As the 2024 season starts to wind down this is the start of a series where I will take a look at players that I expect to catch recruiting fire. We're at a point we're almost all players should have at least a half a season's worth of game film put down. Aside from grades and character traits and good film or everything when it comes to the recruiting game. Today's article features a couple of 2026's who look the part and putting the film out to back it up. It also features a handful of uber talented 2027's tat will be on the tip of everyone's tongues in the very near future.

2026 RB [player_tooltip player_id='900785' first='Henry' last='Ohlinger'] (Grandview Heights) 6'2 215- Henry is a young man I've liked since early in his sophomore season. He has a unique combination of size and athleticism that make him a very hard back for defenses to deal with. Henry is a strong one cut runner who excels between the tackles. His vision and ability to use blocks to bounce plays to the outside when he gets to the second level. He runs with good pad level that makes him a smaller target despite his height and protects the ball. The thing that probably takes defenses by surprise is his long speed. Ohlinger has borderline 4.5 40 speed, and when he get into the open field he pulls away from defenders. Henry has a P4 offer from Boston College, some G5 offers, and has seen heavy interest from P4 3schools like Indiana and Wisconsin. I expect the power for offers to come rolling in this off-season.

2026 EDGE [player_tooltip player_id='1183513' first='Ace' last='Brown'] (Archbishop Hoban) 6'4 220- Brown has supported typical frame and physical traits for top shelf edge rusher. He does most of his rushing out of a two-point stance for the Knights. Brown has a good get-off and bend that helps him win the edge versus bigger power tackles. He also has the quickness and change of direction ability to work outside in and crossover an offensive tackle when he over sets. He has the strength to stand his ground in the run game. Ace has offers from Illinois and Kentucky along with several offers from the MAC conference. I expect him to continue to pick up power for offers this off-season.

2027 DB [player_tooltip player_id='1343567' first='Kei'shjuan' last='Telfair'] (Euclid) 6'0 160- Telfair has all the look of a big time shut down cornerback. He's a long, explosive, and natural athlete. His movement skills are effortless. His fluid hips and explosive acceleration allow him to mirror and stick in the hip pocket of receivers. He's instinctive and twitchy in his breaks. When he gets to the ball in his hands, he's a dynamic playmaker who can take it to the house at any time. If Kei'shjuan continues to put in the work and hone his craft, he has a chance to be 30 offer guy with offers from all of the blue bloods.

2026 TE [player_tooltip player_id='1178353' first='Derron' last='Gray Jr'] (Afrocentric) 6'4 210- Gray is the prototype when it comes to the hybrid tight end in today's game of college football. His combination of size, speed, and explosiveness makes him a tough cover for defenses. He's big and strong enough to out muscle and box out defense backs to win balls. Against linebackers, he has athleticism and speed to simply run around and by them. In the open field, he is very sudden with his breaks extremely elusive for his size. Gray has an offer from Kentucky along with a handful of G5 offers. I expect the P4 offers to start rolling in as this offseason gets rolling.

2027 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1345033' first='Monsanna' last='Torbert Jr.'] (Taft) 6'0 160- While listed as an “athlete”, Torbert is a very impressive young quarterback prospect. For his age and size, he already shows of a big arm that has the ability to throw it 50 yards in the air. His accuracy at all three levels is impressive. His 70% completion percentage is above what you see from most sophomore varsity quarterbacks. Be it running for chunk plays or throwing on the run, out of structure, Monsanna shows the ability to make plays with his ability to improvise and extend plays. As he continues to get bigger and stronger, I expect Montanna's throwing velocity to continue to increase. Torbert has offers from Toledo and UMASS, based on strong sophomore film I expect that list to grow quickly.

2027 ATH Braylon Keyes (Springfield) 5'10 145- Keyes is a young and electric playmaker on the Wildcats offense. Keyes started several games filling in at Quarterback when Springfield's starter went down with an injury. He shows a live arm and good accuracy from the pocket. He has the ability to make anticipatory throws. He's very elusive in the face of a pass rush. When not playing QB Keyes was a playmaker at WR. Braylon is explosive off the line of scrimmage and shoes great footwork. He has the ability to win reps get separation simply off of his release. He has the speed in his route to create addition separation. Braylon is already starting to get some D1 P4 interest I'll be surprised if that doesn't start to result in some offers in the not-too-distant future.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='768102' first='Tristin' last='Hughes'] (Saint Ignatius) 6'1 185- The first time I saw Hughes in person was at our Stock Up Showcase this past January. Having just come off his freshman, season, Hughes held his own against older more experienced players. The confidence and ability carried into his sophomore season. Just before the start of the football season Hughes transferred from Saint Edward to rival Saint Ignatius. He has since put together a strong sophomore season. He's comfortable and playing in either press or off man coverage. In press man coverage he has the size and strength to slow down receivers. In space he has hips that are on a swivel. Shows the ability to easily change direction. Beyond his physical traits, I'm very impressed with Tristin's instincts in and football IQ. He processes quickly to make decisive breaks and even shows the ability to peel back and make plays when it goes elsewhere. I expect D1 and P4 interest to start to pick up this off-season for Hughes.
