Don’t expect Conyers’ raw numbers to wow you, because that’s not his job. Not only is he a short-yardage space-eater who opens up tackling opportunities for his linebackers and pass-rushing opportunities for his edge rushers, but he’s also going to play full-time at offensive guard this season. That will limit his time on the defensive side of the ball, but also means he’ll get to be more of a specialized run-stuffer as a junior.

Despite competing and impressing as a defensive lineman at our Prep Redzone Combine, Conyers will likely spend the majority of his time at offensive guard this upcoming season. I think he could probably play either way in college, but I’m intrigued by the potential position switch. Either way, he’s an impressive young player with some untapped upside and athletic potential.

Despite hailing from the greater Raleigh, North Carolina area, Conyers suited up for the South Carolina Future Stars eighth-grade team. This was my third time seeing Conyers play live since December, and this was the best he has looked to date. He’s up to 6-foot-2 and now weighs 285 pounds, but has the build you want for an offensive tackle. Long limbs, skinny ankles and broad shoulders that could easily tack on 20-30 more pounds with it looks poorly. I noticed Conyers is finally starting to develop a bit of a mean streak as well, as he did a much better job finishing his blocks. Over the next four years, if he continues to make leaps like he did the previous six months, he could be come a top 10 offensive tackle in North Carolina by the time NSD 2027 comes around.

I’ve seen Conyers play a few times in the last calendar year, and this is easily the best he’s looked on the field. He’s a bigger kid at 6-foot-1 and 290 pounds, but looked much more athletic/less lethargic on the field today as compared to the past. Notably, I was very impressed to see the big man pull, bend and get up to the next level. Took all his snaps as an offensive tackle today and things could totally change once he the pads come on, but he looked to be hitting his stride today.
