with his dad who happens to be a Quarterback Coach. He brings a bright upside and a promising career as he moves to the high school level in the Fall.
Standing north of 6-feet tall if I had to guess (unverified height), Shoulars immediately caught my eye this past December at AYF Nationals. His current size and ability has me quite intrigued for the future Very crisp movement in the pocket for a Quarterback at this stage. Throws the ball with timeliness and accuracy.
