WEEK ZERO'S TOP PERFORMERS

[player_tooltip player_id='1179996' first='Acyn' last='Hansen'] - Junior Quarterback - Jones

The Jones Longhorns opened their 2024 campaign with a dominant win over Luther on Thursday night. It was the debut of junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1179996' first='Acyn' last='Hansen'] as the next Longhorn signal caller and he definitely passed the eye test in week zero. He would finish with 172 yards and four touchdowns on just 10-14 passing. He also added nearly 100 yards on the ground. He wasn't asked to do much as the Longhorns rolled to an easy win. We're looking forward to seeing how he progresses as the schedule gets tougher.

Alex Nathman - Sophomore Wide Receiver - Cascia Hall

Cascia Hall had to rally to beat rival Holland Hall. They trailed 28-16 going into the fourth quarter but they would come back to win 29-28. Sophomore wide receiver Alex Nathman emerged as a name to watch moving forward as he finished with five catches for just over 100 yards and three touchdowns. His third touchdown early in the fourth quarter would get the Commandos within a single possession. We came into this season thinking that Cascia Hall would have a very good passing attack and Nathman is an emerging name.

[player_tooltip player_id='215570' first='Brady' last='Mcadoo'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Tuttle

If you've followed any of our Tuttle coverage over the last three seasons, you already know that we think senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='215570' first='Brady' last='Mcadoo'] is a very special playmaker. He didn't take long to show that once again to kick off his senior season. Tuttle stunned Guthrie in the final minute as Mcadoo would catch the game-winning touchdown in the back of the end zone to give them a 31-24 win. He would finish the night with another touchdown on the ground and he also added 12 tackles and an interception on the defensive side of the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='353410' first='Caden' last='Knighten'] - Senior Running Back - Pauls Valley

The countdown has been on for the return of senior running back and Baylor commit [player_tooltip player_id='353410' first='Caden' last='Knighten'] after he had his junior year end early on to a leg injury. Knighten and Pauls Valley came out and took care of business in the season opener against Lindsay. Knighten would finish his night with well over 200 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in the win. As we've stated many times over the last eight months, when he's healthy, Knighten has a very strong case for being the best running back in the state of Oklahoma.

[player_tooltip player_id='593641' first='Caleb' last='Hawkins'] - Senior Running Back/Defensive Back - North Rock Creek

We wrote about North Rock Creek getting a big 17-7 win over Marlow to open their season yesterday and to no surprise, senior [player_tooltip player_id='593641' first='Caleb' last='Hawkins'] was a big reason why. The dynamic senior would finish the night with 23 carries for 165 yards and a touchdown. He would also account for over 200 yards of total offense and he would turn around and finish with eight tackles on defense. We think that Hawkins is one of the better two-way players in the state and he's a legitimate D1 prospect. He backed up that hype in week zero.

Colby Shannon - Senior Quarterback - Comanche

Comanche opened up the 2024 football season with a Saturday win over S & S Consolidated out of Texas. Senior quarterback Colby Shannon had a strong showing and he would end up filling out that stat sheet in the process. The senior would throw for a little over 100 yards but he also turned around and did most of his damage on the ground. Shannon would finish with well over 200 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. It was a strong start for Shannon and a terrific dual-threat performance from the senior.

[player_tooltip player_id='382643' first='Dakotah' last='Terrell'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive End - Pocola

Pocola rolled to a 54-28 win over Antlers in week zero and their stars came out and shined bright in the season opener. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='382643' first='Dakotah' last='Terrell'] has emerged as one of the top overall prospects in the state's 2025 class. He would finish the night with four catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a sack and three pass break ups on defense. It's barely September but we think Terrell is going to lead all defensive linemen in the state in PBUs by a substantial margin. That's what happens when you're 6'8.

Dayton [player_tooltip player_id='1626574' first='Tate' last='McClendon'] - Junior Running Back & Nolan Yates - Junior Quarterback - Prague

Prague rolled to an easy week zero win over Classen SAS on Friday night. And when you look at their performances, it's hard to separate what quarterback Nolan Yates and running back Dayton [player_tooltip player_id='1626574' first='Tate' last='McClendon'] were able to do so we're including both of them. Both juniors, they came out and combined for a massive performance on the ground and what's scary is they were done fairly early in the game. McClendon would finish with nearly 170 yards and two touchdowns on just ten carries. Yates would finish with over 150 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries.

