2026 Nitro WR [player_tooltip player_id='866254' first='Malachi' last='Thompson'] capped off another fantastic season in a tough loss to Bridgeport in the AAA quarterfinals. The junior hauled in 7 passes for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns against a loaded Indians squad. He topped his standout sophomore season in receptions and yards and totaled 1,593 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns on 74 receptions as he waits for his first D1 opportunity heading into the off-season.

Thompson saw double coverage in the contest after breaking a few big passes early in the game. Even as a bigger receiver, his speed is his best strength at this point in his development and he showcased that in round two with several long bombs on post routes. Thompson did a great job getting behind the secondary and finding space for his quarterback to hit him in stride.

Huntington's leading receiver [player_tooltip player_id='907232' first='Jamari' last='Tubbs'] had a strong performance on the road against Wheeling Park in the quarterfinals. The senior posted 5 catches for 114 yards in the high-flying 51-39 victory to send the Highlanders to the semis in a rematch with Martinsburg.

Tubbs went over 600 yards on the season and has scored 7 touchdowns in a deep and talented receiving group. He has a quality combination of speed and size as an outside receiver who can stretch the field vertically but can work from the slot as well. Tubbs is a tough tackle in space and on 1-on-1s after the catch. He can also be a very good YAC receiver who will get you extra yards after the catch too.

Nitro had a pair of standout 2026 receivers in their quarterfinal loss to Bridgeport with the second being [player_tooltip player_id='1130335' first='Luke' last='Shafer']. Shafer has had a tremendous coming-out party during his junior season for the Wildcats and has been a great #2 for their passing attack behind Thompson. He led the game in receptions with 10 and totaled 170 yards and a touchdown while putting an impressive cap on his first varsity season. Shafer finished with just under 1,000 yards on the year and caught 58 passes and 7 touchdowns.

Shafer is a longer slot receiver with a quick release and speed to create consistent separation. He has the size that could allow him to play outside next season, but Shafer was a reliable target over the middle with the ability to work towards the sidelines as well.

2025 Parkersburg South WR [player_tooltip player_id='1126315' first='Devon' last='Forshey'] was a bright spot for the Patriots in their monumental task of going up against defending state champion Martinsburg on the road in the quarterfinals. The senior receiver brought in 10 passes for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns in defeat but showed he belong among the state's best.

Forshey capped his high school career with 59 catches for 753 yards and 5 touchdowns during his senior year and was a reliable target all season. He worked a lot from the slot in this game but has primarily been a wideout during his career and has the versatility to do both. Forshey has reliable hands and displayed crisp route running against Martinsburg and the ability to make defenders miss and pick up extra yards after the catch. He's earned himself some D2 opportunities in our opinion and is worth a close look by those programs.

2026 Independence receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1137685' first='Christian' last='Linksweiler'] caught just 3 passes against Philip Barbour but went over 100 yards in the game as a big play threat for the Patriots.

He got vertical on all three catches and found himself behind the Colts' defense several times. Although Linksweiler didn't score, he set his team up deep inside enemy territory as the Patriots cruised to a 49-17 win. He's made some great contested catches this season and made another one in the quarterfinals last week as he approaches 1,000 yards for his junior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='908107' first='Shalik' last='Hampton'] has been a revelation for the Hurricane Redskins this season as a pass catcher and displayed that again in a big win over Jefferson in the quarterfinals.

Hampton is a massive athlete lining up at wideout and is leading Hurricane in receiving yards and touchdowns this season. He posted 3 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown in the 57-21 win that focused more on the running game. We like Hampton as a DL prospect but his performance this season proves he could play TE at the D1 level too. He's incredibly athletic for his size and has great ball skills for a 6'3 230 athlete who can also run well.
