Watson burst onto the scene in Charlotte two years ago, but missed last season, re-emerging as a junior at Seventy-First. After some rust to start the season, he’s gotten better every week, contributing with both his arm and his legs. He’s a bigger quarterback who gets into rhythm when he runs the ball and gets hit, and that’s something he’s done more often in recent weeks.
Junior quarterback Rmaunnie Watson showed poise beyond his years in the Falcons’ 36–28 win over Jack Britt. Watson accounted for three total touchdowns, punching in two QB sneaks and later catching the defense off guard with a 70-yard strike when they sold out to stop the run.
Time and again, Watson delivered in clutch situations, converting multiple third and fourth downs to keep drives alive and fuel Seventy-First’s explosive offense.
Watson broke onto the scene as a freshman starter for West Meck and announced that he’s transferring to Seventy-First as a junior. Watson has some dual-threat capabilities and the speed to burn if he’s given too much space to run. He throws a catchable ball and I’m excited to see him in an offense that has traditionally been good to dual-threat quarterbacks.
Watson earned a decent amount of playing time as a freshman but didn’t see the field much sophomore year. That could change going forward as he has the size and arm strength to play extensively at the varsity level. He’s looking to improve his accuracy and decision making and that should be better as a junior than it was as a freshman. The flashes are there and we’re excited top see the steps he’s taken to continue to improve.
