Washington's [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] continues to have a stranglehold on the top spot at the linebacker position in the 2027 class. The sophomore is not only the top linebacker in his class, he's one of the best linebackers in the state, regardless of class. And it didn't take long for college coaches to agree with that assessment. Alexander has seen his recruitment start to take off and it shouldn't be slowing down anytime soon. He is a heat-seeking rocket and if he's not making the play on a ball carrier, he seems to always be right there and around the play as it happens. Now, what will be interesting this fall is what Alexander looks like on the offensive side of the ball. He played a little bit of tight end in 2024 but should see that playing time expand in 2025. His older brother signed at the D1 level at tight end and his dad spent several years in the NFL as a tight end.

We've said this for about six months now but buy stock on Edmond Memorial's [player_tooltip player_id='216547' first='Colton' last='McComb'] and thank us later. McComb is knocking on the door of being a top ten overall guy in the state's 2027 class. We were sold after watching him in person, halfway during his sophomore season. Going against a really talented offense, McComb was everywhere on the defensive side of the ball and gave the opponent a lot of problems. McComb is another example of a linebacker that has shown plenty of value lining up in other positions, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. But for now, we really like the Edmond Memorial standout on the defensive side. There is a lot to like about his game. Throw on the film, look at the production against high level competition and you'll see what we're talking about. He's criminally underrated right now and that should change very soon.

Idabel linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1171160' first='Kade' last='Pratt'] enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, becoming one of the top linebackers in Class 3A and was a big part of the Warriors making a run in 2024. And look, this was an Idabel team that was not lacking some serious star power on both sides of the ball with two D1 signees on offense. But when you looked at the defense, you saw Pratt, constantly. He filled up the stat sheet, leading the Warriors in tackles during his sophomore season. Like several other top linebackers, he simply has a nose for the football and when we got a chance to watch the film, you see him in the right place at the right time, and he was doing that play after play after play. Pratt is definitely a name that we're paying attention to moving forward because based on the production alone, he's going to go into the 2025 season as one of the top linebackers.

We finish off this breakdown with another example of a 2027 prospect that shows a lot of promise at the linebacker position but he's much more than a traditional linebacker. Pawhuska's [player_tooltip player_id='1325101' first='Vann' last='Wildcat'] led the team in tackles with well over 100 on the season but he also led the team in rushing on the offensive side of the ball. Now, we still have Wildcat listed as a linebacker here because that's where he's impressed us the most, based on the film and production on the field. And while he has plenty of production on offense, he is significantly more valuable to what Pawhuska does on the defensive side of the ball. There's a high ceiling with Wildcat moving forward and yet he's still flying under the radar across the state. He's a really solid small school linebacker that should start getting more credit as we start looking ahead to the 2025 football season.
