The tidal wave of recruiting information and movement that comes with the beginning of the summer camp szn has taken a brief pause, and in the midst of this break, PrepRedzone is your foremost source for the biggest winners and must-know names from the tsunami of recruiting news that has gone down these past few weeks. In this Summer Camp Szn Early Winners series, we'll be highlighting the most notable and important offers, camp performances, and ensuing commitments from the 2028s to the 2025s. First up: the rising freshman. Despite these young bucks lack of high school experience, their talent, potential, and athleticism are beyond that of a normal 13/14 year old, resulting in a significantly early recruiting genesis and the potential of a long and prolific recruiting runway. With so much development and experience left in their high school careers, and FBS and/or P4 offers already their belts, the sky is the limit for these freshman phenoms, and we could be seeing these names near the top of the 2028 classes big board when it's all said and done. WR Logan Thompson went down to Columbia, MO and earned his first offer in front of the SEC Mizzou staff on June 17th, months before he officially started his high school campaign with the Crusaders. Thompson, who ran an 11.3 100M as an 8th grader, as well as a 21'5.25" long jump, has the speed to take the top off the defense, and I like how he changes direction and gets out of his breaks as a route runner, from the limited snaps I could find of him. Thompson also can play CB, showing the physicality and technique to press, and he shows good pace when coming downhill and making 1-on-1 tackles in run support. Obviously a fluid and advanced athlete for his age, coming out of a very fertile recruiting area, and now, Thompson is already a P4 prospect. Should be a huge year for the freshman phenom.

We have a potential national superstar on our hands in Oak Creek's 2028 gunslinger [player_tooltip player_id='998519' first='JJ' last='Chapman']. The Milwaukee-area talent is already a PrepRedzoneNEXT and PrepRedzoneWI Showcase MVP and Top Performer, and we're lucky to already have a couple of exposure points on the young Wisconsinite. Here's what our lead Wisconsin scout Mark Johnson said about Chapman and his performance at April's PRzWI Combine Series Showcase. "JJ is a special prospect. The poise, confidence, and talent he possesses at such a young age is very hard to find. JJ has clearly absorbed his coaching very well. There is no wasted movement from his feet to his hips, shoulders, and hands. The young passer demonstrated great awareness for when to attack with touch and when to attack with velocity. JJ carved up 1 on 1s, hitting receivers in stride, putting the ball where his man could get it without putting it at risk from DBs."

Chapman, obviously an eye-catcher, has been making big waves on the summer camp circuit in June. The rising freshman went into the University of Toledo's camp at the very end of May and earned his first offer from the FBS Rockets' QB coach and Co-OC Robert Weiner, in-person and live. After that, P4 camp offers started to pour in, with Kansas, Iowa State, Minnesota, and Alabama all reaching out. Chapman also went into the Wisconsin Badgers prospect camp in mid-June and performed like the best QB in attendance, impressing the Badgers staff and media in attendance alike. The arm talent and poise this young man possesses at his age is off the charts, and it's safe to say that at least from the Upper Midwest scouts at PRZ, we haven't seen a QB this polished and this young before. You're going to want to remember the name [player_tooltip player_id='998519' first='JJ' last='Chapman'], folks.

Representing a traditional St. Louis powerhouse program in DeSmet Jesuit High School, rising freshman TE Ridge Janes already looks like he's ready-made for the highest levels of college football. Besides the top-notch competition and coaching he'll be exposed to at DeSmet, Janes has college-worthy size as a 13/14 year old at 6'5, 215 lbs., and he reports a 6'8" wingspan and 10.25" hands as well. To sweeten the pot, Janes has a decorated basketball background as well, showing off quickness, instincts, and a clean jump shot on the hardwood. Janes got his recruitment going this May, earning an FBS offer from UNLV on May 11th from the Running Rebels Head Coach Barry Odom. Like many standout football prospects, Janes got his recruitment going in-person at the Lindenwood Mega Camp, earning a Miami (OH) offer for his effort from TE coach Andy Cruse. The route running, quickness at the top of the route, soft hands, ball skills, catch radius, and contested catch ability all showed up well in his 1v1 reps, and he was absolutely dominant against 8th grade competition last fall. Should be a bit of an adjustment to the high school ranks, but in terms of size and pass catching ability, Janes is already far more developed than his peers. Can't wait to see this kid with DeSmet the next four years.