[player_tooltip player_id='858874' first='Destry' last='Lujan'] - Junior Running Back/Linebacker - Yukon

Yukon opened the 2024 season with a 26-16 win over Putnam City and there is no doubt that junior [player_tooltip player_id='858874' first='Destry' last='Lujan'] was the star of the night. He helped lead the Millers back to the win after they trailed 16-9 at halftime. On offense, Lujan would finish with nearly 60 yards and a touchdown at running back. On defens, Lujan was a man possessed, finishing with eight tackles, three tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles an a fumble recovery. We really like his game and we think he'll be a big part of Yukon bouncing back in 2024.

[player_tooltip player_id='353415' first='Elijah' last='Thomas'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Checotah

Checotah senior wide receiver and Oklahoma commit [player_tooltip player_id='353415' first='Elijah' last='Thomas'] would begin his final high school season doing a lot of the same things that have made him special over the last few years. Thomas would finish the night with over 100 yards and three touchdowns on just four receptions. Checotah rolled to the week zero win and Thomas is going to be a very fun player to watch. Whether it's on offense, defense or special teams, Thomas is going to be the best player on the field every time he steps on the field.

Gavin Salt - Senior Linebacker - Oologah

Oologah opened the 2024 season with a 27-0 win over Vinita and there's no doubt that the defense stole the show. Senior linebacker Gavin Salt led a Mustang defensive unit that gave up just 34 yards of total offense in addition to the shutout victory. The Oologah senior would finish with six tackles on the night and two tackles for loss to go along with two sacks. The Mustangs are in a tough district but this could be the year we see them return to getting into the mix in Class 4A and they could be led by a "salty" defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='242231' first='Grady' last='Adamson'] - Senior Quarterback - Deer Creek

Deer Creek went on the road and beat up on Bishop McGuinness 53-17 in week zero. It was a very efficient night for the Antler offense and leading the charge once again was senior [player_tooltip player_id='242231' first='Grady' last='Adamson'] at the quarterback position. Adamson would settle in and throw for nearly 200 yards and four touchdowns and he also added over 50 yards and a touchdown on the ground. We like the way Adamson was spreading the ball around and keeping everyone within this Deer Creek offense involved. We now get a great week one clash as they face Edmond Memorial.

[player_tooltip player_id='1678737' first='Jackson' last='Harris'] - Junior Quarterback - Sallisaw

Sallisaw junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1678737' first='Jackson' last='Harris'] led the Black Diamonds to an impressive week zero win over Pryor. Harris would put up some monster numbers in the pass and run game and there's no doubt about who this Sallisaw offense runs through right now. Harris would finish the night with 127 yards and a touchdown on 15-20 passing. He would also add 178 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Whether it's the run or the pass, Harris has the ability to take a game over and lead his team to the victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='402376' first='Jeramiah' last='Ssettimba'] - Junior Quarterback - Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow took care of business against Springdale Har-Ber on Friday night with a 42-21 win and it was a very balanced night from the offense. Leading that offense was junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='402376' first='Jeramiah' last='Ssettimba'] and he had an excellent night. He finished with nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns on 21-30 passing. He also added nearly 40 yards on four carries as the Tigers rolled to the win. Now, Ssettimba and the Tigers shift focus to another NW Arkansas program as defending champion Fayetteville will come to town.

Josiah Woods - Senior Quarterback - Southeast

Southeast came out and dominated to kick off their 2024 football season. The Spartans would beat the OKC Patriots 68-16 and senior quarterback Josiah Woods was the star of the night. The former Millwood Falcon would have a big performance on the ground and through the air. He would finish the night with three passing touchdowns and also added three more touchdowns on the ground. The Spartans look to bounce back in a major way in 2024 and they are off to a good start with Woods at the helm of this offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='482118' first='Kaden' last='Longman'] - Junior Wide Receiver - Newcastle

Newcastle knocked off Bartlesville 49-24 on Thursday night but you can't judge the game by the final score alone. Newcastle trailed at halftime and absolutely dominated the second half to run away with the win. Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='482118' first='Kaden' last='Longman'] had a terrific performance as the Racers flipped that switch offensively. He finished with 78 yards on three catches and all three went for touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown on the night. Longman and the Racers now have a massive home game against Tuttle.

[player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] - Junior Running Back - Jenks

Jenks has definitely been the talk of the offseason but now the real games have started and the Trojans lived up to the hype in a 48-3 win over Edmond Santa Fe. Junior star running back [player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] got off to a fast start, finishing his night with over 200 yards of total offense and three touchdowns on the night. There is definitely a strong argument that Jones will be the best player in the state this season and he's off to a good start. Now, we get to see back to back monster clashes as Jenks hosts Owasso this week before facing rival Union in week two.

