Throughout the last month, we recapped the 2024 football season with All State teams, season recaps and many more player awards. But it's now 2025 and it's time to take a far too early look at the 2025 football season and we continue in Class 2A-1. Now again, it's still early on in the year and we are seven months away from the 2025 season kicking off so there are quite a few things that can change between now and then. But when you look at Class 2A-1, it feels like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Washington has been sitting on top of Class 2A and now 2A-1 for the past three seasons and Millwood is right behind them. Things could certainly change behind them but until someone knocks off those top two programs, it's not crazy to think we'll see these two teams meet at UCO for the fourth consecutive year when December rolls around. But nevertheless, it's time to take a look ahead and see how 2025 could shape up.

WAY TOO EARLY TOP TEN FOR CLASS 2A-1

1) WASHINGTON
- The more things change, the more they stay the same and as we head into 2025, Washington remains the top team in this class. They've won the last three state championships and come into this fall with a 44-game winning streak. They bring back the 2024 PRZ-OK Freshman Of The Year in [player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] at quarterback and also one of the top defenders with 2027 standout [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] at linebacker. They're still loaded and they're still the favorites.

2) MILLWOOD
- Like we said, the more things change, the more they stay the same and Millwood is not going anywhere when it comes to Class 2A-1. The Falcons will have one of the better offenses in Class 2A-1 this season behind [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] at quarterback. Turnbull is going to be a four-year starter for Millwood. Now, they do have a pretty special senior class they have to find replacements for but doubting Millwood would be a mistake.

3) JONES
- The Longhorns bring back quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1179996' first='Acyn' last='Hansen'] and that is enough to keep them as a contender in 2025. Hansen had a breakout 2024 campaign and looks to dominate again this fall. Defensively, the Longhorns also bring back their leading tackler in [player_tooltip player_id='587272' first='Luke' last='DeBusk'] at linebacker. Jones is in that same district with Millwood. If they can knock off the Falcons in the regular season, they'll have a better playoff path.

4) METRO CHRISTIAN
- When the Patriots bring back starting experience at the quarterback position, more times than not, they're a contender. Metro Christian does just that in 2025 as quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1292050' first='Kincayde' last='Eng'] returns but he'll need some new guys to step up around him if Metro Christian is going to contend with some of the top dogs in this class. They were perfect in 2024 before running into eventual champion Washington in the semifinals.

5) KINGSTON
- It's time to start talking about Kingston as one of the more underrated teams in Class 2A-1. Last season, the Redskins would win ten games again and ran away with the district championship. But as we look ahead to 2025, Kingston has to be hungry for more playoff success and the Redskins do bring back [player_tooltip player_id='1330266' first='Reid' last='Patterson'] at quarterback but they'll need some new faces to step up in a major way.

6) HUGO
- Hugo took a big step in 2024 by going 7-4 and punching their ticket to the playoffs. If the Buffaloes can take another step in 2025, that could see them go on a run in the postseason. Led by star wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='587266' first='Quincy' last='Shelton'] on offense, the Buffaloes should have one of the top units on that side of the ball. Shelton isn't the only playmaker returning so this is definitely a team to keep an eye on this season.

7) PRAGUE
- It feels odd putting a team at #7 after they went 4-6 and missed the playoffs but Prague could be ready to bounce back in a major way in 2025. Both Nolan Yates and [player_tooltip player_id='1626574' first='Tate' last='McClendon'] return after they each ran for north of 1,000 yards in 2024. That 1-2 punch gives the Red Devils something to work with right away. This district is going to be an absolute gauntlet but Prague has the guys to make a run.

8) LINDSAY
- We really like the experience and overall talent level that Lindsay should expect back in 2025. However, they also happen to fall into the same district as defending champion Washington so it might be an uphill climb for the Leopards in district play. But they started 1-3 in 2024 and bounced back by going 5-2 overall in district play But if they can finish in the top two of their district, they'll have a favorable playoff path.

9) KIEFER
- Kiefer is another team that might be too low on this ranking considering the talent they bring back for 2025. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1343433' first='Cash' last='Worley'] returns after starting for the first time in 2024. He'll need some new wide receivers to step up around him but his experience should certainly help. Kiefer also brings back the top production on the defensive side of the ball with their top three tacklers all coming back for 2025.

10) MARLOW
- Out of the ten teams on this breakdown, Marlow might be the team that we know the least about but Marlow has earned the respect of at least being mentioned as a top ten team going into a new year. The Outlaws lost a semifinal heartbreaker in double overtime to Millwood and also pushed Washington to the brink in the regular season. this is a team that is not going to shy away from a challenge in 2025.