Looks like we have another potential Top 5 national QB out of the Mitten in Donald Tabron II. The 2028 gunslinger is heading to D1 Public School League powerhouse Cass Tech, one of the top high school football programs in the Midwest as well as nationally, and at 6'3, 175 lbs., he's already built to make some serious waves in the high school varsity scene. Tabron II was already a well-known name prior to the Summer Camp SZN's start, earning offers from Kentucky in late May, Marshall this past March, and Maryland way back in October. Tabron II has done a great job of getting himself out there on the unofficial visit and 7v7 scene, allowing coaches to get an initial look at the young signal-caller, and led his middle school squad to an AYF National Championship runner-up finish, but Tabron II really turned up the heat during the summer camp szn. A camp in Happy Valley led to a Penn State offer, and the following week he earned an in-person, heavyweight, eye-catching offer from the Michigan Wolverines after earning QB MVP at their prospect camp in Ann Arbor. Additionally, Central Michigan, Northwood University (his dad's alma mater), Michigan State, and Auburn have all also added their name to the mix, positioning this recruitment to be one of the most prolific in the entire 2028 class. Great frame with a ton of room to fill in, consistent and clean mechanics, timing, accuracy, and a big-time arm that can stretch the field and put the ball on a rope, Tabron II going to be one of the best QBs and overall prospects in the entire 2028 class once it's all said and done. Only the beginning!

Another rising freshman signal-caller from the Mitten, 5'11, 150 lb. Divine Child High School lefty Drew Sheridan went into Kent State's camp in mid-June and earned an in-person, live, and exciting FBS offer from the Golden Flashes and OC/QB coach Mark Carney. Already established on the 7v7 circuit and a busy camper and unofficial visitor, Sheridan is doing a good job getting in front of college coaches early, and will surely continue to garner attention as he attends the talent-factory of Divine Child and starts putting in work at the varsity ranks, whenever that time comes. A good athlete with an arm that pops, especially for his age, Sheridan is accurate to all three levels of the field and consistent in his mechanics. His already-advanced skillset should make some waves in the Divine Child program and QB room early.

A 2028 wideout heading to Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Tyler Trusel already measures in at 6'2, 170 lbs. and holds two FBS offers going into his high school campaign. Central Michigan offered this spring, and the Memphis Tigers added their name to the mix in mid-June. Trusel is smooth and sudden when breaking off his routes, has an excellent frame with length and significant room to fill in, strong hands that can reel in receptions away from his body, and can make catches in traffic. He already looks comfortable and effective against high school, varsity competition, and has the frame, athleticism, and confidence to find success as a freshman against some of the best competition Michigan has to offer. We'll be hearing a ton about Trusel the next few seasons and beyond.

An Indiana boy tearing it up this Summer Camp SZN, 2028 wideout Maddox Weil is heading to the heavyweight IHSAA 6A competitor Carroll High School, located in Fort Wayne, and he's entering his freshman campaign with a serious list of early college offers. Weil earned Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), and Miami (FL) offers, all in the past month, tearing up the summer camp circuit and benefiting from word-of-mouth compliments from his advanced and explosive game, as well as the legacy of Carroll High School and their lineage of talented high school football players. Not a ton of info available, but from what I can gather, Weil has the speed and twitch to consistently get open and create separation against any and all high school DBs he's faced this summer, as well as surehandedness and athleticism far above your typical rising freshman wideout. Can't wait to get some film on this Hoosier State product soon.

Yet another freshman phenom from the Mitten with the ability to hold down a spot in the upper echelons of the national rankings, not just in the state, 6'1 2028 WR Deandre Bidden is heading into to powerhouse Harper Woods High School with one of the deepest offer lists of any 2028 in America. Earned an in-person camp offer from Alabama on the 10th, and Mississippi State offered on the 8th of June as well. Prior to that, Toledo, Indiana, Auburn, Michigan, and Michigan State offered in May, and I don't see the flood of offers subsiding anytime soon. Reports a 4.5 40 and it looks accurate from the reps I can find, and is a deep threat with unreal bounce and contested catch ability for his age. The size, length, body control, and speed are already a deadly combination against DBs of any and all ages, and this kid is only scratching the surface. This 2028 class in Michigan is looking special, and it's going to be led by Bidden at the top end.

--