[player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] - Sophomore Quarterback - Talihina

Talihina rolled to a big win over Summit Christian and sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] probably had the best night of anyone in week zero from a statistical performance. The sophomore put up what we call "video game numbers" as he simply could not be stopped on Friday night. Griffith finished with 272 yards and five touchdowns on 17-26 passing. That wasn't enough though as he also did damage on the ground. He also had 175 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries as he was a one-man wrecking crew in week zero.

[player_tooltip player_id='867298' first='Mason' last='Torres'] - Senior Linebacker - Lincoln Christian

We wrote about Lincoln Christian senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='867298' first='Mason' last='Torres'] as one of our "players to watch" heading into week zero and he obviously lived up to the hype, showing up here on the top performer post! Torres and the defending champs from Lincoln would dominate Victory Christian with a 56-0 victory. Torres finished with six tackles, an interception and a forced fumble but the big story is holding a Victory Christian offense that has talented players to zero points. We said that Lincoln's defense could be special and they're off to a great start.

[player_tooltip player_id='1331279' first='Paul' last='New'] - Senior Running Back/Linebacker - Kansas

Kansas has high expectations this fall in Class 2A-2 and they got off to a fast start with a 70-0 win over Westville. The offense was incredibly efficient, making quick work and senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1331279' first='Paul' last='New'] couldn't be contained. He finished the night with 131 yards and five touchdowns on just nine carries. As if that wasn't enough, he also scored on defense, taking an interception back for his sixth touchdown on the night. He was done by halftime and Kansas started 1-0 on the season and now they will host Chouteau.

[player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] - Junior Running Back - Elgin

Elgin made quite the statement in southern Oklahoma on Thursday night as they went on the road and beat Lawton MacArthur 28-7. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] benefitted the most from having one of the best offensive lines in the state. They wore the Highlanders down and Meyer would run for over 100 yards and a touchdown in the non-district clash. Meyer would also throw a touchdown and he had a 50+ yard touchdown waived off because of an illegal shift penalty. Meyer is going to be a big name to watch this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1217089' first='Tahkari' last='Bethel'] - Junior Wide Receiver - Owasso

It's hard to find a bigger name than Owasso's [player_tooltip player_id='1217089' first='Tahkari' last='Bethel'] after week zero's games. Bethel let everyone across Oklahoma who he is with a monster game in their 40-21 win over Bixby. Bethel would finish with nearly 150 yards receiving and two touchdowns on five catches. And it should have been three receiving touchdowns but it was still dominant nonetheless. He also took a kick off 99 yards back for a score and the Rams knocked off the two-time defending 6A-1 champs. Bethel and the Rams now hit the road to face Jenks.

[player_tooltip player_id='858876' first='Tayveon' last='Parry'] - Junior Running Back - Union

Union went on the road to northwest Arkansas and got one of the best wins of week zero. They beat Bentonville 42-35 in overtime and junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='858876' first='Tayveon' last='Parry'] had a performance to remember. He finished the night with nearly 150 yards and a touchdown on the ground. That rushing touchdown was a memorable one as he raced 78 yards and it felt like he made every single Bentonville defender miss at one point. He also finished with 58 yards on five catches and the touchdown with 21 seconds left that sent the game to overtime.

[player_tooltip player_id='1288791' first='Wyatt' last='Fitzgerald'] - Senior Quarterback - Oklahoma Christian School

There wasn't a more clutch performer in week zero than Oklahoma Christian School senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1288791' first='Wyatt' last='Fitzgerald'] and his late game heroics. The Saints stunned Christian Heritage 19-13 on the final play of the game when he hit his man in the end zone for the score. It was Fitzgerald's third touchdown of the night and he finished with a little over 200 yards passing. Fitzgerald had big shoes to fill at the QB1 spot after Garret Wilson graduated and for him to come out and perform like this in week zero, that's a great thing to see.

[player_tooltip player_id='917665' first='Wyatt' last='Geissler'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Bethany

Bethany would knock off Noble at home on Thursday night and the offense was rolling from start to finish. Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='917665' first='Wyatt' last='Geissler'] would have a strong showing in the win. He finished the night with eight catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns. It was a hat trick night for Geissler as he has gotten off to a fast start in 2024. Geissler was the team's leading receiver a year ago but the week zero performance was his best to date. The 140 yards and three touchdowns were both career highs for a single game.
